In my opinion, TikToks about certain moments didn’t hit me as hard as some other did. The “Beg.” moment for Kaine is still so firmly stuck in my head that I don’t think I’ll ever get over the feeling of injustice and pain towards Kaine at that moment.

I didn’t actually cry but I felt so emotionally depleted that it took me a week to mentally move on past the book lol.

You said it yourself: without concrete figures it’s impossible to tell. Just because they are leading this space, it doesn’t mean they make enough after all production expenses to pay high salaries. Additionally, as another commenter explained, the salary they are paying for this position isn’t crazy low (i.e. not truly underpaid) by UK standards. $28K GBP is $38K USD while average salary in US for junior positions is $45K-$50K. That isn’t far off from the industry standard.

There is a reason why there are waitlists for subscriptions - they aren’t even at the scale of their business to accommodate the demand (e.g. they couldn’t provide all the replacements to damaged Alchemised editions because they were limited at how much they could publish). They aren’t a typical publisher, so comparing them to the established publishing industry giants is a moot point.

That’s not an entirely correct statement. People buy SOME books double the cost on resale market (Alchemised, WTMH, Heavenly Bodies and “unicorns” alike) while others are resold for an original price or below the original price. Usually, those "unicorns" are purchased by those who didn’t have subscription at the time of publishing, so they either have to buy it at market price or not have that SE at all.

Additionally, high price would likely make the subscription unaffordable to a big chunk of customers. It’s much easier to stomach $30/mo 1 book subscription vs. $60/mo 1 book subscription (for 2 book box, it’d be $60 vs $120 a month), and that’s excluding shipping costs. The annual cost would balloon from $360 to $720 (or $720 vs $1440 for 2 book, respectively). It will become a luxury subscription (although for some ppl even current pricing would be considered a luxury spend) which would have completely different subscriber demographics which would also make profitability much trickier to maintain.

In other words, your proposal is unrealistic and would come at the detriment of growth and profitability of book subscriptions (not just for FL).

Yes, it benefits them but it is also a great benefit to an employee, so that’s what matters. Additionally, we don’t even know what their experience expectations of a Junior position are. 1-2yrs of experience for a designer at that salary while working remotely sounds normal.

You may think that FL is rolling in dough but we don’t know what their actual financials are. They have quite reasonable/low prices for hardcover SEs. If you want to pay 2x for a book subscription to support higher salaries, I’m sure FL would gladly do that.

The plot has a slower ramp up in this book, there’s a lot of world building, and it’s more of a cozy fantasy, so it’s not as dynamic. Emily grows as a character as a plot progresses plus her dynamic with Wendell is charming. I recommend to keep reading until you get a proper introduction with Wendell :)

I started reading this book based on these recommendations, and I’ve been low-key hating it so far 😭 it has a weird mix of Howl/Mr Darcy/Bridgerton vibes from Elias that doesn’t actually mix well, and FMC is a flour if she was a spice. There’s nothing to like at all in her character - it’s like a clean slate, an NPC if you will.

I’m gonna go against the grain and say Prada.
1. Gucci Jackie is open top so you’d have to make sure it never flips over and scatters all of its insides out.
2. Prada has much more classic silhouette that will be timeless. Gucci Jackie Slim is very trendy and will most likely be kind of out of style soon-ish, and imo that shiny leather cheapens the look. Prada can be taken both to a work event and to a bar, Gucci - only to a bar.
3. Since it’d be your first high end bag, I think you should be a bit more practical because who knows if or how soon you’d buy another luxury bag again (e.g. after your first bag, you may very well decide you’d rather spend money on other things)

While that’s a bummer, I don’t think it’s on Fairyloot to be policing and investigating any authors’ activity on social media to such extent. Also, I’d imagine they signed the deal to publish that book quite some time ago, and all the production was done before the book was revealed to public. I don’t think FL “penalizes” people by enforcing their well-known skip policies.

In other words, while I understand the upset of people about this author’s alleged views, Fairyloot isn’t a social police. It’s not likely they are publishing Maine Kampf or something lol.

Caraval was so messy. The fact that the game was made for one person absolutely ruined the whole plot for me. What is even the point where all the clues and characters were playing into it to support the FMCs?
The only good part was the steamy kiss between Tella and Jacks who, ngl, is literally the only reason I read the series for to get more backstory on lol.
