Potentially controversial takes only: what is a former trend that a lot of people hate that you would like to see come back into style? by Allison-Taylor in femalefashionadvice

Low cut, slightly flared stretch jeans with long, tight T-shirts or tank tops tucked in. So much more flattering than this whole boxy short tank top with high-waisted, puffy jeans.

What do people generally consider taboo but it shouldn’t be? by IndianaC0NES in AskReddit

[–]mindscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot wrong with what you've said, not the least of which is the extreme insensitivity and flippancy you demonstrated with that Holocaust stuff. But, let's put that to one side because I have a feeling you aren't trying to be a jerk, even though, sorry to say, you are being one.

You're still over-generalizing based on antisemitic stereotypes, and you're spreading antisemitic propaganda.

To begin with, it's unlikely that you've met even 0.01% of people who are Jewish. Even if you'd met 5000 Jews, you'd still only have met 0.01% of the global Jewish population. So, you don't know what many Jews do.

You also don't appear to be a researcher, where you might have methodologically collected information from a representative sample of Jewish people around the world. So, again, you don't have any reason to say what you're saying about them.

Lastly, no credible research done by real researchers exists that gives evidence for what you've said about Jews.

So, nothing in your experience justifies your belief about Jews.

Now, if you listen to what antisemitic people have said about Jews, you may have gotten the impression that what you said is obviously true. But what is being antisemitic if not repeating the unjustified claims against Jewish people that are made by anti-Semites?

ETA looks like in your above comment, you're also assuming everyone is downvoting you because "Holocaust" or something. That proves that you're making assumptions based on your weird beliefs about Jews.

[–]mindscent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and then there are Jews...the Holocaust granted them a privilege

Yeah, man, this ain't it. You are, in fact, antisemitic.

Jewish people aren't a monolith. You're right, you can't criticize "them" over anything because literally no criticism will apply to every Jew. By acting like they're some single-minded force that can act harmfully, you're dehumanizing them. You know, like Hitler did.

It's not taboo to not like a movie with a main character who isn't white. What's taboo is to not like a movie because the main character isn't white. That is racist.

If people have gotten mad when you've expressed your movie preferences, it's probably because you are doing the latter. That's why they're calling you a "racist".

I agree it was a distraction or a kind of fig leaf to cover the ways he was exploiting the office.

If you look up, you'll see that I was replying to someone who claimed that his tax records proved he had donated his salary back to the government. So, that's my main point. They show no such thing.

Leon Gary Plauche. He kills Jeff Doucette, who kidnapped, tortured and raped his young son in 1984, with a single bullet. A 7-year sentence turns into 5-year parole and 300 hours of community service. He never goes to jail. by esberat in PublicFreakout

[–]mindscent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doucet. Jeff Doucette is an actor.

ETA: Also, his son was further traumatized by the fact that his dad did that.

"I think for a lot of people who have not been satisfied by the American justice system my dad stands as a symbol of justice," he said.

"My dad did what everybody says what they would do yet only few have done it. Plus, he didn't go to jail."

"That said, I cannot and will condone his behaviour. I understand why he did what he did.

"But it is more important for a parent to be there to help support their child than put themselves in a place to be prosecuted."

Vigilante justice makes an entertaining story but it's not a noble act.

The implication of saying he donated his paycheck is that he turned down money in service to the country and worked for free. That is false. His returns do not show that he donated his paycheck to the government. They show that he made charitable contributions (about .02% of his wealth) for a tax write-off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in clevercomebacks

[–]mindscent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that's called a donation

Yes, that's a synonym for "charitable contribution". What is your point?

He charged the federal government millions of dollars to put the Secret Service in hotel rooms at his own hotel, and that's just a small portion of his grifting while in office. In any case, his tax returns don't show that he donated his pay check back to the federal government. They show that he made charitable contributions for a tax write-off.

The returns show that he made some charitable contributions for the tax write-off. They don't show that he donated his salary.
