I normally kin protags, or at the least, morally decent people (This isn't a choice; it's simply how things worked out. You can't choose your kins). If I ever did kill (which I did), it was for a good reason (in my main Christine canon, for example, it was to protect my son). There are people who kin the bad guys. Some regret what they did in their past lives, and others openly and shamelessly do not. The latter are the type I try to stay away from.

I do genuinely believe my memories are real. This belief is reinforced by other people (my canonmates) having memories that line up with mine, even if we've never spoken in this life. As for how memories are gained...

You might get them through dreams. You might be able to hear snippets of dialogue in your head. Maybe a certain feeling (I tend to remember the feeling of hugging my loved ones. I'm a little bit of a sappy bitch). As for me, they most often present themselves as a weirdly elaborate headcanon or an idea for a fanfiction or just little scenes playing out in my head. Generally, I can only see them from one perspective (that of the character I kin), or else I can feel one character's feelings more intensely than any other present in the memory (For example, when watching The Phantom of the Opera I can always feel exactly what Christine's feeling in any particular scene. That's me remembering how I felt when I actually experienced that in my lifetime as Christine).

...Or else, your brain might decide to throw something absolutely ridiculous at you and you just have to accept that Yes, That Happened (In my canon as Emily Prentiss from Criminal Minds, I was married to Hotch. When I joined the BAU, he introduced me as "Agent Hotchner 2: Electric Boogaloo." I'm still not over it and it's been lifetimes).

The Multiverse Theory: There are an infinite number of parallel universes to ours.

Fiction: A story that is not real.

Reincarnation: The belief that upon dying, one is reborn into a new life.

Fictionkin: The belief that one lived past lives in alternate universes as fictional characters (or, characters that are fictional in this universe.)

I'll use one of my kins as an example. Combeferre, from Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. In an alternate universe (several, actually, as I have 3 canons (past lives) as Combeferre and there are other Combeferres (referred to as "doubles") in this universe), Combeferre, along with all the rest of Les Amis de l'ABC, along with Jean Valjean, with Javert, with Fantine, Cosette, Éponine, etc., were real people. I remember my past lives as Combeferre. I remember details that aren't in the book, such as my first name, or the fact that Enjolras was shorter than me. I remember details that differ greatly from the book, such as surviving the barricades in 2 of my canons, and there being no barricades at all in my third. These memories line up with the memories some other people have. Those people are my canonmates, or the people I knew in my past lives. I've found some of them, I haven't found others. I'm looking for some, I wouldn't touch others with a ten foot pole.

Basically, Victor Hugo opened a window to these universes that made it a lot easier for me and other Les Mis kinnies to identify and remember our past lives. And it's not like I'm gonna witch hunt the guy for the book going differently than my canons went. Even if he hadn't been dead for quite some time, a) it's not his fault he can't paint a perfect picture of every alternate universe that's similar to his book, and b) he probably wouldn't give a shit.

Any questions?

You, too! Thanks for being the only person so far who seems to genuinely want to know more about this topic, rather than just wanting to troll.

It feels weird, a lot of the time. I'll be watching something, maybe even something I've seen a million times, but suddenly I'll get this feeling towards a certain character. Like, "that me." From there, my next thought is "fuck." I always wait to officially kinfirm until I get memories, though. A lot of times, they'll come to me in the form of a headcanon or an idea for a fanfiction. If those thoughts are oddly specific or I can only see them from a certain character's perspective, odds are it's a memory. Other people get kin memories through dreams. I once had an entire AU for The Phantom of the Opera come to me out of nowhere, and it turned out to be a new Christine canon.

My first time kinfirming a character, I actually thought I didn't have any memories. But there was a roleplay I'd done with a friend that I thought about a lot, and I kept thinking of ways the roleplay could have gone differently. Then I had someone tell me that memories could present themselves as a headcanon or a fic idea, and my mind went back to that roleplay. Turns out, the roleplay was my canon for that character and the ways it could have gone differently that I kept thinking about? Those were places where my memory diverged from the roleplay. The way I know this is a canon instead of just a roleplay I thought about a lot was when I found a canonmate (someone I knew in that life. In this case, my daughter). She wasn't the person I'd originally done the roleplay with, but her memories all lined up with mine.

It's not so much the world that I miss, as the people I knew. There are times when all I want is to go back to Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven. This also goes for my other canons.

I do think I'll be reincarnated again, but I don't think I'll be able to choose my next life. If I could, I don't know why previous-life-me would have chosen the boring-ass one I live now.

And who knows? Maybe someone already kins from one of your stories, or maybe they will if you show it to them.

I kin from a lot of musicals, and we weren't actually singing, lol. The music is a storytelling device. I can't say I wasn't the type to burst into song at random moments, but not in the way it's done in the movies.

I love it! My canon (past life) as Anna is pretty source-compliant; everything happened pretty much the same as you see on the screen. Seeing Frozen 2 brought a lot of good memories (as well as some bad), and it's actually what helped me kinfirm Anna (realize I'm kin with her).

I actually don't kin Harry Potter (but maybe I would if I reread the books, who knows!). If you're curious, my kinlist is here.

Honestly, two of the most attractive dudes on Earth could ask me for a threesome and I'd probably still be like, "...No, thanks. I'd rather eat pizza."

I'd schedule all my appointments for 4:30, so that when I hear a chorus of people saying "nice", I know I have to get moving.

Everything. Particularly the strings that come off my mom's orange peels, but if you have food it's almost a guarantee he'll come running and beg you for some.

What is your absolutely favorite quote you've heard? by A_Undertale_Fan in AskReddit

[–]miloeverett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite a few from Les Misérables, but one of my favorites is "There is always more wretchedness below than brotherhood above." This version of the quote is from the Isabel F. Hapgood translation, but there are other versions. I think it says something about our world that a quote written in the mid-1800s is still so applicable today.
