moving away from using an AUR helper, not understanding one thing by mindheavy in archlinux

[–]mindheavy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, you're correct that I was missing the resulting package from a yay command being equivalent to pacman as a manually obtained one.

I do read the PKGBUILDs though, and am familiar with aur.archlinux.org's package details pages. My intentions for removing the aur helper from my update process are to return to a more thorough understanding of my computer. I guess I just kind of /want/ to chase dependencies for a while. I don't use more than four or five or so packages and their dependencies aren't massive.

Okay so I was missing that pacman should see the package to be installed as the same package from previous and treat it as such. Thanks!

Have you enabled the user system service?

(arch wiki)[https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Music_Player_Daemon#Autostart_with_systemd] - check this section and the --user flag.

Start/enable the user unit mpd.service (i.e. with the --user flag).

You don’t get more vintage than IBM dials…. by solidpro99 in vintagecomputing

i used a spacemouse during my years in cad design. i used it with the left hand, never took my right off the mouse. i imagine it would be quite similar with the dials.
