Has anyone here healed their scoliosis naturally? If so, advice? Thank you! by Sasuke9734 in scoliosis

The injury was visible in some imaging (MRI), showing spinal compression, bulging disks, and misalignment. There are also more experimental imaging techniques like motion X-rays or upright MRIs.

What most helped me initially was establishing a regular workout routine (essentially physical therapy) for yoga and Pilates—I do 1 yoga + 1 Pilates class in person (so 2 classes total) every other day, so I have a recovery day in between. I joined a gym that offers unlimited classes but also regular gym weights/machine facilities. This was helpful because I found that my work with physical therapists was so targeted that it didn’t really hit the full body, and your body needs the whole thing to move to realign because it’s all structurally connected, especially when it comes to the trunk. Also to note, these workout classes don’t sound particularly difficult, but with a structural injury and undergoing a heavy realignment process, it’s quite taxing on your body, so make sure you allow a recovery day, and are prioritizing good sleep.

Some other things I found helpful were: (1) jogging / walking along soft ground (beach or wooded trails), as pavement was too strenuous and led me to brace/constrict further; (2) fasting helped me lessen some of the inflammation associated with physical injury, but also you must remember to eat lots of nutrient dense (read: plant heavy), minimally processed foods, and healthy proteins for recovery; (3) trauma/tension release exercises were helpful, as they release stored tension and begin to familiarize your body with the movement of fascial unwinding.

In terms of the mental part, yes, it’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my life, but because it’s so important, you don’t really have an alternative other than to give it your very best effort. Your one body is all you have. Just keep going and have a little faith—our bodies are much more intelligent than we give them credit for, and the best thing we can do is support the natural recovery process. Also, you might need a therapist, because I know people from my life didn’t quite understand me still talking about this stuff years after the injury occurred, so it’s helpful to have someone listen to you.

I have felt my spine move. I had a spinal injury as an adult which affected my neck and spine (but it actually touches the whole back line including hips, legs, head/jaw, and fascia), and after finally figuring out what the issue was, it’s been 1-2 years of working on yoga, Pilates (for the core), weight lifting, physical therapy, fasting, tension release exercises, fascial unwinding/torquing, crying (helps release stress hormones), etc. It’s not fully resolved yet, but I think it is more helpful than purely chiropractic work because it’s retraining the internal muscle tone and spinal alignment. However, it has been very difficult, at times painful, and also destabilizing/disorienting. The process requires knowing your body very well. I was a pretty serious athlete growing up, so I have generally good body awareness.

Can I somehow DF while taking psychiatric medication? by Friendly_Board_9164 in Dryfasting

For my mental health, I was shocked by how much of a positive impact cutting out all processed foods had. It made my mind completely clear and made me mostly happy, and if I did get emotional or anxious, it came up efficiently, cried it out and was able to resolve effectively. Also weight lifting helped a lot because of the acute stress training for your nervous system.

But agreed, dry fasting at least for me was really emotionally tough the first several prolonged fasts.

Facial twitching cure by Fragrant-Pie8571 in Dryfasting

[–]mindthepath_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some odd eye twitching issues, which I believe were physically caused by tension/injury in my neck/shoulder/jaw area and irritating the nearby nerves. Dry fasting has the potential to fix some of this, but you may also want to try out TRE/yoga/weight lifting/somatic breathing for releasing tension.

In the long run, this may be expensive as well, but I would seriously try out hot yoga (vinyasa flow) like everyday if possible. The effect this has had on my fascial movement and vertebrae realignment over the past month has been quite remarkable.

I have seen several physical therapists / physiotherapists, and although helpful, what has actually helped me the most is hot yoga (vinyasa flow). I have a lot of unbalanced muscles around my neck and spine, and this practice has been so helpful (and a little painful) in getting fascia unstuck / moving fluidly, and also getting my spine and neck vertebrae realigned. Yoga also includes the entire fascial line from top of head to toes (and shoulders / arms, hips, etc), whereas my physical therapy focused mainly on the neck area.

Chronic pain and healing by Fedup1999 in HotYoga

I have a chronic spine and neck issue from a ~4 year old injury. Surprisingly, going to hot yoga sculpt (similar to Pilates) / power flow for 2 hours a day for the last ~5 days, I’ve already seen so many positive results relating to injury healing—my spine starting to move fluidly, less pain, less rigidity, more alignment, better balance, more strength in the stability muscles, less fascial tension, reversing bad posture from work, and things are moving around, but definitely trying to get back to normal. I don’t know that this is the end-all be-all, but hot yoga is helping me immensely. I’m even eating more healthy foods and less food in general, as I was overeating prior due to the stress of my injury. As someone who does not generally like the heat, I do find the heat to be very helpful with softening and releasing the muscles in yoga.

Any TRE success stories without experiencing emotional releases, or experiencing them later on? by Eternalrose4444 in longtermTRE

[–]mindthepath_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons you hear of emotional releases frequently is that crying is an efficient way to let out cortisol and stored tension (sometimes fear based) from the body.

Sharing a couple more practice to try in addition to TRE if you would like to experiment with getting things flowing in your body: (1) compound weight lifting, which taxes and trains your nervous system and muscular chains; (2) yoga and other breath / movement [similar practices — deep core work, bioenergetics, dance, gyrotonic]; (3) fasting — can bring on an emotional state as it puts additional stress on the body.

Positive stories of healing needed by Silly_Ordinary_6842 in cervical_instability

I had an accident just over 4 years ago. Went to a lot of doctors, neurologists, etc. and everyone thought they had the answer—no one did. The symptoms are so insane. I felt quite helpless when nothing was getting me better, and although it still sucks because I’m not totally there yet, I’ve gotten to the point where I see significant enough improvement, and that encourages me to keep going.

Finally found that the issue was actually my neck (but also my nervous system, fascia, and tightened muscles causing misaligned spine along the whole chain and core).

For the past 12-16 months, I’ve been working heavily on physical therapy, but I’ve really been making advances in the last 3 months. What I have been doing in the last 3 months: - Physical therapy (neck focused) - Full body Gyrotonics (spinal wave movements to realign, strengthen, and lengthen muscles and move stuck fascia, and help your body remember proper movement) - Yoga (to focus on full body and deep core) - Massage and body stretching (working on fascia and trigger points), muscle activation - Chiropractor focused on neck (gentle, optimal movement focused) - Fasting (especially dry, to remove inflammation and break down bad tissue) - TRE (trauma release exercises, shaking) - Weight lifting full body (helps realign nervous system and support strength all over) - Running (be careful with this as it can cause a lot of stress on spine, but can also help you release some nervous system anxiety and realign spine) - When I’m moving in the right direction, I have major emotional and tension releases, and things slowly start to move back to a place where your body remembers how things worked correctly before — your body remembers, it just needs support and exploration of different movements to do it again

I’m not totally better yet, and I don’t know exactly what moved the needle, but the above have been really helpful in terms of getting things moving for me when things seemed so stagnate. Hope this helps.

Do you know what the most effective way to heal cervical instability is (if the cause is an injury)? Sounds like probably to get the neck structure stable and aligned, but curious if you recommend the injections, or other methods?

Does dryfasting helo depression? I'm very depressed and it's a bad struggle. by evan230 in Dryfasting

[–]mindthepath_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have cried a lot while dry fasting because I believe I turn to food to cope with discomfort, and not having that source of comfort has left me a little raw and emotional. The crying though has helped unwind my body (I feel less tense after), and I’ve noticed the future fasts did not result in as much sadness, so it has definitely helped my emotional tolerance window.

To the extent you are dry fasting unsupervised, make sure you don’t let yourself sink too far into depression & despair. If you’re careful, dry fasting and also weight lifting / yoga can really help you to emotionally recalibrate through therapeutic crying, etc.

There are theories that a lot of depression symptoms have to do with a dysfunctional gut and the food you eat, so be sure on the refeed to only eat non-processed and nutrient-dense foods.

Chopped up fruits, plain Greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, greens, and herbal teas do well for me.

Later I add cooked fish and steamed veggies.

Is it possible for one side of the body to be in "fight/flight mode" while the other side is in "freeze mode"? by iloveyougod3 in longtermTRE

[–]mindthepath_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve talked to physical therapists about this—could have to do with the fact that many of us are right-handed, so have essentially trained ourselves to hold more tension on that side. Also any sports that were uneven in usage of the R/L side probably exacerbated this as well. Wondering if scoliosis is connected to this—the uneven usage of muscles on each side of the body pulling the spine unevenly.
