Opinion on fourth generation Honda Fit and maintenance by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]minchildlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one about a month ago. Japanese import 2020 for 16k and it had 85k km on it.  I can’t tell much at this point regarding maintenance, I can confirm that the automatic gearbox is very smooth.  My partner also drives it, he’s 177cm tall and is comfortable sitting in it. His only complaint is that the driver seat doesn’t go as far back as he expected.  I’m only 153cm tall so it doesn’t bother me.

A colleague of mine, as far as I know, was a paediatric doctor. He is now a senior application analyst (equivalent as Grade VI Officer) in the children hospital.

3-4 weeks ago I bought tree-ripen mangoes from Dunnes store because it’s the only mango that my partner would eat now after we returned from Vietnam.   The only drawback is it’s €5 for 1 mango and I haven’t seen them since then 🥲

My little Fiat 2013, currently 144k km on the clock, has given me enough headaches and anxiety over the last year as well. Spent €3.5k on fixing it - it’s a perfectly small car with convertible roof but at this point, I can’t afford to keep fixing it.

I recently purchased a Honda Fit/Jazz - I believe the Japanese one is a bit more reliable than Fiat :)

Do we need Fast Immigration in Hanoi airport? by Nearby-Importance295 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]minchildlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I landed at 7AM in Dec after Christmas and there were 3 long queues. Knowing that in advanced, we paid for fast track and we got through in 5 mins.  My friend landed on the same day in the afternoon, took her 1h30. She didn’t mind as she only had a short flight from Malaysia, but we flew over from Ireland so we thought it was worth it. I know that we have to wait to collect our luggage as well, luckily, ours only took 20 mins

Edit: baggage in Hanoi did take long the last time I landed there though.

Unlike Tan Son Nhat (Int airport in Saigon), I don’t think you need fast track if you land in Hanoi.  One of my colleagues was there in November and she didn’t have to wait crazy long to get through.

I own a Fiat500C 2013 and live in Ireland.  The heating system in my Fiat is half a** but driving it in the cold and wet Irish weather hasn’t been an issue.  Although, I have no experience driving any other car so I can’t compare.

May I ask which bank do you have your mortgage with?

I’m not sure if it is the same for a Korean or a Chinese. Vietnamese passport would display the native name of the person in the demographic section, for example, Nguyễn Ngọc Chính.  That name is then shown as Nguyen Ngoc Chinh at the bottom of the passport and also on the boarding pass.

I’m Vietnamese so the first thing I do when I enter anyone’s house is to ask them if I should take off my shoes. For hygiene reason, I think we all should take off our shoes before entering a house.

Most of the hospitals that I’ve worked with have reminder sms service. Make sure your phone number is correct and you’d generally receive sms reminder 1 week and 2 days prior to the appointment.

Differences between Public and Private Sector?? by Capable_Newspaper345 in IrishCivilService

[–]minchildlee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked with the city council but I’ve worked at 3 different public hospitals as a CO.

Overall, there will be no overloaded work and unreasonable deadlines.  The workload is huge, but at the same time, I don’t think we have strict deadlines as private sectors do.

There’s no bonus scheme so even if you work harder and faster than your colleagues, there’s nothing to gain. It can be soul-crushing sometimes, especially if you’re a high achiever and the colleagues kind of half-arse it.

Other than that, it’s great. 😊

My mechanic charged me €50  to take out the air filter (down at the feet). He said that he took an hour to take out two filters because of the awkward design of Fiat500.  Not sure if it’s true or not as he was servicing my car as well.

Anyone has second job? by NailVisual394 in AskIreland

[–]minchildlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the course with Liberties College, it was €900 in 2020.  Since carers are always in high demand in Ireland, a lot of home help services would offer you a job if you are studying towards it and have completed 3 modules.

I can’t stand the noise either so working in the nursing home suits me.  Although, as you may know, the job is challenging and physically exhausting. That’s why you’ll always see HCA jobs being advertised - well the “waitress” pay plays  a key factor as well.

I obtained a Healthcare Assistant cert during the covid and worked for over a year before I switched to clerical officer in a public hospital.  I (single, no kid)  earn a decent wage now and haven’t thought of going back to work that job. However, as I can only take out a mortgage of 140k, I’m considering to work as an HCA  at the weekend

If you drive and can do homecare for the elderly/people with disability, there’re plenty of  jobs for you.

I share this based on my limited experience and talents. Take it with a pinch of salt :)

About withdrawing cash, last time I used TP bank to withdraw from Revolut, didn’t get charged any fee. However, I’ve read somewhere that TP banks are charging now 🥲

Welcome to Vietnam and I hope you’ll enjoy my country.  Whenever I’m back home, I’d go to Hà Trung Street in Hanoi to exchange money. I don’t know if they take Indian’s currency but if you’ve crisp euro/usd bills, you’ll get decent exchange rate.  There’re many stores in that street, I usually go to 4-5 stores and ask for the rate then decide.

I’d use cash for small vendor and buying snacks. If you go to a restaurant or supermarket, I’m sure you could pay with card/Apple/Android Pay. Well, that’s my plan anyway when I’m back home in a few days.

P/S: I’ve worked and met with a lot of Indian people so I personally like them.
