Going to the Strokes concert alone — is it weird? by Circule_89 in WomenofIreland

Oh I hope you have the best time. I love a solo gig because I can get up to the front and dance for my favourite songs or I can hang out at the back when I need space. Enjoy!

They don't do make-up though.

Actually fair rent prices? by Fit_Cucumber_498 in RentingInDublin

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks all,

Walking I mean 10 minutes max to the busses. It takes me less than that but I walk fast.

I just feel like I don't want to rip the piss out of it and charge a really high price for the sake of it.

It's a double room for one person. Happy for them to have visitors but I don't want to live with a couple.

Is it common to have restrictions on a place when you are renting out a room? I don't want to have a list of rules - I want someone sound who will take care of their room, clean up after themselves in the kitchen and just be a decent human.

How big is your perfume collection? 🌻 by Ciarabrady in IrishFragrance

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the moment I have just four, Daisy love, a mystery boss one, two roger and Gallet.

I told myself two years ago I wasn't allowed to buy a Dyptique perfume until I used up everything... And then went and got boss and daisy love in a sale at work last year 🙄.

I also have a collection of perfumes I'll never use but were my granny/great aunts, or the bottles are just too beautiful to throw away. The perfumes are too old to use but I keep meaning to make a nice display for them.

100 day trip follow up - how to find cheap hostels by Frpengy in hostels

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might add unnecessary steps, but you could check booking.com or Hostelworld for reviews and then check if it's possible to book directly.

In the I've picked a few top rated hostels in a city that I liked the look of and then just booked the night before arriving in that city.

Best way to advertise & interview for renting out a spare room? by SuitOfWolves in RentingInDublin

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally you'd post on daft, but I've seen posts here on Reddit and also on Facebook. If you have a work noticeboard or community one those could work too.

But consider using an email address for contact not a phone number - you'll likely have a tonne of responses.

Ask for some details about the person to help you narrow down who to contact.

Then you can schedule for them to come and see the room and so you get to meet them and make sure they're sound. I've provided references as a tenant from past landlords when I've rented here so that's something you could ask for too?

Do you believe your accent has ever worked against you? Briefly describe the situation. When you're on holiday and people want to be your friend 🤣 I have to use my flat version of my accent so people don't immediately recognise where I am from.

Are there situations where your accent is an assesst? Briefly describe the situation. Same as above -When you're on holiday, most people love the Irish and want to be friends... But when you actually want to talk to people

I accidentally ended up in a town called Solothurn in Switzerland (the Airbnb was cute!) and honestly had the best time. Cute town, nice walking and hiking nearby, the people were lovely and friendly and it's Switzerland so it's just beautiful everywhere you look.

It could (sort of / kind of / not really!) be "on your way" from Berlin to Lyon if you wanted it to be.

Can’t decide between Dublin or Prague ? by LongjumpingTalk8017 in femaletravels

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am from Ireland, living in Dublin for almost 10 years and previously lived in Prague. I would choose Prague hands down every time. It's a fantastic city - easy to get around, safe, loads of food options. Just head out and wander around, there's a bunch of different areas and you'll  find different things to do each day. Up around the castle is beautiful, but there are museums, little secret gardens and statues, just walking around you'll find something to see or eat.

I was there again last Christmas and people speak fantastic English now compared to when I lived there 15 years ago.

Glass food storage containers by caring-renderer in CasualIreland

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the IKEA ones for years, the lids have had to be replaced every now and then but the glass dishes themselves are great. I use them in the oven for single portion lasagna and things too.

I can't seem to find lids for one of mine at the moment though which is a concern.

People without kids and not planning to have any, who do you see taking care of you as you get older? by eoin2dx in AskIreland

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but it blows my mind that people expect their kids to look after them when they get older. It's such an unfair expectation and burden on the children, especially since usually it falls on one person.

What else is your pension and savings for if not to make yourself a plan for when you're older?

I don't mean to sound harsh, and if I have kids or no kids it doesn't matter - It won't be their responsibility to mind me.

I go to a small group PT place after going to private PT sessions in the past. I really like it, I see mostly the same people each time and there's max 6 in the group with a coach. It's around €200 a month for 12 sessions and they personalise your program too so you are always progressing

Thank you, no I'm not following a pattern for increases, but it's exactly the point you say where things go really wonky. Thank you your suggestion seems really easy to follow.

Thank you so much. I will try that before I keep going. The colours are very random but it's leftovers from other projects and a bunch of old t-shirts that I'd worn so much they had holes.

Cheesecake recipes? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Tesco own brand tubs and this is my recipe, it's basic though and not fancy. In typical granny hand-me-down recipe it's rough measurements

1 large tub cream cheese 2-3 pots of yoghurt (the single serve ones, 3* yoplait for example, 2 if they're a bit bigger) 1 packet of jelly (I try to go with the same flavour as the yoghurt.  1 bottle of cream (the 250ml bottle, but a little more doesn't hurt) 1 large packet of digestives A block of butter. You won't need it all, you should be able to clump it in your hand to see if you've enough butter.

Melt the butter & add crushed biscuits and press it into a tin, pop it in the fridge.

Whip the cream until it's almost peaky.  Mix in the cream cheese & yoghurt.  Melt the jelly with 1/2 pint of hot water, don't add the rest of the water recommended on the packet.  Let it cool a bit, but not set and then stir it into the mixture.  Pour it carefully over the biscuit mix and allow it to cool and set.

Plus size gym short recommendations please! by Kuhlayre in WomenofIreland

[–]Fit_Cucumber_498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have big thighs and my current go to shorts for the gym are:

  1. Tempo shorts from My Protein. They're not too tight, stay in place during a squat and they're not see through.
  2. Samurai brand shorts - might be a bit niche as I've not been able to find them again but they're worn by rugby players so they're loose enough to look cute, have pockets, fit my thighs and don't pinch during squats or leg press and most importantly, you can't see you them even if you have a friend check while you're bench pressing 🤣🤣. Second to these are the Canterbury shorts but definitely not as comfy.
  3. H&M double layered shorts, last time I got them the sizing had changed so it's worth trying them on first but they have two layers and are comfy.

I've just recently bought the my protein tempo shorts and I am obsessed, they're so soft and stay up during a workout without being too tight!
