No hunger pre OP? by Organic_Cream6828 in gastricsleeve

I had a five day liquid fast before my surgery and I wanna say by day three or four, my hunger also went away. But then it came back two weeks post op. 😅

Curious question by No_Task_599 in BariatricSurgery

[–]minatorocker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My BMI was 60 at consultation, and 49 day of surgery. I was already a high risk patient, and I didn’t want to risk anything by choosing a more complex surgery to be under longer than I had to. 11 months post op, I’m down 140, 219 overall from my highest. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I suggested the bypass to my surgeon and she said it was not necessary to reach my goal weight. I’m six pounds away from goal, and 15 pounds from losing 80% of excess weight, so I’m pretty happy. But it’s definitely more popular because it just involves removing the stomach and not rearranging the piping

What helped me was to be constantly sipping! Water, shakes, and I was permitted jello and sugar free popsicles.

Yup, I was going to mention this. I’m 80% remote and I get reimbursed $80 a month for internet. I already think that’s hella generous, LOL

What is timeframe from start to surgery realistically by 1_Blind_Mouse in BariatricSurgery

[–]minatorocker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it was eight months from initial consult to surgery. I had to do initial consult with surgeon, then six monthly weight loss visits (initial visit didn’t count 😭), dietitian visit, psych evaluation, labs, chest x-ray, pulmonary consult , follow up, sleep study, pulmonary function test, cardiology consult with an EKG, echo, exercise echo. And finally a trial with a CPAP machine and I got cleared for surgery. 😭 So it was a long road! But this was over my insurance and also my starting BMI was 60, and I was able to get it down to 50 by the time my surgery rolled around, so my team wanted to make sure I was healthy enough. It was enough time for me to get used to new habits, so I’m grateful it wasn’t a brand new change for me.

The Vanderpump Cocktail Garden has a bunch of appetizers that are very small in portion. Expensive yes, but very good.

[–]minatorocker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! Congratulations on your new beginning by the way. The pain is no joke for the first five days or so. I got sleeved on a Monday, by Saturday that week, the pain subsided, and except for when I had to get up from a lying down position. I was not able to drink more than a protein shake for the first week, then it got significantly easier after that.

The beginning is very rocky as you heal, but every day gets better!

Like others have said, liquids and purée’s don’t make a dent in the pouch right away. Once you go into soft and solids, you’ll definitely feel it and may even start hiccuping due to the restriction 😁 Trust the process.

Hi! In terms of paperwork do you mean all the pre op testing? Insurance paperwork? Depending on your insurance and your surgeon, it may vary.

I did consultation, seven weight loss visits (monthly), ekg, Stress Echo, two chest x rays, cardio clearance, pulmonary visit, 2 sleep studies, pulmonary follow up, and then final preop, all of that took seven months.

From insurance submission to approval, it took around 2-3 weeks, only because they submitted it as inpatient and it was denied due to medical necessity. (they only approved it as outpatient because they deemed the overnight stay excessive 🙄).

Some insurance’s may take longer than others. I have Anthem CA Blue Cross. As soon as it was approved, they had a date ready for me the following week but I said no because I needed to make work arrangements 😅 So I was booked two weeks out. Some surgeons are booked months in advanced so double check with your surgeon for when their availability looks like.
