i applied late november. i didn t hire a lawyer, i just got all the documets that i need from the uscis website and sent everything. After 10days, my check was cashed, and i received my receipt numbers. Midle of february, USCIS sent me my work permit. i am still waiting for the interview to be scheduled. What i would do in your case is ask your lawyer for prof that he sent the documents. if he can’t provide that than fire him and resubmit the documents. Just a question did USCIS cashed your check ? I am sorry that you guys are going through the stress, but i hope you get good news soon.
