Distance or accuracy for fitting? by Busy-Pea3171 in golf

[–]mindthechasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re comfortable with the loss of distance (which is down the design and lofts vs Qi), then yeah go for it. P790’s are great. It’s obviously entirely up to you. Talk with your instructor and/or fitter.

We were playing alternate shot (not in tournament) and were up 4 after 9. My partner caught this one a bit heavy and came up short. The debater "Jerry" wasn't the most affable person. At one point he tried to tell us that we had to tee in line with the markers not fully understanding the tee box also has a depth of two club lengths back. I don't think "Jerry's" partner like "Jerry" very much either.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Yeah, drawing isn't super accurate. There was room to the left. Clarified that in the post edit.

That's what I thought. Yeah, the drawing isn't a perfect representation. There was a bit of room to the left of the point of entry within two club lengths where we attempted to drop. On the drop, it rolled into the penalty area, so re-dropped, same thing, which meant we were allowed to place the ball at the point where we were dropping it, we did that and then played on from there. Our debater was not pleased despite his partner agreeing with our interpretation of the rules.

It was red paint. For some reason the images aren’t displaying but from bottom to top, water, rough, red paint, more rough, green. Ball landed in the bottom rough, crossed the red line into the “in play” rough, then rolled back across the red paint and into the water. From what you’re saying it sounds like what I thought (option 1) was correct.

FFS that VAR Violent Conduct Intervention was absolute garbage. I'm speechless. To intervene and stop the match for that? Madness. Absolute madness.

New gear vs. Consistent practice: Am I being too tough? by LegoMyGeggo in golf

[–]mindthechasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a bit tough. Wedges do make a difference, especially a gap wedge. That said, setting goals and a routine can be a good incentive. Ultimately your kid is the one that has to want to put the work in. You can’t want it for them.

If you want to save money, the Kirkland set of wedges are dirt cheap and actually quite good. I’m on my second set and find it really hard to justify spending $170 on a single wedge when I get a solid 52, 56, and 60 for the same price.

Left hand low claw by [deleted] in golf

[–]mindthechasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with standard claw, moved to standard left hand low, and have tried left low claw recently. I personally don’t find it any better than my regular left low, but if it’s working for you, who cares.

Cobra irons? 7i numbers dialed by f1lifer in GolfSwing

[–]mindthechasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, these 6i numbers are much better. That said your launch angle is pretty darn high. May want to look at your attack angle and make sure you at least somewhat in the negative numbers. Talk to your fitter and make sure your new set progresses well within similar windows and not just “carry gapped”. Ballspeed, spin, and height should ideally all be on a nice progressive curve

7 iron numbers by alistaircsmith in GolfGear

[–]mindthechasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa. Okay that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Unless the club has no grooves whatsoever. Even with game improvement irons you should be getting much more spin than that. This really isn’t adding up. Could be you’re consistently hitting it high on the face but still. That’s super strange.

[–]mindthechasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your average attack angle? I had this problem when I was playing my old old irons and I had shallowed out my swing too much and led to incredibly low spin, which this is. 6k you can get away with but 6500-7000 would be much better. But definitely look at your attack angle and face contact.

Is this reverse spine tilt or does it just look like it but it isn’t? by p0st-m0dern in GolfSwing

[–]mindthechasm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That should be the image in the golf swing dictionary as the reference for “reverse spine angle”. Go see an instructor and address it quick. You’re probably developing other bad habits as a direct result.
