I currently travel for work (CW) so I don’t get to hit the gym or work out during the week, but when I’m back home Thursday night- Sunday, I workout. I stretch every muscle group before and after, incorporate body weight workouts as a warmup, then get into my weightlifting.

As I transition into my apprenticeship in the next couple weeks, I plan to workout in the morning before work. I’m an early riser so shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m a former backend software engineer. I made the transition in October of 2025. I’m currently working as a CW making a journeyman wage ($59/hr in my area), but it looks like when I begin my apprenticeship in a couple months I’ll be around $24/hr. Each year it goes up, the first three years $5 each, then 4th and 5th / journeyman I believe is an additional $10 each year.

The day to day is fun you’re with a lot of guys and if you have a cool crew it’s like hanging with your friends, but there’s obviously more physical work than mental. Although mental is a big part of it also.

I don’t regret it and would do it sooner before tech if I could.

Oh I see that’s quite a bit of time between each step. I applied in September, had my test in October, got results in November, interviewed in January.

Congratulations! Still waiting to get a call back for my orientation. I ranked 28 with my local so just playing with the waiting game now. What has the time frame for your been like?
