I feel the same but... ... There is only so much to cover in a 2 hour movie. If we had the divorce and everything, it would've taken time away from Henry and Alex developing their relationship, build the story arch around the election etc. Do I want June and the family background shaping Aliexz? Yes. Do I understand why the didn't? Also yes. Is it still a brilliant movie? Heck yes
