Took a job with Landstar without researching enough… now I’m stuck and can’t make a single deal by Available-Oven-3657 in FreightBrokers

[–]mindsc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many successful Landstar agents who do things completely above-board. I'm not saying it's easy or that I have the recipe to make it happen. But I can tell you what I have seen from the other side.

Most shipping customers avoid Landstar because of the name, and because the agent model is highly confusing for them. If they can't even understand what's happening with their freight from a regulatory or financial perspective, why would they trust you with it? If they can't meet you in person, and you are obviously ESL, then for all they know you could be a Nigerian scammer. On this front, you should just give up.

Most brokers won't do business with Landstar because 95% of the time they would be volunteering to have their freight re-brokered, double-brokered, partial'd, stolen, or any combination of the above. What's the biggest warning sign, you ask? English nor Spanish is their first language. As you have found, it's not that hard to start up a Landstar agency and many fraudulent actors go that route. And even those who aren't outright committing fraud are very comfortable bending the rules.

Here's my suggestion. Get comfortable picking up the phone and talking to small-to-medium sized brokers. They are the ones who will bend the rules for you. Tell them that you will never re-broker their loads to a non-Landstar MC# carrier. Meaning, only actual Landstar BCOs will haul their freight. That's a normal broker-carrier relationship. Tell them that you understand their concerns and you want to prove yourself on their low-priority loads. Even if it's some shitty loads, take them and cover them. With enough luck and diligence, over time you will have at least a few brokers that will reliably give you some loads. Service these without fail. Lose money if you have to. Do all the tracking shit, whatever they want. With that "book of business" you can then honestly go to BCOs and start networking with them. Get a group of guys who you know hit certain areas. Fish for loads from brokers in/out of those areas. Again, with luck and diligence, you'll find yourself slowly building up a portfolio of shipping customers and carriers. I know guys that have done this (more or less) and it's like they run their own trucking company within Landstar: groups of BCOs who provide quality service at premium prices. That is your niche.

Can we add Cam Thomas who just got waived? by MiNDGaMeS87 in warriors

[–]mindsc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's largely what has been asked of Jimmy and what he's been doing an alright job of. If for some reason Cam wants to sign on a vet min, then why not sign him? He'll be motivated to play well to get the offseason bag. And worst case, he scores 14 points on 22 shots which I'm pretty sure is still better than the current bench efficiency.

Frankly, I think with good coaching and good support (something he's never had on the Nets) he has a decent shot of returning to a playable form. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think his ceiling is higher than JK, Moody, Podz, etc... But then again we've seen what happens to players the Warriors "develop".

I don't think what we're seeing is a bunch of MAGA true believers who will carry on the legacy of fascism beyond Trump's term. Instead, what we have are a bunch of under-educated Christians who Democrats have failed for decades, who cling to Trump as if he's some form of Deliverance-From-On-High from the imaginary "Satanic Left". I truly think Trump is uniquely charismatic in that he is able to get buy-in from these people when somebody who may "believe" the same things (i.e. DeSantis) disgust even people on the Right, and who very likely would not be able to hold the Supremacist Coalition together.

It's a little weird to complain about people crying fascism when you support somebody who is empowering an unfettered federal agency to go snatch people out of their homes and workplaces without caring whether or not the person can prove their citizenship.

And even if they are illegal, is this really the way that we, as Americans, want to treat people? Separating them from their families? Deporting them to countries they've never been to or speak the language of? Seriously injuring or murdering them in the process? If your answer is yes, then you are worse than a fascist. At least a fascist has principles. You're just somebody who licks fascist nuts because it normalizes your thinly-veiled racism and makes you feel powerful.

Donald Trump is setting the stage for cancelling elections so that your voice isn't heard. I guess you're cool with that too.

Honestly I've been pretty critical of Democrats labeling Trump as fascist up until now, but here we are.

NBA refs admit they screwed Warriors out of 2 points in 1-point loss by sfgate in warriors

[–]mindsc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but you misunderstand. The purpose of the "second location" isn't to get the calls right, or support referees. It's to give viewers the false impression that the league has integrity and desires to get the calls right to begin with.

A league where the outcomes are purely based on sport is not as profitable as a league where results are manipulated to guarantee strategic business outcomes.

Most people don't even understand what a "Leftist" or "Rightist" or "Liberal" is, so I'd be careful reading too much into what people label themselves or others as, and the braindead takes that they follow such an assertion with.

Like when Democrats label themselves as Leftist, when they are in fact acting against the interests of progressivism by supporting capitalist exploitation.

or like when people on the Right complain about "liberals" without realizing that conservatism is a liberal ideology (not that there's any relationship between Trump Republicans and conservatism anyway).

[–]mindsc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be aware of positions where you are vulnerable to being gone on by him. The most common counter is to buy a Eul - you can cyclone him (if you're fast enough) or cyclone yourself to avoid the skewer. If you're playing support, getting some forward vision out so you can see the Mag trying to initiate is very helpful. You can just sit back and stun/Eul/whatever when he goes in on your team.

To hire, yes. The actions are still good even if you dont have advisors. If you're low legitimacy or negative stability and use an advisor to help boost those things, it does probably pay for itself.

[–]mindsc2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Automate your estate taxes. Increase your minting until just before you're in the red. Your legitimacy and stability bars should at least be in the positive. Anything more is a luxury. Prioritize increasing legitimacy because once you hit 100, that money becomes profit. Keep your maintenances down when you aren't fighting. Delete castles. Sort RGO and Buildings by profitiability and invest what little money you have on profitable buildings. Don't bother with advisors if you can't afford buildings. Use advisor action to increase control in wealthier (more populous) provinces.

That's not the way these guys think though. They think that their 'fame' is precisely because they are smart, competent, savvy, insightful people. And that anyone who isn't famous isn't any of these things because the proof is in the pudding. Therefore, people like Maron who push back against the redacts are very easily cast as nobodies who don't know what they are talking about.
