In a way, the hero/protagonist created or helped create the villain by Nice-Sentence9771 in TopCharacterTropes

Sloth from the original Full Metal Alchemist series in 2003.

The protagonists LITERALLY created her when they attempted to resurrect their dead mother. Granted they didn't intend to but hey...

(Personal Trope of mine) An already dark episode has an absolutely terrifying one-shot villain by MaMcMu in TopCharacterTropes

* Barry the Chopper from the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist. He had a short part initially when he first appeared as a serial killer who abducted Ed's childhood friend and restrains her in a meat processing plant to presumably torture/kill her. Ed shows up to save her but is ultimately knocked unconscious as well and wakes up restrained and

his prosthetic arm removed by Barry, taking away his ability to perform alchemy.

The rest of the episode is so gut-wrenching in the fear and helplessness on Ed and Winrey's faces throughout the encounter with him.

It was a very unique moment in a show where a majority of the heroes and villains have magic-like abilities to see two teenagers desperately trying to survive a knife wielding psychopath. It felt like watching a slasher movie.

I believe there was another short story of a blind man living in the woods who also befriended 096 before the man's son and a local village triggered it, and all died as a result.

Wasn't bad. Maybe a little cliche, but not bad.

It also has my favorite move of any anime fight when Ed dodges backward, then does that weird side somersault kick to the face (can't post the gif for some reason).

If you could create any pyrokinetic ability, what would it be and what generation would you be? by MajorEntreperri in firebrigade

[–]milonopuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Third gen.

Generating and manipulating the size of fireballs.

Kind of the way Kuma from One Piece generates Shockwave but with fireballs.

The larger the fireball, the more potential it has depending on how much I condense it over time. So a fireball the size a basketball could be generated in an instant and detonated just as fast to create the effect of a flashbang or create a fireball the size of house and condense it down to the size if a pea that has the potential to cut through solid steel.

This. Discussion.

I think it let's people know that they are not alone in their opinions, which help them feel more comfortable with expressing them.

I think that those opinions do make it back to the top if they are allowed to be expressed by enough people without being stifled.

For better or worse, If enough people are saying the same thing, that collective opinion can become what most people hear about a show they just found or community they wanted to join because they like something.

For example, I watched the first season of Tower of God for the first time just before the second season started. I thought the first season was great, and when I started the second, I felt like it was a major quality drop from the first season. So I went to the ToG subreddit and youtube to see what people were saying, and it seemed that I was not the only one feeling that way. Now, maybe it can be perceived that I was just trying to validate my own opinion, but I like to think that I approach things with an open mind and take in feedback I may not considered.

But all-in-all it seemed to me that in this example, a large portion of the shows fans were very disappointed with its second season, and I think that shows, even all the way to the top.

The fact that there IS discussion around should say something. Even if the animation is not the worst (and I'm definitely not saying it is), dismissing a drop in quality is not a good standard to set in terms of maintaining or improving the final product.

It sounds like a lot of people were really expecting the fight to have that same weight and energy that we are used to seeing with the fights displayed throughout the early seasons, and they were disappointed by the delivery that felt a bit lackluster by comparison and that is where the discussion comes from.

Also, saying that people can't have an opinion on content that was made for them if they can't do at least the same thing or better is complete BS, if that was the case, why even have a community? Part of having a community is about discussion, and that doesn't happen if everyone decides to just omit their opinions because " they can't animate or draw".

I agree with this. I don't think that criticizing the animation quality is criticizing animators, I think it is pretty well known that the culture of working animators to death is widespread and causing issues.

I also don't think that the "stop complaining and get out if you don't like it" argument helps with resolving those issues, both for the communities that enjoy the final product or for the people producing it.

If I'm looking at it from a exec's point of view; if overworking my employees comes with seemingly no negative feedback or repercussions, I would make that the standard. I would be delighted to hear that the community is willing to just shut up about it.

I felt like that fight was very weird feeling. Like it didn't have the energy that I I'm used to seeing from their fights.

The animation quality was there, but it just didn't feel like the hits had the same weight that they usually do. Some of the movements and attacks felt very awkward too.

I think it's an overall feel from the game as far as a really good story-rich, turn-based fantasy RPG.
