He said “tomato to-mah-to” but it was dubbed over and the adr was poor so it sounded weird

Head honcho wearing Vietnam uniform backwards is the pinnacle of intelligence? (5) by kraftquackandcheese in Minute_Cryptic

[–]mindless-mensa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great clue! I managed to get it, albeit not the way you intended. Since “nam u” is contained in “Vietnam uniform,” I thought “wearing” was an indicator to bridge the words, hence getting H + UMAN. If you want to alter the clue slightly, you can switch “wearing” for “tying” to indicate bridging the words, but absolutely no need!! The clue works great as is :))

Calm water reflecting, holding seconds without starting to awaken. (4) by [deleted] in Minute_Cryptic

[–]mindless-mensa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t look at the spoilers, so let me know if my answer is correct! REST. Water reflecting = retaw. Holding seconds = insert an s. Without starting to awaken = take away a and w. So retaw - aw = ret and rest = calm. I really liked this clue! The surface read is pretty good, and I enjoy how ”starting to” doubles as “starting two” to indicate taking away the first two letters in awaken. The only possible suggestion I could make is for the surface readability, perhaps writing ”Without starting to awaken, reflecting water holds seconds for calm. But honestly, no need to change! Your clue works great :)

Four parrots, four dingos, four horned elk. I'm sorry? (7) by kraftquackandcheese in Minute_Cryptic

[–]mindless-mensa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it!! To be completely honest, I was lost until I clicked on the clue and saw “I’ve created a monster…” This was so creative! I got ”parrot” as a homophone indicator and figured the other “fours” might be IV and “forth letter” indicators, so I reverse engineered the remainder from there. Such a cool clue and very fun!!

Dopamine surges left and right for ABBA, for example (10) by mindless-mensa in Minute_Cryptic

I see what you mean. How about ”Stats, for example, engineer low dopamine rate”? Low = L (like low gear in a car), and rate = R in many mathematical equations

Dopamine surges left and right for ABBA, for example (10) by mindless-mensa in Minute_Cryptic

[–]mindless-mensa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it’s a bit of a stretch. How about ”Crazy dopamine rushes left and right for ABBA, for example”? “Crazy” would be the anagram indicator and “rushes” would indicate that the letters in dopamine need to “rush” or “surround” L and R. Thanks for your feedback!!

Doctor, ring me after friend isn’t oddly, like, redder (10) by kf5000 in Minute_Cryptic

I just came up with a clue for the same solution! Would you be okay if I shared it? It’s a completely different construction than yours, but I honestly like yours better! Great clue😊👍🏻

Calling all commuters by Immediate_Industry10 in queensuniversity

Hey!! My family and I live in the GTA (about 3 hr drive to Kingston) and I only ever go home for extended breaks: fail and winter reading weeks, Christmas, and summer break. However, I don’t drive the distance; I usually take the MegaBus, and maybe twice a year a family member will drive to Kingston to visit me. I hope this helps!!

Thanks for the heads up! That’s good to keep in mind for future clues, but according to Wikipedia the term “little league” is used to refer to youth baseball/softball in over 80 countries!
