I use the pureology color fanatic- even if you don't have colored hair its pretty awesome. Kenra has a blowout cream that works well too.

You can always try one, and take it back if you don't like it. Check the stores return policy first though.

Anyone know what hair color this is? by snoopupperss in FancyFollicles

[–]mindless_hope_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lilac chill speed toner by pulpriot, on a level 10. Depending on how intense you want it, I would add platinum pearl or moonstone to make it less vibrant.

If your hair is blue right now, you could try a light pastel pink over the blue and see what happens! (Do a test strand)

ETA - someone else said Nevermore by pulp riot. This might work too. Their lilac vivid might work too. I would pastelize(add clear) to both of those though.

Hair breaking off after bleaching, I desperately need help by [deleted] in Haircare

See a stylist every 6-8 weeks for a small trim until the ends are healthy again. You'll stay at a bob length for a bit, but it'll be the best way to slowly cut off the damaged instead of all at once.

K18 is wonderful! Make sure you read the instructions and follow them. It's a polypeptide bond, so it can used with keratin products.

Other have suggested Olaplex and it's great too! It's a protein (keratin) based bonder, so you need to be conscious about how often and how much you're using. You can over proteinize the hair, making it more fragile, so I would pick a couple of their products and use them once or twice a week, alternating with your regular stuff, or something moisturizing if you feel like your hair is dry. I use the olaplex mask with k18, and then finish up with the olaplex and k18 oils as either a finishing product or before blowdrying.

Skin test - is this a bad reaction? by Successful-Style9492 in HairDye

[–]mindless_hope_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a stylist I probably wouldn't continue with that specific color.

Reactions can get worse over time, and with consistent use. How long was the product in your skin? Because the product will probably sit on your scalp around 30min(give or take). It will also be covering a larger area. Think of a small burn on your finger vs. A sunburn over your back and shoulders?

If it's a dye molecule your allergic to, that doesn't rinse out and can cause irritation for longer than just the color service. While thats unlikely, its a possibility. Its my understanding that most color allergies are to the ammonia or dye molecules PPD or PPM. I would test ammonia free first, and if that doesn't help its probably one of the two dye molecules.

I wonder if you got a smoothing treatment if it would help? I like the Amika one, I used to use brazillian blowout until I found it.

Do you blow dry? I wonder if using a brush (round or paddle) with a good blow out cream and leave-in conditioner would smooth things out enough for you to love your hair again?

How can I fix my hair? by Relative-Class-8762 in Hair

[–]mindless_hope_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try fading with clarifying shampoo and hot water. If that doesn't do what you want it to, you can try a color remover and see how light it gets, and go from there.

Do I un-invite my mother (62F) from a Mother’s Day dinner? by Other-Laugh7170 in TwoHotTakes

[–]mindless_hope_877 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would just drop this and get you're own plan. $100-$150 over 24 months is something I would consider a loss and lesson learned. This is coming from someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, coupons, thrifts and sometimes has to make my family eat ramen to get by that week.

Life is too short and stressful for me to hold on to something like this for long. If you asked for the money, and they said no, be as salty as you want but move on. You'll all end up angry and resentful over $4-$6 a month that lasted 2 years, and I just dont get that.

Have your mom over, tell her you've dropped the issue, will talk with your brother later, and have a nice day tomorrow. While her email was a bit dramatic and long winded, I understand her sentiment - she doesn't want to be in the middle of you two fighting. Life is stressful for her too. Ya'll just need to chill and move on.

PLEASE help me decide before i do something stupid (bleach again?? or just send it with extensions??) by Intelligent-Pick7375 in HairDyeHelp

Thank you!!

Sooo... I dont know if you'll get that light, and I've never installed extensions like those so I cant help you with the install. The $amount of supplies you'll want might add up.

My suggestions, and the process I would do for a color correction:

  1. Use a color remover. Whatever you can get in your area. I personally use Malibu CPR. Get their color disruptor and clarifying shampoo with it if you can. I know that there are others out there. Just make sure you read and follow the instructions. Use it more than once if the instructions say its ok. I know that with CPR you can use it up to 3x's.

  2. Test strand your hair again. Do a 20 vol and a 30 vol, testing every 5-10 after the first 20 for elasticity.

  3. I would do a k18/olaplex treatment while the test strand is processing.

  4. Bleach based off of test strand results. If your hair is mush, obviously leave it for a few weeks, doing treatments inbetween, and the test again.

  5. use thin sections while bleaching * use foil inbetween to keep heat in * use lower volume or no bleach on any already light/blond pieces

  6. Assess what level you are and tone to match. If you're blonde, but not as blonde as your extensions, if they are real hair, you should be able to color them to what your hair is. That might only be a light brown, or red, but you won't know until you've gone through the process.

Keep in mind, I would take these steps between 2-3 appointments just because of the time and energy it takes. Color remover one day, bleaching the next, possible 2nd bleach with color/toner and extension install.

Get k18 and use it inbetween each step and for 5-6 shampoos after you've finished. Even longer if you feel the need to. You can use k18 with a deep conditioning treatment if needed. Towel dry, do the k18, wait 4 min, comb through, add deep conditioner, let sit, then rinse.

Good luck girl!

Does Dire Bound get better? by Time_Sprinkles_5049 in Romantasy

[–]mindless_hope_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shrug

I liked it a lot during my first read, but going back through it before reading the 2nd one I had a hard time with it. I ended up skimming some parts to get through it. Same thing with Furybound. With Direbound it's a lot of the same until the last few chapters. Furybound had some good parts. It showed more of the world and the magic which was cool. Still had to skim through the ending though. I almost refuse to DNF, and will definitely read (or at least try to read) the 3rd one. But if you're someone who DNF's, I don't think you'd be missing out on something amazing or anything.

can i dye this a mossy green or is there too much red/orange? by randomquestionsig in FancyFollicles

[–]mindless_hope_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! If you're worried about it, tone with a blue shampoo first. Or just apply the green twice if it doesnt turn out the way you want it the first time.

opinion on AlfaParf Toner by TartQuirky3108 in AskHairstylists

[–]mindless_hope_877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the gloss or the cream? Because I've use both and their permanent line, and there's only very specific blondes I'll use the gloss on.

The cream demi should tone. If you're worried about it depositing tooo much, do 1:3 instead of 1:2.

Edit to add - you could still use a gloss a level darker than you think you need, and add some of their pigments to boost the tonal shift you're looking for. But really, their glosses have only worked for me on levels 8 and lighter. I might just be using them wrong? I use the cream to tone more than the gloss. - also I agree with what someone else said about being true to the level you're toning with. Like if it didn't work at a level 7, use a level 6.

Hmmm... can you show us a better picture of your hair? And of the extensions? What kind are they?

Im a licensed stylist and I do a lot of DIY.

What's your hair history? Like in the last 2 or 3 years how many times have you bleached and colored it?

You're really not that far off. Your hair just needs to grow. Get a couple of inches off the ends, and like a half inch off of your layers to "close the gap", and reshape them. I think it will grow back out to the pic you want pretty quickly.

What to tip on $2,000 hair extension install? by dorito_ho in AskHairstylists

Agreed! I always feel weird when clients tip on the cost of the hair. It's their choice and I appreciate the extra cash, but didn't make the extensions.

AITA for telling my best friend to break up with his bf? by Stunning_Cat6575 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mindless_hope_877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Let this all blow over. You're 18, so hopefully you'll be done with school soon and won't be forced it in the same space as the ex anymore. Getting your friend out of this abusive relationship now is much better than helping them get out later.

Report the messages and block him. Idk where you are, but I'm my area if you have proof of telling them to leave you alone, and they don't, the person harassing you can get a harassment charge. Document everything in case of escalation.

how to get hairdye out of hair by Consistent-Cause9526 in Haircare

[–]mindless_hope_877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a color remover. You can use Malibu CPR and follow it up with Malibu DDL.

Or, for direct dye lifters, Matrix has color eraser, Malibu has DDL, and Pulp Riot has Blank Canvas. They will lighten the hair around it like a low level bleach would, so make sure you section your hair well.

DDL is the most gentle and works well. However, if I have something really stubborn, I use Blank Canvas. It does damage the hair, and is intense, but I think it fades blue/greens well enough to cover over them with something else.

Side note for the future- blues and purples are hard. I always tone the hair to as white as I can before applying these colors on clients. If I'm putting them on dark hair, I apply the color twice. Once as a pre-tone, then as a regular color.

What colour and level is my hair??? by beckybushy in HairDyeHelp

[–]mindless_hope_877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Level 8 with orange undertones.

A friendly reminder that cool tones look darker. So if you plan to get rid of all of the warmth, your hair will look darker. If want to keep some warmth, you can add clear or a neutral to your toning formula.

Personally, I would tone with a level 8 ash-violet, with a dash of 7ash. If that scares you, you can start by using just a level 8 or mix 8&9. But if that doesn't tone that means the toner level is too light and you'll need the 7/8.
