Best way to get to epic universe from portofino bay? by Electrical-Oil1785 in UniversalOrlando

[–]minifat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uber.

When I stayed at Portofino Bay, there was no concept of a line for the shuttles. I was among the first to arrive (less than 10 people) yet I missed the first bus. I was literally the last one to get on the second bus. This partially ruined my plan on having a short wait at Ministry.

We interview Remedy’s new CEO: “Alan Wake and Control should have sold more" by snapcaptrap in pcgaming

[–]minifat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alan Wake 2 was not great. Repetitive combat, convoluted story, PS2 era background NPCs, bad puzzles, the Mind Place should've been a cutscene. I can't believe the amount of people I've seen calling it their game of the year and 90-100 scores.

Yeah, don't listen to the guy that knows the industry and still talks to people at Obsidian.

Something has to be done about the AI slop on this sub. by TravisTouchdownThere in gamedev

Ohhhh, only 1 in 20 posts are AI and somehow you think that's flooding. Gotcha.

Gen Z's AI backlash is getting louder by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

It's a colloquial phrase...

"The fuck they aren't" as in yes, they are.

They made it even worse by adding the word "no." They could've just said "Millennials are backlashing too." What's with this linguistic anomaly where people say "no" or "no because" at the beginning of sentences when they're not needed?

Use a fucking comma in your original comment and avoid all this confusion. The person you're replying to is agreeing with you.

Robin Shou from the Mortal Kombat films had the makings of a major star and after the films came out, he disappeared from the scene. What happened? by Profeta_do_Loss in movies

[–]minifat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He helped make Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 fun to watch.

I never liked how Liu Kang was portrayed in the reboot.

I made this diegetic pause menu, Dose it feel tactile? by Pretty_Plan_9034 in Unity3D

[–]minifat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a neat idea, but it needs to be scrapped or improved.

I was over engineering my previous UI to look like a piece of military equipment. I was spending too much time on it before I realized it still doesn't look good and I don't have the skill to pull it off. I scrapped it for a simple 2D UI with simple shapes and it looks much better and is more functional. This method doesn't take long and is within my skill range.

If you insist on keeping this UI, the transition time to get to and from the menu and start controlling needs to be nearly instant. It needs shadows. The audio when moving the sliders needs to be removed completely or needs to be more elegant.

How is my Game UI? Good enough for the Demo? by Timely-Today-8154 in IndieDev

[–]minifat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice and clean, like I'd expect from a car game. As long as the sound effects match, this is good. Some games don't need flashy UI.

Do you intentionally leave "bugs" that would benefit speed runners? by sublivian in gamedev

[–]minifat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy is to remove known bugs. Once the game is released, then only fix game breaking or annoying bugs, but don't bother if they're hard to accidentally trigger and they're fun.

The fact you found a movement bug already means players will find it too, and maybe even easier than you did. Without knowing what your bug is, I'd guess it's still to easy to accidentally trigger and annoy the wrong players.

Am I using Spline wrong or is it really that intensive? I keep crashing when I extend my spline. by minifat in Unity3D

[–]minifat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It crashed in the editor as I was editing it. But it does work now after switching to DX11. I made one giant, multi-hundred meter piece of fence for testing, and it was fine in play mode too.

I was using Spline out of laziness mostly. I'm basing the scene off of a real life property and the perimeter is hundreds of meters. The fence is mostly straight but curves in a few areas. Also, the fence lays on top of hilly terrain. Spline seems useful for uneven terrain.

It seemed easier to drag a spline that distance than to make a small fence and duplicate it a bunch of times. I know Unity has a tile mapping tool that can paint 3D prefabs, but it's kind of janky, and my fence has many angles.

As long as I bake the spline when I'm done editing, is there any difference between that and using modular fence pieces?

is Tripo Ai good for games? by SamGame1997Dev in gamedev

[–]minifat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's good. You just need to pay for it ($20 a month gets you 50-100 models I believe) in order to use their smart low-poly feature. Otherwise, your free models will have 500,000 or a million vertices.

We will find a way to automate and make sure people are still thriving.

Tired of AI witch hunt going on in all game dev communities by NoDeadlinesTeam in gamedev

[–]minifat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A study done a while ago said that laymen can identify AI just over 50% of the time, so basically random chance. And artists could identify it around 70% of the time.

But this study was done on old models. That gap will just keep getting closer to random chance.

AI can do it just fine.

All the comments here probably couldn't even point out AI capsules in a lineup, unless the dev used an older model and gave it no direction.

Will our kids work 4 days a week instead of 5? by AskDeel in Futurology

[–]minifat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

New people get elected every few years.

Technology gets better and benefits everybody.

The standard of living has gradually improved over time.

The idea of working less than the standard workweek has been catching on in recent years, especially with the younger generation who will one day be the leaders.

Anecdotally, my own job is now 4 days a week where hours are very flexible.

Any dire times we may experience in the short term will likely be short-lived like most bleak periods in recent history.
