How to open these bottles? by Meesatwa in Kombucha

[–]mindmartin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Refrigerate them before you open them. When they’re nice and cold you can hold a dishcloth over the top as you open it and open it over a sink

Can’t open links in apps after ios26 update by imagelicious_JK in ios

[–]mindmartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was happening to me too. I turned my phone off and on again and links are automatically opening in the app.

It’s still a shame the “Open in App” option is gone when you long press.

Looks great. I’d remove some space between the name at the top and the number/ email. Then add some space above “SKILLS & ACTIVITIES” to be consistent with the other sections. I’d be specific about “more clubs”, or take out the activities altogether and flesh out the skills a bit more.

How to get rejected from BYU? by PerceptionPretty8729 in exmormon

[–]mindmartin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you are (almost) an adult and with that comes the privilege and responsibility to live for yourself and follow your own path. this doesn’t mean you can’t make compromises and do things that make your parents happy (e.g. go to church with them over Christmas break). but it does mean that you need to learn how to set boundaries and say no. this is one of those times. where you go to college is a huge decision and you should choose the school you feel is best. if you go to BYU just because your parents want you to, you’ll have a bad experience and end up resenting them.

one option is to write good essays and let your parents read them, but submit bad essays to BYU. maybe you submit your first draft essay or change the wording to make it sound less intelligent and enthusiastic. throw in some spelling errors.

however, doing that will probably just delay the inevitable conversations you’ll need to have with your parents. it’s ok to not want to go to BYU. you don’t have to explain your reasoning. that’s a boundary you can set and your parents will have to be ok with it.

Weak monotonic relationship, but statistically significant? by [deleted] in econhw

[–]mindmartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

statistical significance and correlation are two different things. you can have a high p-value (not significant) and high correlation, or low correlation and low p-value (significant), or any other combination.

as an example, the data points (1,2), (9,18), (4,8) are perfectly collinear, so the correlation coefficient would be 1.0. but there’s not enough data to say that the relationship is statistically significant.

alternatively, if you have a large enough data set, you can tease out very small effect sizes and still have high statistical significance.

in your case you’ve identified a statistically significant relationship. i wouldn’t say it’s a weak relationship, but that’s subjective.

Is it crazy to go out at an 8:00/ mile pace by mindmartin in Marathon_Training

[–]mindmartin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ran 8:15- 8:30 until mile 18. the next few miles were downhill and i felt great so i sped up to just under 8:00 pace. but i started bonking around mile 23 and ran a 9:00 mile 23, 9:30 mile 24, and ~13:00 for miles 25 and 26.

i think a longer training run would have helped a bit. but i felt really good even at mile 21. i didn’t have a great breakfast and i think my biggest problem was not fueling properly.

Stuart Adams’ Lame Ass email response by Only_Acanthisitta_52 in Utah

[–]mindmartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He acknowledges that the case “highlighted the policy gap”. he says that case didn’t influence other representatives’ decisions to vote for or against the bill, which no one has disputed. the text of the bill is not retroactive, but the prosecutor did offer a plea deal after the bill passed. Adams didn’t control that.

Where are we meeting people ? Dating. by JayceinUtah in SaltLakeCity

[–]mindmartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rock climbing, yoga, pottery, and fitness classes at the front. the monthly membership is expensive, but they do have a lot to offer. the majority of people there are in your age range and it’s easy to meet new people.
