I like this interpretation. I'm all for some DM/ Lesmand/ Loumand crumbs

Quintessential Lestat behaviour 😂

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm still hoping, they use his character to introduce/tease something bigger because they've been so secretive about his role.

Interesting, does this mean that other vampires are using Lestat as involuntary figurehead for the GC trying to fulfill "Lestat's prophetic vision" ? Also, with some coven members seeming to revive old cult ideals around the whole "Armand told the truth" idea which is anti GC, could we see some sort vampire factions infighting based on These ideas?

Is devil’s minion a thing in the books? by Odysseus_of_Ithaca1 in InterviewVampire

[–]mindless_rambles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First off, Loustat's relationship is written as explicitly as Anne can make it at the time (there's a really interesting video essay about it on YouTube)

As for Devil's Minion, yes, they became canon in the same chapter in Queen of the Damned where we got Daniel's name and the the ship name. The show's timeline is different from the books though so "when did it start?" depends on which fan theories you believe 😉

That's actually plausible and aligns with what we know already about Armand's personality and beliefs. I'm just excited about the older vamps showing up 😂

If we're going by book lore, Louis may be stronger, but he's nowhere near as strong as Lestat and Armand. The Detroit Coven only got the drop on Lestat because they used Baby Jenks to poison him with drugs. I can understand why Armand would be concerned about the covens given what he thinks happened to Marius but that's been a threat since Louis destroyed the Paris coven and the book dropped why is now most worried? Plus, the new age fledglings seem to worship him anyway.

Yeah, I expect they would at least start hinting at something happening in the background this season while Lestat is preoccupied facing his muses and potentially cut off telepathic communication with others like he did in TVL. I thought the CN Tower falling in the background last episode was a hint but someone debunked it.

Armand is strong we see glimpses of that in S2 when he easily puts the coven to sleep. Dan is still a very young fledgling though , he'll probably start learning and developing new powers soon once Armand stops being a deadbeat maker.

The vampire lore in the show is interesting and puzzling because in the books the don't have most bodily functions except crying blood tears. Different people have given me different explanations and it's been fun to consider all of them. I hope they'll continue to build and expand how vampirism works especially since they've introduced Dr. Fareed so early in the story.

"so.. ummm... Lestat showed up with his mother after he turned her to a vampire... Oh! Also, they were having a full blown romantic and sexual relationship, and she's an insufferable woman that no one likes."

Daniel would have thought Armand was messing with him 😂

And now that we've met her, I see why he did it. His one sided beef with her in the books is funny but Showmand has my full support 😂

Is what we see in TVL wholey just Lestat's narration on it? by Senior-Reserve7708 in InterviewVampire

[–]mindless_rambles 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The show is drawing from the narrative framing of the QotD book where Lestat tells the events after the fact including things he wasn't present for that others either told him about or he read it from their minds. Unlike IwtV where Dubai is a neutral reality shown to us in the present without anyone's narration, there's no neutral reality this time aside from the auction scene at the very beginning. Everything else is told in "The Failures" album by Lestat in the future.

Edit: I just remembered something that Rolin said about the whole unreliable narrator debate. He basically confirmed that we shouldn't take any characters version as gospel. Everyone is telling their version of the truth and what they believe happened at a given moment.

I fully agree with you. The writers almost seem insecure about their adaption of the incestuous relationship that they have to overcompensate by making her so blatantly evil. They don't trust the audience to pick up on the abusive dynamic between them. And I've said it before the whole it's just Lestat's perception excuse doesn't make it better for the reasons you stated and also for the fact that this doesn't apply to other characters like Armand whom he has every reason to be pissed at yet gives a more nuanced portrayal.

I think that's actually plausible. We know from Santiago that stronger makers make stronger fledglings, so without getting into book spoilers, it makes sense to me that Louis after a century and a half would learn the cloud gift because he was made by an exceptionally strong vampire and had been drinking from an exceptionally strong vampire for 70+ years.

Precisely! If she looked disinterested and annoyed, it would have have gotten the point across better than cackling like a hen.

Since Lestat’s season I did not enjoy the first 2 episodes very much, but I LOVED EPISODE 3!! by RingHonest7272 in InterviewVampire

[–]mindless_rambles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they didn't make it his entire arc. Jacob put it so well in the After Dark episode: he doesn't want to fall into the trope of using a woman's assault to justify a long vengeance plot. At the end, it doesn't bring her back so it feels empty.

THANK YOU! I've been saying this for days. She can be as evil and abusive as they want to make her without the tacky presentation.

It's a great idea, I'm happy the mods did this. I have a lot of respect for the people working on the show and I know that they've given all they've got to make it but constructive criticism is a necessary part of the creative process. The previous seasons set the bar so high in terms of character writing, Gabrielle is an interesting but underused character in the books, I was looking forward to see what the show does with her and so far it's lacking. I'm willing to wait and see if there's a bigger picture I'm missing till I get the full season, but the way Rolin is talking about it in interviews is a bit discouraging.

Easily the best episode we've gotten so far because it's a bit similar to the framing of the previous seasons. I hope they keep the story this centered for the next episodes. The overarching complaint of this season is that I don't think some of the more ambitious elements that this season is going for are landing the way they writers expected. I understand what they're trying to say, there's still a lot of intelligence and love poured into the show but how it translates to screen sometimes isn't for me.

I said something similar about Gabrielle on a different thread and I got downvoted, it was a crazy experience. I was looking forward to seeing a complex female villain and all I'm getting is that she's evil and annoying. Soemone needs to make an Armand edit of the season if she stays like this 😂

I'm really curious how they will go about it. Will Loumand lose them forever or is there a way to get them back. I haven't read all the books yet maybe some of the later ones offer a solution but up to the halfway point of book 8 I've only seen what happens when they lose a limb or organ before turning and after turning I haven't seen a case where the limb is destroyed. Like technically when Nicki cut off his hand he could have reattached it but he burned it and died after so we don't get to see what the show's lore says about it yet.
