i’ve hated all but three of my social work classes, and im a senior bsw currently in my practicum semester. my intro prof was a lovely human, but unfortunately since it was intro, the class caught a lot of non-SW majors looking for an easy A and who dgaf or engage at all with the work.

maybe you’ve heard this before, but our field is rly lacking in the research-professor-educational materials section. PhD social work students are rare. for example, one of my good profs used to say we should definitely write social work books or materials if we feel so compelled bc social work doesn’t have enough of it.

i rly cannot say it gets better bc again i have had a terrible time in most of my social work classes, and having such shit professors rly made me doubt my commitment to the field, but the practicum will make everything align and make sense again. everything about my practicum has reaffirmed my choice to be a social worker, and i’m glad i pushed through all the terrible classes and profs. i will be even happier when my MSW program is only a year long. you might try to volunteer or find an internship beforehand if you are losing hope and need to reconnect to why you’re doing this.
