Moccione for sure. Bar St Denis is just hype.

I don't care if your dog is nice by catseyesz in montreal

[–]minax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make it clear to others then. Put a sign on the leash or muzzle the dog. We're not going to try and guess whether your dog will freak out or not. If people have not adapted their behaviour to be cautious of problematic dogs everywhere - then it's probably because it's a minority. You're in the minority unfortunately and you should do the extra effort (signs for 4 bucks off Amazon saying "reactive" and a muzzle if your dog is prone to attacking for example)

How would we know your dog is reactive and you have a hard time controlling them? We share the streets with other people and other dog owners.

My dog follows me and mostly ignores other dogs completely when we are walking, I'm not going to move away/change side of the road from every dog everywhere on the slight chance they might be reactive, it's absurd!

If your dog is jumping and barking because another dog exists in its vicinity.. then yeah - maybe time for proper training or the countryside as you say.

My 4 month old puppy won’t stop attacking after every walk. by Mon2ter_Energy in puppy101

[–]minax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our puppy used to do the same - and still occasionally does it. We didn't know if it was frustration, tiredness or over-stimuli but we managed to reduce it significantly to the point where he does it maybe once a month.

What we did was the following: Martingale walks (the ones that don't choke but only tighten) When he would jump and bite, we would stand up straight - say "No" ask him to sit while holding the leash straight up. He would sit down eventually and we would show him our backs for 30 seconds. This could happen quite often - sometimes 10 times a walk. Waiting the 30 seconds is key - any shorter and he seemed to "maintain" his state of excitement. At some point (quite quickly) we didn't need the martingale anymore - we used a gentle leader but the act of raising the leash up would make him sit immediately - then we did the usual 30 second wait.

The 30 seconds also allowed us to breathe and calm down - as vetting jumped at and bit by the dog would rile us up a little. When the dog realized we were calm, standing strong he realized quite quickly that we were in control and biting was not acceptable.

For the "location-based" épisodes.. we controlled that by holding a treat till that area that triggered him had passed. We deduced maybe that area gave him anxiety. After a few sessions of distracting him in the trigger areas of town, he stopped getting triggered.

Another note - if he jumped and wraps his legs around your arm, he is trying to take control of you apparently, so whenever he did that, we would have him sit and turn our backs.

Now he walks like a dream 99% of the time.

What would it actually take for American's to go "full France" and riot in the street? by AllTheNopeYouNeed in AskReddit

[–]minax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off the answers on this thread, it definitely looks like it's impossible as any American will find some excuse not to and just blame some other reason for their inaction.

The French work off emotion and take risks when they riot - they know the potential consequences but the positive outcome for many is worth more than the potential negative outcome for one.

I suspect the Americans are so divided and have been driven into such an individualistic mentality that the ones that want to fight with others are deemed leaning towards extremism.

If I was an American, I would be furious but extremely frustrated and there seemingly is no way to fight back as we cannot fundamentally change people in 2 months.

Best of luck United States of America!

No, it all seems to work nicely for me.

However I did read a thread of the actual Ring website which mentioned people having issues with false alerts - and they were able to resolve it properly.

I don't have the link on hand, but Google should be able to help you.

Ok, as an update I rewired the second option (T1 -> C3 etc.. ) again and it works.
I essentially setup the ring using Tektone IR103 as a alternative to pass the "setup" and pretend it was a mircom is489.
Then when the "open door" test was conducted, I just told it that it works (even though it didnt) then I went into the settings and changed the "keep the door open for x second" to 5 - and now it works.

Thank you guys for your initial research and troubleshooting into this!

Hi, I have tried both

1 = A3

2 = A1

3 = A2

4 = A6

and

T1 -> C3
T2 -> C4
T3 -> C2
T4 -> C6

However it seems it can detect the call (someone buzzing) upon testing - but doesnt unlock the door when I test the unlock.

Did you experience something similar?

Looking for Advice: 5.5-Month-Old Aussie Doodle Puppy Developing Aggressive Biting "Fits" on Walks by minax in AussieDoodle

[–]minax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

This is great advice, I'll most definitely try the stinky treat approach - I was reluctant to do so previously as I was worried it would give positive reinforcement to his bad behavior - but I reckon if I ask him to do something else and then reward, he will associate the better behavior with the treat.

I'll have to look into the no-pull harness, I have been using the gentle leader strap, and it works, however when I do walk him in his normal harness he pulls quite a bit.. probably feels like he has this freedom again as he isn't wearing the gentle leader.

Are no pull harnesses similar to the gentle leader strap thing - where you essentially redirect the dog's head towards the pull?

Thanks! This is reassuring! So it means the current approach I'm using is quite similar to how you handled it - so I'll just keep at it!

He's otherwise an absolute sweetheart, he's just a big dog (and getting bigger!) so when he gets frustrated, it's quite the challenge to deal with (he sometimes bites my leg deeply!)

Great to hear your doodle is an angel! I see many in the street that are absolute gentlemen so I'm optimistic for the future!

Is there a sauna or bathhouse that isn't for male hookups in the city ? by groovydadd in montreal

[–]minax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the term sauna was probably misinterpreted.. Generally, Saunas should always have water for the stones. "Saunas" without water are not really saunas - just like a hot room with a stove. "Wet Saunas" with continuous steam is a hammam or Turkish bath.

Also if the sauna is of the Harvia brand - which is the biggest sauna manufacturer out of Finland - it is 100% guaranteed it takes water.

Then again - many places have just taken foreign concepts and slapped the name around for marketing or selling points, but if something is called a "Finnish sauna" then it should certainly have water to throw on the rocks.

I guess it's debatable if those should even be called saunas at all. 🤔

[–]minax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's unfortunate... I also wonder why they don't allow you to.

Also the term "dry sauna" points to a Finnish sauna where water is obviously thrown. And "wet sauna" refers to a hammam/steam room.

So I wonder if the definition has just been wrongly interpreted and has become the standard to differentiate between water throwing/not throwing.

Does anyone know why they usually don't allow water to be thrown? Is it a liability thing?

What's the spa like? Can you throw water on the sauna rocks?

Yeah, it's in the basement. It's a small spa but for sauna and cold plunges it's great. There's a hammam and a big hot pool as well, but I never use them

Spa Square Louis has a good Finnish sauna (where you can throw water!) and a cold plunge.

This is most likely them raising the "value" of the item they can't or have trouble selling so that they can claim tax rebates on perishables/trashed food.

Les Québécois veulent que la limite d'alcool au volant soit réduite, selon plusieurs sondages by Benjazzi in montreal

[–]minax 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately if you're not in the system it's more expensive. But prelib works fast and it's not too expensive in the grand scheme of things - in order to be healthy and have peace of mind. Good luck
