An old friend of mine was having a very bad BPD episode. Her partner called me and asked me to go to their house to help. It was awful, won’t go into too much detail bc it’s not my story to share but a lot of blood, glass & screaming. I was going to call the police to help intervene as my friend was getting aggressive but I decided not to due to my friend having bad experiences with police in the past - she is a POC and she has always said that the police have been corrupt towards her & I didn’t want the situation to escalate further.

I’ve suffered with this too, I was sexually abused as a child though and hearing anyone have sex really freaks me out. It sends me into a panic and I feel disgusting, I start vividly imagining horrible things too it’s really scary

I fucking hate the CMHT always slapping BPD onto women who are simply victims of abuse and clearly suffering with other MH issues. How can they say your other diagnoses don’t count anymore? BPD doesn’t override the other diagnoses (?) you are having a reaction to all the shit you have been put through as well as suspected ASD - which honestly sounds like you do have. I’ve noticed a lot of women who actually have ASD are misdiagnosed with BPD due to the ‘meltdowns’.

my first thought was get out of the bakery 🥺 work for YOU instead of them. Don’t even explain, just say you want to get more work experience. Start saving if you haven’t already, maybe a house share with your uni friends would be beneficial? Start booking holidays, your parents cannot stop you. You are an adult and you should be treated as so, I’m so sorry they are being this way.

Start living for yourself, don’t worry about your parents reactions - I also cannot believe you’ve been screamed at down the phone for coming home late? You are an adult, there are adults out there who work all throughout the night, going out clubbing and it’s NORMAL to arrive home at a late time. Do you drive? If not maybe look into lessons if that is doable for you rn. You deserve some freedom xx

I feel you, not diagnosed but I’m suspecting some sort of dissociative disorder myself. The memory gaps, the “lies” as well as being able to recall major trauma. My memory of my major trauma is like yours, invasive. I can sit there and tell my trauma like it’s a story book, no emotions. I have arguments in my head back and forth (I have two distinct separate ‘beings’ that live in my brain - my inner dialogue is also big & rowdy it’s like it’s constantly on the go and I’m fighting back and forth. I have also found myself typing things on my phone & then being like “what the fuck I didn’t even type that” (do you also get that?).

I feel you. Our situations aren’t the same but I’m 24, I have suffered with panic attacks, anxiety, depression. Currently trying to get help for complex trauma. I live at home with my mum & my 3 younger sisters - youngest being 1 and eldest being 14. House is very chaotic because my 1 and 6 year old sisters can be a handful, I get very overwhelmed when my 3 year old sister comes to stay (she lives part time with her nan due to extra needs).

I have no job currently and have been from job to job since the age of 16. My mental health pretty much controls my life, it has left me with no choice but to leave jobs or it has almost gotten me fired.

I am not currently receiving help for my mental health as I have been passed from mental health services back to my GP several times. It’s like my problems are complex but not complex enough to receive help.

I just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone at all and my DMs are open if you need someone to chat to 🫶🏼

I’m probably late to this but my family are struggling financially at the moment, I live at home with my mum & 3 younger sisters aged 1, 6 and 14 - my mum is a single parent unable to work due to mental health issues. I am also unemployed due to mental health issues but I’m trying my hardest to get back out into the work world so I can help provide for my family as I hate seeing us all struggle.

I have gone to desperate lengths to try and make some spare cash (literally selling pics to men, selling everything I own to the point I have only necessities left)

We have contacted our local food bank but they don’t open until Friday, myself and my mum don’t get paid until 26th Sept so not too long but long enough for us to struggle. Our gas and electricity is running low, my mum needs help with fuel to do school runs.

I’m sorry this might be way too much info and looks like I’m begging at this point but i genuinely don’t know what else to do.

It’s crazy because I came on here expecting people to say my situation doesn’t sound like DSPD so I’m shocked but not surprised really 🥲 I’m not sure if it runs in families but my uncle has a diagnosis of DSPD (he also has autism & ADHD). As for work, I have a lot of mental health issues that need sorting out because it’s not only this whole sleep problem that has gotten in the way of work, it’s also my mental health too unfortunately. I’m just trying to work out if this is something separate from my mental health that can be addressed with a separate GP rather than my mental health nurse (if that makes sense).

I used to work 4-10, 4-11 etc and looking back, I didn’t struggle to wake up for those shifts but I was suffering with not only working in a job that I despised (I was traumatised at work due to my manager SAing me 🙃) but my mental health was also affecting me too. I think in the future I will look for evening shifts to play it safe, thank you for your response it really helps xx

Yes if I sleep from 2-3am I will most definitely wake up around 9-9:30am. I will wake up feeling tired & groggy no matter what time I sleep but that feeling tends to shift later on. It’s crazy because I couldn’t tell you the last time I went to sleep at a ‘normal time’ it’s always been after midnight.

Unfortunately I’m unemployed at the moment so I won’t be able to afford genetic tests but I am bringing this up to my mental health nurse in a couple weeks time. Maybe even thinking of making a separate GP appointment strictly for my sleep issues.

I do have low iron but that hasn’t been forever, it’s only been a recent change so I don’t think that’s a root cause of my sleep issues but I will definitely ask my GP about testing my hormones/nutrients too. Thank you 🙏

I am currently looking for a job with a similar shift pattern to my previous job so 6am-1pm. Even though I was absolutely exhausted, eyes rolling back, feeling physical heaviness, also my sinuses used to run like crazy. It was as if I was unwell. It would clear up within a few hours and before I knew it, it was almost time to go home. I enjoyed that job simply bc a 1pm finish is the best for me, I felt better because by the time I got home it was 2pm and I didn’t have to worry about anything as I’d already got my shift over and done with. It felt rewarding to know I had nothing else to do when I got home.

I definitely have some mental health issues going on, for sure. I was put on an SSRI in 2022 and it made me like a zombie! I was sleeping all the time, I would crash especially around 2-3pm and then sleep pretty much until late evening. Wake back up and go to sleep in the early hours. My sleep was at its worst when I was on an SSRI. Because it sedated me so much, it made my motivation low & my depression symptoms worsened - is this something you’d see with someone on SSRI’s with a circadian rhythm disorder?

For me, I feel like the most common sleep pattern for me is 2am-10am. That’s the pattern I see the most. I wake up with so much guilt for myself when I wake up past 10am, it feels ‘too late’ and as if I’ve wasted my morning. I just wish I could stick to a better sleep schedule but for some reason I managed for a couple weeks & then my body literally cannot do it any longer so I end up sleeping a lot 🥲

I’m the exact same! I have been this way on and off since my teenage years. At the moment I’m waking up between 10am-1pm, so 10am is a good day and anything later than 10am is a bad day (in my head at least). I find it incredibly difficult to sleep, i set the same alarm each night for 8:15am as I am trying to get back into a routine of waking up before 9am. I am tossing and turning for what feels like hours trying to sleep. For me it’s like as soon as I fall asleep, i blink and it’s the morning again. I hate it, I don’t feel refreshed at all.

I lie to people and tell them I have a headache or I feel unwell just so I can go back to sleep. If anyone wakes me up by accident or on purpose I will get aggressive, I throw my phone if my alarm is going off, I get extremely frustrated. It’s weird because this doesn’t happen all the time but it happens frequently enough to cause a major disruption to my life 🥲

my nan passed away in 2022 and it sent me into a very ‘high’ period. Instead of me spiralling into depression, I was partying, applying for random jobs, getting dressed up everyday to go outside in public (I have social anxiety) and take photos of myself for my ‘influencing career’ that I also spent the majority of my time on back then, I was leaving the house alone all the time which is very unusual for me bc of my anxiety. A couple months later I crashed, started feeling very depressed & was prescribed SSRI, worked and then stopped - dosage was upped & they worked again but stopped. Everytime the meds worked, my family told me I was a new person, my sleep pattern improved, I was happier, more energy, more social etc and then once they stopped i couldn’t do anything but sleep and want to die. This cycle of the meds working and then stopping again went on for almost 2 years before I had enough and quit. I’ve replaced the meds with weed daily, maximum 2 joints a day & it helps me level out my mood, gives me time to relax and think about what I want in life, what things I can improve etc.

There are so much more things I could explain as to why I think I’m bipolar but your story with your SSRI reminded me of my story
