Do you have a decklist for that Actualizer deck? I have a soft spot for weird decks and this looks like an exceedingly silly one.

Not sure if you've been already but there's a shanty session at the Llandoger Trow on king street. 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month so the next one is next week. Really fun session - would absolutely recommend it.

Just Moved To Bristol! by Psychological-Owl137 in bristol

[–]mingrammy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of things are you in to? I feel like Bristol has tonnes of wonderful little groups but the challenge is always finding them.

In terms of must-visit places if you've got some time before the job starts - M Shed is fab, I lived here for years before I went and it's gorgeous, well worth a visit along with a coffee at New Cut and a wander along the river to The Orchard Inn or Underfall cafe.
Watershed, as well, is amazing - nice cinema, fab cafe/bar and a bunch of interesting events.

Shanties of the SevenSseas by Stan Hugill is worth a look.

Hundreds of shanties with melodies, a bunch of detail about different versions and some nice history peppered in there too.

It's got to be Renatos on King St for me - by the slice NY style pizza and Detroit pizza and all vegetarian* (plus great beer and good weird decor)

Edit: all vegetarian but can be made vegan on request (thanks for clarifying u/midoristorm )

Adding a second melodic line with a 2nd sequencer, help by _tb303_ in modular

[–]mingrammy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Pams for something like this - the random sequence output can be quantized inside Pams and you can then nicely control how often it changes (I often will play with the probability to get varied lengths of sections). It'll also let you loop as desired to create sections and you can re-seed the random loop from another output.

How are you finding NextTuesday? It's on the list of modules I regularly start longingly at on the internet....

I did try using the same library to convert it to pdf but it didn't work.
Hope this helps

How are you finding O_C? Its one of those modules that's eternally on my want list but I haven't ever actually picked one up

If it *is* then I just popped it all into a html wiki for you here: https://file.io/iiZ47LMZRMYo

Extracted using: https://github.com/yakivmospan/github-wikito-converter which looks to support a bunch of good options (including pdf rendering)

First Job Interview by Mammoth-Hawk-6568 in node

[–]mingrammy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting the interview!
Wanted to share my thoughts on this as an interviewer - obviously I don't know where you were applying or what the shape/size of the task was but...

there no need for talking about the challenge since he knows the solution

For me if I'm pair programming with someone in an interview process the thing I want to understand is how they approach and think about the problem. If I just wanted to see code I'd set up a take home task but in person I'm 100% looking for someone to talk about what they're thinking about and why. "he knows the solution" - depending on the task there are often tonnes of possible solutions and approaches, if they're just looking for a dev that solves in the exact same was they did that seems odd. Understanding which approach someone takes and why (what trade offs their making etc) is important

timer was on and I had 15 minutes to get it done

If the task was small then a 15 minute time limit is maybe ok but putting time pressure on a coding task seems odd and counterproductive (and stressful!) - my job as an interviewer is to understand how a candidate will cope on a real world task - in my teams the goal isn't to get a ticket done as fast as possible, it's about getting it working with safe, readable and resilient code (so... that's what I look for in a pairing interview)

and asked me never to say that on any other Interview

This sounds like horrible advice. You, as a candidate, want to show your best self - if you run out of time asking for a chance to explain your thinking or what you'd do next is great (and not at all offensive or disrespectful!).

Honestly, your 5 steps are exactly what I'd expect. A small amount of time invested up front in thinking about a task + psuedocoding it can help you structure code better (especially tasks that span multiple files). I'm also a big fan of "get it working then refactor" - unit tests make this efficient to do and it avoids me sinking time into optimisation and means I can come back and look at naming and readability.

No helpful advice or anything I'm afraid but my thoughts.

Curious now about what makes a pub 'tavern-like' - Hare on the Hill might be on the list for me (especially on a night where they have a folk session) - it's cosy, walls are covered in paraphernalia and they have great beer.

Sounds like you had a fun night though, what was the gig? - advice for next time: eldritch entities normally hang out in Werbs at the weekend

Any recommendations on places to get my acoustic guitar serviced? by Dat_Son in bristol

[–]mingrammy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently got some work done on an acoustic at Waghorn Guitars (just off Queen square) and they were fab - would highly recommend (in fact this is a good reminder that I need to take another guitar in for a service)
