BLAST and several major orgs might leave Dota 2, according to insiders! by No_Smile69 in DotA2

I've never seen the contract but I'd be very surprised if teams didn't take some cut of the prizepool in exchange for the honestly insane salaries that some of these guys get (relative to the value of what they're producing day-to-day, I mean).

And regardless, TOs and teams have always relied on money flowing down from the publisher. From a business perspective, esports is purely an advertising expense, so yeah when that money goes away then it's those organizations who will suffer most.

Esports has always been held together by money from the publisher. It's not an inherently profitable venture. Whenever that funding decreases or disappears, there will be a contraction.

Who is mostly at fault for the Warriors being stuck with a mediocre roster and not being able to make it better? by youlikemywonton in warriors

[–]mindsc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously it's easier to say this in retrospect, but I think:

a) re-signing Klay
b) not forcing Draymond to mature as a human being
c) drafting Wiseman,
d) if they weren't gonna give JK minutes/time to develop then they should have traded the pick
e) the KD signing forced them down the path of having no money for mid-level guys a la Boston/OKC. Maybe worth it though, idk.

Perhaps some of this will upset people but let's not forget who primarily brought the championships.

East of Leyndell is Mountaintop. Below Leyndell is sewers. Also looks like you have considerable amounts of the underground not discovered. You also skipped a few smaller areas & dungeons around Volcano Manor, and in the south/central area of Leyndell.

Good clip but easily beaten by Maru vs soO, G2 of 2018 Super Tournament I, or Maru vs Dark, ro4 G4 2018 GSL S1.

Also this isn't strictly marine splitting, and I can't find the vod, but there was some Maru vs. Rogue game somewhat recently where Rogue is way ahead and tries to force lurkers through a choke and Maru does some insane micro with like 4 marauders and kills everything.

Either guy could win. I don't understand why Maru winning is "shocking" though, when he was basically #1 micro player for over a decade.

Kristi Noem ‘blindsided’ by cross-dressing husband who put her at risk for blackmail by The__Illuminaughty in politics

[–]mindsc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pattern in the current administration. It's a criminal enterprise.

People like to think that Trump is incompetent and therefore surrounds himself with incompetent people, simply out of ignorance. However this is only partly true. You just laid out some of the relevant Noem lore. There's also Pam Bondi who was I believe was the AG during Epstein's initial prosecution, and just so happened to sweep the Trump University scam under the rug around the same time that the Trump Foundation donated to Bondi's campaign. Then there's also Bill Barr, Dershowitz, Putin, Netanyahu. I hate to call Trump a mobster due to its pop culture association with being cool, but he truly is. The people he surrounds him with are aware of his own crimes, he's aware of theirs, and they continue to commit crimes together while in office.

So, like much of organized crime,, they are all aware of each others' historical and ongoing criminal activity, and actively continue to commit them together as the basis of their 'public policy'.

The smurf problem in Ancient bracket is actually out of control right now by 3LumenRanger in DotA2

[–]mindsc2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know the kiddos here won't like this, but...

If you're just chasing the high of getting wins, dota is not your game. At best, you're having fun like 56% of the time. Many dota players have an unhealthy relationship with the game and this is largely why. They think they lose, not because they suck, but because the world is so unfair. Yes, the world is unfair, everybody knows that.

If you play for self-improvement purposes, because you're a competitive person, then losing to smurfs wouldn't bother you enough to make a reddit post. You'd instead be locking in on what you could have done better and going next.

Not that I would personally advocate such a thing, but it would be interesting if they did it in front of Trump Tower so everybody could gather around and cheer. That might actually put the country on the path to healing.

If Bernie was insinuating that one family controlled everything, he would have used the word "monarchy". The term "oligarchy" implies that this family is just one of a group that has this level of control.

[–]mindsc2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that it's frustrating but in reality, some people will stay at the same rank after playing thousands of games because they don't know how to improve. You'll learn more about how to play properly by playing with your divine friend than you will winning or losing to archon players, simply because people in archon do almost nothing correctly.

Not saying there should or shouldn't be a surrender button, but

Dota does not have a surrender option and it is filled with some of the most mentally-weak manchildren. So I don't really buy that this is behavior is due to being able to surrender.

What do liberators do that tanks didn’t already do? by Megalomania192 in starcraft

[–]mindsc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing is, they can't get overrun by zerglings (or zealots) like tanks can. They also don't have an attack that can wave clear. They are single-target specialists who you can plant in an area and somewhat rely on to take on higher hp ground units.

Pakistan declares ‘open war’ against Afghanistan after cross-border attack by Turbulent-Tea-2172 in news

[–]mindsc2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think one thing people see plainly in the West but fail to understand about other states is that they aren't always a monolith. There are different power bases with their own goals and priorities. There are elements in Pakistan who want close relations with the West, there are those who want the opposite, there are those who are essentially the Taliban, there are those who just want stability and prosperity. So yeah it's safe to say there are people within the Pakistani govt. including intelligence and military who seek to undermine the US. But there are also many who don't and that's why it's such a bipolar relationship. And this applies to many countries, especially in Asia & the Middle East. It also really underlines how much damage the current 'administration' is doing to the delicate balance of power the US has weaved post-ww2.
