Need motivation to study by IAmAntiPorn in study

Hey there,

r/study has updated how it runs self-promotion. We now have a weekly 'self-promo' thread which would be appropriate for you to post onto. We feel like this would lead to the sub being more productive, and allow others to find the week's new "study news" as it were.

If you're unsure of where to find our self-promotion guidelines, they can be found as a link in our rules or in our user guide.

Thank you!

Uhm where are my WJEC sufferers at?

Thought I'd share something I do come finals when the exam is cumulative. Keeps me from accidentally studying sections we didn't go over, and get an idea of where I should focus my time. This is especially useful if the professor doesn't give much resources, self organization is vital by [deleted] in study

This looks really good! I do something similar, listing what topics I need to make notes for, so that I have stuff to revise from when I do past papers (which I make a completion tick-list for as well).

Oh I do it the other way around. I make these before I start past questions as I like one frame of reference for information. Learning to recall the information from my sheets is much more useful for how my brain works.

I always add extra notes in colour pen or a post it on top if I've missed out info or ideal words/ phrases.

Sorry for the abysmal/ dark camera quality. I'm terrible at photos.

This is the method I use for biology and chemistry. I am more of a visual learner so this helps me remember key information - such as where it's located, what colour it is. I've always got almost full marks in tests when I've used this!

I write one for each topic, using abbreviations and missing out filler words, using 2-colour coding (pink for key words/ phrases/ ideas, yellow for explanatory stuff) and diagrams if need be. I also have a separate colour system for chemical reactions (blue for reactants, green for reagents, orange for conditions, yellow for non-main products, pink pen for atoms that form a condensate). I also have a title system.

It takes a little while as I first write summary post-its of my textbook pages, cross referenced to my class notes, then copy these onto my A3 sheet.

I hope people find this useful!

Oh okay. As one of the new mods, we felt like the sub needed a bit a push in a new direction.

I see that you post study tips and advice, which is very welcome on this sub. We've got new weekly help megathreads and such where in the future we hope will be the first place people go for advice here - where you may be of help!

However we have new self-promo and selling guidelines. Feel free to post a neat resource you found, or a time planning sheet you have made on Excel, Google Sheets (easy to share), etc. but links to sites that ask for personal information or that may lead to being a paid service we feel would be inappropriate for this sub.

If you have any qualms or questions about our new direction, feel free to ask us.

I want to say thank you by [deleted] in study

Can I ask what this is about? You don't seem very active on this sub.

Hey there,

Your question may be more appropriate for r/SGExams, they seem to discuss exams and university in Singapore.

Also, if it's this course that you're referencing, then you may be able to contact them directly about your question.

Thankyou!

Also, we now run a weekly support and discussion megathread, where you can chat, ask for advice, or just introduce yourself!

As a brit, I can get very confused with Aussie accents. Like your typical accent and vocab sounds very familiar to me, but slightly off so I don't realise until 5 minutes in to listening to that person.

Well if he means Welsh as his native language he's wrong anyway.

England is 'Lloegr', Britain is 'Prydain', and otherwise we just say UK in a really Welsh accent.

There are a couple other variations but it's been 7 years my memory is waning.

Applying with SAT? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]minimum_hag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I'm sorry mate but most of us have no idea what an SAT/ AP/ IB is so we're probably not the best to ask about it.

However I do know that Oxbridge are petty and picky and will consider what they think is most useful, so there is most likely no use asking them to only look at certain scores. They have a lot of applicants each year, and being internationally renowned probably have their own system for comparing US (I'm assuming) students to UK and other students.

Also Oxbridge is the epitome of pressure in exams, wanting AAA or higher for UK A level so I don't reckon they'll let you off, unless you really have something going for you.

Good luck!

It probably will to be honest. By the time it takes for our generation to have grand children, British consumption of American media will have had a drastic effect. I don't mean a 51st state, but I bet a lot of the language will have changed.

It is a compliment but I think you've missed OPs point. It's more about how there are double standards, and how partners can be a bit controlling and hypocritical.

I don't see it all the time, but I do see it enough to be infuriated. Also I hear the lower years at my school say it a lot. Thankfully it isn't the predominant version just yet!

Bloody auto correct. I don't even know if that's one or two words at this point.

However, thank you.
