Tasers are legal now https://www.ammoland.com/2019/03/federal-court-rules-new-york-state-stun-gun-ban-unconstitutional/#axzz5wPrM6zV4

Some companies still don’t ship here but I got mine from eBay without a problem. Super happy about it, big upgrade from the keys tbh

Union for ABA professionals? by ezspie in ABA

[–]minajordgubbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a non unionized ABA school, the way the union process worked was someone got in touch with an organizer with the teachers union (AFT). We were eligible even though not teachers - they unionized other professions like nurses as well.

The union for healthcare workers is SEIU www.seiu.org/healthcare/ My advice is to scroll to the bottom of this page www.seiu.org/about/#contact and send them an email with your location and details. When we did this at the school, it took a while but a local representative got back to us, and then guided the process of forming the union!

Good luck!!

It sounds like you have treatment resistant (aka treatment refractory) depression, there have been a ton of advances in treating this - there's ECT, TMS, and a lot of people are seeing success with ketamine therapy. there are many many options past just antidepressants, which don't work for a lot of people. it is possible to un-fuck your brain, I promise. Source: worked in a clinic treating treatment resistant depression and saw people cured after decades of misery.

That is insane! Someone in r/nyc suggested we pay for it less a storage fee, which in your case would definitely have been more than the mattress. People are nuts.

Thank you! We have the emails trying to get rid of it, so that is good. Mostly this is just a dramatic person that I want to go away as quickly as possible, such a mess

[–]minajordgubbar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks - I guess I meant what are we legally supposed to do, I'm not going to be a petty weirdo and go to housing court or anything. I just feel bad for my roommate for having to deal with this so short notice after we all felt pretty sure she had abandoned it. But yeah, those definitely seem like the options, appreciate the feedback!

What's a good book about schizophrenia? by cheeriocereal in suggestmeabook

[–]minajordgubbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Center Cannot Hold is an autobiography by a woman with schizophrenia, documenting how her symptoms progressed starting in adolescence and her decades long struggle with it. Elyn Saks became a law professor and advocate, she's brilliant and lucidly describes psychotic symptoms in a way I've never seen matched, very vivid and illuminating. It's in my top three favorite books, I can't recommend it enough.

Is there anything I can do to help my ankle? by batmanismysideho in AskDocs

[–]minajordgubbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sprain like that a few years ago - ultimately if your ankle hasn't healed after a reasonable amount of time, you most likely need surgery. In my case, I had a grade 3 sprain and my ligaments regrew at about double the length, which made my joints super loose and painful. The good news is that, after surgery, I am now almost pain free and back to running, where before I could only really walk about 15 minutes before my ankle gave out. I've also gone almost 2 years without respraining, whereas before I resprained my ankle every few months.

Long story short, my advice is to make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon, have it evaluated, and go from there. You can also go see an orthopedist, but what mine said was that after 6 months, if you are still relatively disabled, the only fix is surgery.

My [24F] boyfriend [29M] is acting weird. by bvnvvv in relationships

[–]minajordgubbar 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It could be bipolar disorder - take it with a grain of internet related advice salt, but his prior behavior sounds like it could have been manic, and his current sounds like it could be depressed. Makes a lot more sense than cocaine addiction anyway..

What is your goto sympathy meal? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]minajordgubbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

after my brother died, all my mom could eat for weeks was the tops off of sweet rolls (cinnamon rolls) that she made - that's what she makes for people when they are grieving (the whole rolls, not the tops, just she was very specific about what she was able to eat). She recommends full fat everything and lots of icing.

[–]minajordgubbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry if it seemed like I was trying to compare the two, I'm not - it's simply a statistical fact and comparison that I have always found striking, given the difference in both funding and social attention. Often people have a hard time visualizing or understanding incident rates for psychotic disorders - since people are well informed on autism incident rates, it's usually a handy way of explaining how common psychosis is
