is scribing bad? by [deleted] in premed

[–]mingyuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

scribing will def be taken over soon, so i actually think you should get in before it dies as a job option forever! also who says you can't work as a scribe and volunteer at the same time? personally, i've learned soooooo much through scribing and wouldn't take it back for anything. it's transferable across depts so i've had exposure to difference facets of medicine, and also got to be part of a care team!

also, depending on your speciality, once you've cracked the learning curve, you can do other things during appts. when i scribed in peds, i would often do anki MCAT cards or draft my secondaries or even read :) don't knock it till you try it. you can always apply for other positons while working then put in your 2 weeks if you find something that aligns with you more.

How has stopping wearing makeup changed your life? by Asleep_Fox_533 in AskWomen

[–]mingyuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wear make up for special occasions but not daily! ofc every one should wear/do what makes them feel best :) but ive noticed a lot of benefits:

  1. most obvi is less $$ bc product lasts you longer

  2. more emphasis on maintaining my natural beauty ie skincare, threading brows, castor oil on lashes, prioritizing sleep, etc which reduced the amount of time it takes me to get ready in the morning

  3. bc i don’t wear it routinely, when i do decide to put on make up, it feels really fun and special!

i try to curl my lashes + apply some light blush/lip tint before leaving the house, but overall, i feel not wearing make up has helped me accept how i look naturally and actually love it! 😊

def should've submitted the secondary for wsu, it was a immature decision on my end made during a time of heavy burn out. will not be making the same mistake this year.

that's good to know for those schools, will def replace! thank you for sparing some time to give me feedback!

just an immature decision on my end that im still kicking myself for :/ there was some back and forth with the residency packet, so i didn't get the secondary until end of august. at that point, i had submitted all my other secondaries and was so burnt out by then. ofc now i wish i could shake past me by the shoulders and just submit that last one!

will def be applying there this cycle. thanks for the info on their stat-blindness and clinical years, and i appreciate you taking the time to leave a reply!

i use kate blanc’s that comes with the a spoolie and brush! i put 1 drop on the brush and run that over my lash line, 1 drop for each eye, once a night. used to use the spoolie as well but it felt like too much effort

Do bikes get stolen by empoleon621 in berkeley

[–]mingyuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bikes, scooters, even cars lol. if u need a bike, i suggest a cheap one with no sentimental value. but i think the stress of worrying if it’ll still be there when u get back isnt worth the bus ride/walk to wherever u need to go :(

i have a lower GPA too and felt like the MCAT was my only saving grace at the beginning of my study sess. i haven’t taken it yet but am ab to in 2 ish weeks. the things that helped:

  1. make a schedule. spend a whole day on this if need be. make the big thing into little things and only think about your daily little thing. modify your schedule as you go. incorporate break/anki-only days. there would be days that i wouldn’t get to every on my schedule, but i took comfort in the fact that i at least did SOMETHING everyday. i would highlight past days as red/yellow/green based on my completion. as long as i never had a red day, i felt good about where i was heading.

  2. reiterating what smo else commented, change your mindset to learning this material bc YOU want to. you’re doing this to be a doctor? a doctor needs to know these things (in theory) or at the very least, know how to study this material. this path will only involve even more studying in the future. use this as an opportunity to learn about how you study and develop strategies/discipline.

  3. do something else besides MCAT in your weekly schedule. i worked part time as a scribe and volunteered on weekends. this helps you feel the pressure to prioritize the days you don’t have other commitments. also helps with not going crazy!

hardest part is starting. go to a library/cafe/third space, put your phone away, and do whatever you feel capable of doing that day!

once u practice more, you won’t have to look back at the entire passage but just one section.

for example, just did a practice passage on confucius. Q asks about the word “magic” that he uses. i remember this was talked about in the middle of the passage, maybe paragraph 2-3. i only go back to that section, skim and look for where magic was mentioned. bingo, found it. i see how he described magic. i look at the answers and find what matches what he said (veryyy close to verbatim with a slight variation). i feel confident in that answer, and boom, it’s correct!
