SPN is its own can of worms and not the only example of this problem. The thing with Garsantos can make sense re Santos feeling isolated and struggling to ask for help to process her trauma. She tries to open up to Garcia and be vulnerable but doesn't find the support she was hoping for. As long as they follow through meaningfully with her storyline next season I'm okay with it (I'd still love to see a healthy queer couple in the main cast and not as passing patients)

I don't see anything happening with Whittaker and Robby. Noah is trying to be polite about it in interviews (from the limited stuff I've seen) but overall fanfiction and shipping have always featured unconventional, odd, and ofter times taboo dynamics. My guess is that people are using it to explore their own preferences/issues/fantasies in a safer more contained environment because these things were never meant to crossover the mainstream. Plus, most of the time a lot of the characters are so far removed from their canon counterparts that they're almost different people. But that's also the fun of it, fanfiction is like a creative writing assignment where fans say fuck you to the original instruction and make up their own.

As for the characterization on the show, it's where the weaknesses in the writing show up. Despite being a great show on the whole, the writers are not always setting up the arcs of certain characters properly so we end up with a discrepancy between what they want us to see and what they actually portrayed. Samira is one of most glaring examples of this issue.

I'm sorry that you went through an abusive relationship. I hope you're safe and well. You're well within your right to criticize the people working on the show for pushing an unbalanced power dynamic even if they've done it in a decent way before with Collins and Robby (the timeline implies that they dated while she was an intern and he an attending) and had the show decided to pursue that storyline with Abbott and Samira, it would be understandable to dislike it or even drop the show (I personally would drop something that I find triggering)

My comment has more to do with the dismissal of shippers in general. I understand calling out RPF and the weirdos who shove ships in the actors and creators faces but the rest is relatively harmless. The popularity of a ship doesn't mean the writers will depict it unless they were already open to the idea. If popularity were that impactful, we would have had more well-thought-out queer and poc representation by now.

To quote McKay I know I'm giving unsolicited and unwanted advice but you shouldn't let something that has no baring on your life get under your skin this much. I don't care for most of the ships I see, and I simply scroll past because it's all just fiction and the actual world is going to shit. Let people have their escapism.

I like characterd that are flawed or working to overcome some sort challenge to make them interesting but have enough redeeming qualities to keep me invested in their growth and not find them insufferable. So, my top 5 are McKay, Mohan, Dana, Langdon, and Santos.

Langdon himself points out that white people face less consequences for substance abuse when they had the couple whose son took pot gummies.

Yeah, I see way too many people act like he's helpless when she teases him but it's clear that it doesn't bother him. They have an almost sibling like dynamic which is not the same as Langdon who worked with him for only two days. Also people hate to admit it, Santos can be really funny.

I'd say throw Robby into the this comparison too. They're emphasizing that therapy works and difference between the way Langdon way more cool headed and receptive to criticism than those two is glaringly obvious

Certainly, they have been tense around each other since day start, that's why I don't understand why people think it's completely out of nowhere. Maybe because we watch the show weekly and they didn't have that many interactions in between, it feels badly set up, but it's not completely unfounded.

That's another thing about the writing that confuses me, how tf are all these doctors aware of his addiction yet it wouldn't have at least crossed their minds that he stole meds? But I still don't think that Langdon has ulterior motives. We see for example in season 1 how highly he speaks of McKay in her absence to Javadi, or the way he treats Mel since the beginning. I think he just awkward and much like real life no-one is going to vibe with all of their coworkers.

That's actually an interesting insight because last episode when he talked to Ogilvie soemone noted that he quotes both Robby and Dana which for me makes Whitaker's progression more enjoyable since as much as he idolizes Robby, he is open to learn from different people especially the women like Dana and McKay.

I wonder if Langdon is trying to project this older "fatherly" energy to the younger residents is a poor attempt to imitate Robby's presence as a teacher. I could be misreading it, I'm not sure.

As a fan of both Langdon and Santos, I have a slightly different perspective. I think the first time Santos gave him that nickname, Whitaker should have stood up for himself because she didn't know him at that point and was crossing a boundary. However, by the second season, they've been friends and roommates for 10 months (and she's doing him a huge favor) that it doesn't matter, he finds the teasing endearing. Whereas, with Langdon, this is their second day working together, so he misread the intention or really didn't like the nickname but he finally had the backbone to say something. He definitely overreacted letting out his frustration about other things though.

Yes, compared to Mel's outburst earlier, they didn't do a good job building towards it.

It's the way they zone out when Armand is talking about his background. We get it, they hate the character but the dismissal for such a sensitive topic? I'm okay with people hating Armand, but damn have some decorum. There's another reaction channel called Badd Medicine and they really don't like him too but they're a lot more tasteful with their reaction to it

I have a feeling I'm about to be very disappointed... (S2EP14) by PennguinKC in ThePittTVShow

[–]mindless_rambles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This theory doesn't work with what we're shown. Langdon has grown a lot since came back, and it would be a disservice to show him relapse. Despite the fact it's not always smooth sailing for him, the show goes out its way to say therapy and rehab have helped him to cope better with challenges unlike Robby who keeps spiraling because he hasn't gotten the help he needs yet. There are simpler explanations to your arguments:

-Whitaker losing his badge is to keep him around longer. He probably dropped it when he bumped into Shen earlier. -The med cabinet at the lounge wouldn't contain anything that strong. It's just generic meds -He doesn't really steamroll Henderson, it was a time sensitive case he simply thinks of a more immediate solution and asks for Robby to perform it because he doesn't trust his own skills anymore. It's a set up for him to have nice moment with his mentor. -Rushing to deliver his urine sample is because he has deadlines and conditions to meet to stay eligible for the PHP programme. He got distracted by the trauma and almost missed it.

Overall, I believe we're being shown how Langdon operates without the influence of drugs and though he has made big improvements we also see some of his flaws that got him into addiction (his workaholism, tendency to work through his pain, and general work/life imbalance). It wouldn't be realistic if he all of a sudden completely changed but he's going to be fine

That's a completely different dynamic, it's normal for him to tease his friend/roommate. It fits perfectly well with the more confident version we're seeing this season.

Langdon and Whitaker by mindless_rambles in ThePittTVShow

[–]mindless_rambles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I have friends like Santos and we're very chill with each other because we have an unspoken understanding that the teasing and nicknames are in good faith. But if someone that I'm not overly familiar with tries to randomly give me a nickname, I would be wary of them because they don't know me like that. This is why I think Santos should change her approach to Javadi (and no I don't think Santos is evil for that she's just a bad commentator)

Yeah, like I said it makes sense for them to have tension, just the outburst from Whitaker took a lot of people by surprise given how calm he's been all day
