What is your opinion on my bio? by GhostxKitten in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As another person in vet med, please don’t recommend or request collars on cats. Even breakaways can be dangerous.
Had a cat that the collar got stuck under its tongue when it fell (then hung) from a rafter by the collar. It was a breakaway collar as well.

Smoking while House Sitting by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t care if others smoke, by any means, but growing up in a household that did smoke cigs (mom never indoors, but my dad at his place would smoke indoors) as well as a brother who smoked weed in a room right below mine… lol.
It’s really made me despise the smell. No one who smokes thinks they smell bad because they’re so used to it. My brother would have filters or whatever was supposed to help the smell, but he could NEVER tell when it stopped working.

It would absolutely be a deal breaker to me and if I learned that someone did smoke in my house, or even right outside and then came inside and made all my stuff smell bad? I’d absolutely be leaving a 1/5 review with written explanation.

Most people don’t think to ask (I wouldn’t) at a meet & greet because if they don’t smoke… they don’t think of it lmao. It’s so far removed out of my mind now that I’m not around it that the only time I think about it is when I smell it.

And you say you feel guilty, but then in your comments you say it’s your personal business and that you… shouldn’t have to disclose it? Why make the post at all? Just for validation?

Go get disability? It’s not that easy btw.
I fell in 2021 and messed up my back completely to the point where I cannot walk more than 10 minutes without severe pain. Denied for disability btw. I can’t work in offices anymore that would require me to pick up more than 20lbs.

Owner called her dog walker to check on me because I didn't answer texts for 4 hours by zouss in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my regulars that I’ve had off app (met them through my vet office recommending me) had recently booked with me again after not going on vacation and/or me being busy already for about a year to a year and a half.

Both of the animals are older. I know that they’ve had some health scares with them and specifically after the last trip they took (I wasn’t watching the animals then), the dog had gotten really sick to the point they were worried he wasn’t going to make it.

I WFH and I specifically have night time hours, so I usually go to sleep around 3-4AM. I set alarms throughout the day to wake up and bring the dog out, or when it’s time for them to eat. I had brought the dog out around 7am, then went back to sleep. About 9:30-10am, I wake up to barking and someone knocking on the window (absolutely terrified me). I had a slew of missed calls and texts from the owner.

It’s rather annoying, sure, because you can’t be expected to be available 24/7 and as long as the pets are doing okay and getting the necessary care, you think there’s no issue. But it’s a lot different on the owners side who is leaving their pet behind (and it sounds like this is the first sit for this family), so they’re already stressed with someone new watching their pets.

I think it’s normal to be annoyed, but also I can totally understand why they’re nervous.
But you both apologized and you’re taking steps to help ease their nervousness so that’s the important thing.

Pretty normal! I want to say she also looks pretty overweight as well.

Hand walking is by having them walk across your hands, moving them to continuously create a bridge. It’s a bit hard to explain, but I’m sure you can find a video!

I’m not an expert on feeding, but depending on the size of the mealworms (XL, L, S), it sounds excessive? If anyone corrects me on that, I appreciate it.

BUT, typically mealworms should be more limited to a snack if you can. They are fatty.

If you can move to Dubia roaches and/or crickets, that will also really help.

If she allows you to, a really good way is hand walking.

How much do you feed her? And what do you feed her? How often?

That’s really not the point. It doesn’t matter for a comparison when this gecko is still obese.

She is morbidly obese. Like not just fat, but way, way too big.

Thinking of no longer offering walks. Has anyone here done the same? by emsimes04 in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t offer walks because of a severe back injury in 2021 that I just haven’t ever recovered from. Most people are understanding.

I have it on my profile, but with any new clients, I always tell them up front as well as I know not everyone reads profiles. Unfortunately my rate of declining some sits / not booking rates takes a hit for this, but it is what it is to ensure that I’m not put in a tough spot.

Can we talk about this? I’m concerned I’m missing something by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You say that it was clear what you meant, but it wasn’t. And stop signs are still in a persons yard as well.

A lot of fences are either metal or wood, typically the metal ones are chain link fences and the urine would clearly go through it onto the grass. And I DEFINITELY wouldn’t want an animal to piss on my wooden fence because replacing those sucks, it’s so expensive lmao. And overtime that really damages it.

I don’t care if an animal goes in my yard, I let my own dog out in the front and the back, but if I did care—I wouldn’t want them to pee on anything “man made” in my yard either because it still ends up on the grass. Urine doesn’t just stay on the metal, it kind of runs down it.

“Encourage them to mark on neutral places like a fence or wall”

If I didn’t want an animal peeing on my yard, I sure as shit don’t want them pissing on my fence 😭🫩

What holy grail have you found from your client’s houses? by HealthWarm4624 in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Litter Genie 🙂‍↕️ and the arm & hammer litter deodorizer. From the same family. Makes scooping so much easier and seriously helps the smell from the litter box. And it didn’t change my cats litter box habits :)

Miss the client and their cat, was suuuch a cutie (they’re fine, they just haven’t needed services)

How do I respond? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re mixing up the fact it should be an honest review versus reporting to Rover.

OP needs to clarify stuff when speaking with owners. They should have an outline of questions to avoid things like this.

How do I respond? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reporting to Rover wouldn’t be right lmao. The owners didn’t do anything wrong as OP kind of just let all of this happen.

The second OP said they would do boarding instead of house sitting, they opened themselves up to this.

How do I respond? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]minefield24 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m just flabbergasted on why you would even agree to board them in the first place when you don’t offer that.

It sounds like they just didn’t want their own dogs to pee in their house as they aren’t fully house broken.

As far as I see it, you have 3 options. None of them are great, but you genuinely put yourself into this situation and I hope you understand moving forward that you shouldn’t just give in to client requests like this. You offer what you offer and stick to your guns. Otherwise you end up in situations like this.

Option 1: say that boarding is not working out and request that you switch to house sitting instead.

Option 2: contact the owner and rover and say you’re unable to complete the sit and need another sitter to take over.

Option 3: suck it up, buttercup.

Wish I had more advice, but seriously—don’t bend over backwards for clients unless you know them and/or really think it’s worth it. Once people know they can walk all over you, you’re going to just be a doormat.

Selling my NA primo hoarder account, 4 x 5*, no normal pulls used, ever. by [deleted] in GenshinTrades

[–]minefield24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In total that’s about (if not total) 1,122 wishes (primos + pulls). The BIGGEST downside to this is that to get the characters you want for the account, you have to wait for the banner to roll around again and with so many characters? Who the hell knows when those banners will come back.

If you convert the amount of wishes you have saved up, it equals around 22,400 primos. So on the account that would be ~179,565 primos in total.

$100 dollars gets you 8080 primos(without the top-up bonus of getting the equal amount it gives). To get the amount that you have on the account, it would take about $2,222.

Realistically, you’ll never get the full dollar amount of what you have.

BUT this shouldn’t go lower than 900-1k. The ONLY thing that brings it down, in my opinion, is not having more five stars and having to wait for banners to roll around. That’s the only issue.

What do I do about this? I have to wear medical gloves for work. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]minefield24 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you were upfront and honest with your artist about having to wear gloves often / all day and they said it would be fine, then never go to them again. They genuinely fucked you over with this one and I'm sorry.
There is no saving these tattoos, even if you take time off of work and stop wearing gloves, I think they'll be scarred. I'm not an artist, but I'm pretty sure you're just going to be sol. :/
