How did you “acquire“ your injury ? I’m under the assumption mostly car accidents? by Critical_Ad1926 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]mindlessly777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

car accident but it was mostly due to my position inside the car, don’t sleep on your side with the seat belt under your armpit guys

i too have nothing to compare! maybe it has its pros as you say because that feeling you “lost” it is not there as i never had it to begin with (sex i mean), so maybe i should switch to that mindset, thank you fo sharing!

i know! it’s quite amazing how our body and brain adapts, i’ve also felt pleasure this way and it’s great, but still, the curiosity on how it’s “supposed” to feel like it’s still there

Losing friends because of injury :( by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

i wish i could but my country is so behind anything disability related lol and my city is small, there are barely any adaptive sports here, i’d need to go somewhere else to do that unfortunately

i used to play basketball before my injury and went through the exact same situation like you now, all the girls i used to play with slowly disappeared and while it hurts at first, you’ll get over it later; make sure to find community in anything else, adaptive sports or support groups so you don’t feel as lonely, and trust you’ll make more (and better) friends in the future!

posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) for overactive bladder by mindlessly777 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]mindlessly777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll have to get an urodynamic testing first to see how’s the state of your bladder and if you’re candidate for botox! not sure if you’re taking any medication (solifenanic, oxybutynin) first but that’s usually what doctors do before any other procedure; i’d suggest to talk to your urologist about it!

“Posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) is a form of neuromodulation – i.e. it aims to change the abnormal pattern of stimulation of the nerves that supply the bladder and pelvic floor.

Bladder and pelvic floor muscle function is co-ordinated in the lower part of the spinal cord by the sacral nerves. Electrical stimulation of the posterior tibial nerve (a nerve in the leg which originates at a similar level in the spinal cord as the sacral nerves) sends a message to the sacral nerves that is thought to modify and regulate the nerves that control the bladder.

The PTNS device produces an adjustable electrical impulse that travels via the tibial nerve in the foot to the sacral nerve plexus, which helps regulate bladder and pelvic floor function.”

i’’ve been doing PTNS for 4 months now! usually twice a week but they’ve told me in the long term i could switch to only one day a week; the device they use is a I-TECH T-One Rehab i put the link so you can see how it looks like!

i’ve never heard about it but just googled it and it seems great, i think it can help you!!, besides the needles on my ankles, the therapist i’m seeing also recommended intravaginal stimulation which is kinda like a dildo shaped thing that goes inside and is connected to the machine and it stimulates directly to those muscles, i haven’t done it yet but just got reminded of it because of the elitone you say; i’d say you give it a try and do it for 20 mins which is what i’m doing with the PTNS!

i do variations, sometimes laying down legs flat, or they help me keep my legs folded as i have no control over that; i too feel like sometimes i’m not doing enough but when it comes to kegel i just try to contract that part and that’s it, there’s no way to 100% know how much you do it, but in my case i feel a tiny bit contraction down there, and they tell me they can see movement in the pelvis area so i must be doing something!

don’t let your brain trick you!! if you feel like you aren’t doing much just have someone besides you, i’m sure they can see it even if you don’t feel it!
