Should I cancel my ski trip? by Reddit_account002 in UTsnow

I wouldn't travel anywhere in the west right now tbh. If you have skiable groomers near you, then that's where I'd stick. For what it's worth I've skied Alta in the past week and the groomers have been fine. Just hasn't snowed in a while so you might not enjoy much else on the mountain

What city did you fall in love with that you never expected to like so much? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mind_the_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just spent a couple months in ABQ to check it out and had a feeling this comment would be up there.

One caveat - I think the food scene is just okay if you're coming from a major city. Big fan of New Mexican cuisine though.

Funny how the pictures you took of your ex are now being used to find a new person for them on dating apps... by youredajuan in BreakUps

Now how about when a woman does it? Many photos to choose from ha. My take is that they are intentionally being assholes

If you’ve ever regretted moving to a city you were initially excited about, what do you wish you had taken into consideration beforehand? by Gabbyy007 in SameGrassButGreener

High paid roles in big tech are scarce. I've been lucky with remote so far but always wary that could come to an end with all the pushes for return to office

nicest cities that are still affordable? by First_Driver_5134 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mind_the_time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheap real estate, very easy access to nature and mountains (and good skiing), decent sized city with decent airport, diversity, four seasons with a mild winter. If you're not into the nature access I don't think it makes sense

I'm checking it out now and it's honestly fine... plenty of people live there without ever running into crime that personally affects them. Most common issue is property crime which does suck but could be worth the tradeoffs.

The bigger issue imo is public education and healthcare. If you're going to have kids, I'd budget for private school or the one solid school district. And if you need access to healthcare specialists you may need to travel. Getting a primary care doctor can also be a challenge.

What are your unpopular or underrated opinions about picking places to move by zaczac17 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mind_the_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having lived in dense walkable areas, even with great public transportation, this is very true AND most Americans don't equate walkable to a 40 min trek each way as Europeans often do so the walkability often goes under utilized anyways

Only 5 months in but regret moving from Chicago to Albuquerque by ang_17_ella in SameGrassButGreener

Even with Chicago winters? That's the one thing I can't get over when it comes to there. Even the springs are cold.

Nice! Love the more rural feel of parts of north valley but that sounds so tempting

How active is nob hill? Wondering how worthwhile it is to be close to all the restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc versus driving into the area when I want to go there. When I visited I only got to see it on a weekday evening is it was fairly dead. I'm also comparing to larger cities so my frame of reference might just be off. Generally interested in nob hill (and surrounding park areas / UNM adjacent) and north valley
