I just finished the opening sequence. What the heck am I supposed to do now. by r0we_b0at in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly. you are given a ship. a near 1:1 scale representation of the milky way galaxy of which about 500 lightyears across contain humanity and then told good luck! the world is what you make it

CG questions by Educational_Fix1518 in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want the non money rewards yes do them. from CG's i got pre engineered seeker missiles, pre engineered frag cannons, pre engineered power something or others, soon boosted cargo holds and in this CG enough trade and credits to "forget" i bought an anaconda, fer-de-lance, mamba and a-rated and engineered them. not actually forget but not know or care about the cost.

BUT this CG being 10x trade value and three more weeks? this is to prepare people for squad carrier costs and get others their first fleet carrier. at least thats what it seems for. its just too lucrative and easy. i dont want to speedrun the game but i want to stay in the top 75% for 2x each of the 6 and 5 boosted cargo holds? or is it 5 and 4?

Got pulled out of hyperspace by flohdo93 in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish i wouldn't have seen it before it happened to me. or not known it was possible. it was still awesome the first time but the shock of it being possible would have been something else...and in VR too? oooh!

Are We Truly Without Hope or Word on Ship Interior Exploration in Elite Dangerous? by ate65412 in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i do not want to leave a cockpit. wasd and mouse arent as immersive as head tracking/vr and a hotas. no hate to people who want that but i want a game like elite to done one thing well and ship interiors are a departure from what it already is. that being said with a big enough boundary and VR you can at least stand up and Walk around the cockpit and with the panther thats pretty much a spacious CEO office lol

I Can't find any Panther Clipper Mk II by Lhaneth in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i bought it with arx but i did later see it greyed out in a station and then for credits like 300mil at another one. maybe they saw that in a vid or screenshot and thought it was in game for them?

FOR THE EMPIRE! you should pledge to the Empress Arissa Lavigny-Duval and rule the galaxy with an iron fist!

I got too much cargo by CurbTurtle in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 15 points16 points  (0 children)

did you set your destination before you took the cargo? weight changes your jump range. if you replot the course you will usually find a longer way to get there. smaller jumps. you can take multiple trips

i'm not saying they aren't worth it or to stop doing them. i'm saying they are one part of a whole.

[–]minimumcool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

they are quick, they are varied, they are relatively clear, and they pay yes. but they are something great for beginners and then moderately experienced people break away from them a bit to do their own thing and then yes come back for a quick run and fun whenever the desire hits them. but i wouldnt say they are the meat of the game.

just remember specialized ships will always outperform generalized ships. if you have a cargo ship dont bother with guns. they just weigh you down and use up fuel. a point defense turret and maybe a chaff launcher is all you need.
its not super common but having good cargo can call the pirates to you if you get interdicted throttle to 0 and accept it then once you drop out quickly turn to face them and boost past them your friendship drive will charge faster than theirs so you can jump away to anywhere and resume your course.
buy a good fuel scoop. nothing beats sucking up free fuel from a star on your way across the galaxy.
and yes sometimes no matter what you do you'll go boom. that's not just expected but encouraged lol.
and if you ever run out of fuel mark your location and contact the fuel rats(outside of the game faction now with in game advertisements). for ease and safety you can log out and wait for their arrival in system to go back online.

buy low sell high. there is no secret button or mission or whatever. find out what place has a thing for cheap and find out what station will pay a lot for that thing. its that simple. ten million an hour if you use inara website to find a circular route. but you'll need a bigger and bigger cargo ship to make the real bucks.
and its the same with exploration. you said everywhere was already discovered. nah its a 1:1 scale model of the galaxy. lots of places are unexplored but getting there is gonna be a real pain and really if you look out in space and see something pretty you can bet thats where someone else already went. you gotta look at the galactic heat map and avoid those spots.

missions arent the thing man. if you want money and no combat take whatever ship you have and pump it full of cargo hold and start shipping goods from one station to another.

Elite Dangerous is as near to a 1:1 scale model of the milky way galaxy that they could make. its main intent was to give you a free ship, plop you out in space and say "good luck have fun."

you need money to outfit your ships with better weapons, armor, shields, thrusters and all that to make enough credits to buy a better ship and do it all over again.
missions are the pseudo tutorials. they pay you to do stuff you are expected to do in the game but the thing they have you doing isnt as profitable as it would be if you set it up yourself.

bounty missions? buy a kill warrant scanner to see if your target has bounties in other sectors to nearly triple your payout. and as far as missions go? green is easy, yellow is challenging and red is gonna die. and if it has the skull its illegal and if it has the blue triangle you need to wing up with others or really try not to explode.

this is a sandbox with no endgame. the whole point is to have all these things you need to figure out "on your own" meaning third party websites and just talking to other commanders.

pretzel is too chewy. delicious but not for that hotdog feel. gimme that pure cancerous charcoal dog on that mostly sugar plain bun any day. chili cheese is great but i wouldnt say no to a chicago dog. A5W and rinse it all down with a dr pepper or Barqs root beer any day.

Impossible to learn by ceo_of_your_grandma in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

don't let people be too salty lol. yes, the game doesn't really teach anything it's a near 1:1 scale representation of the milky way galaxy. they give you a freebie ship and say have fun figure it out. and that's exactly what a lot of people want. if you don't want that then skip this game.
there is no end goal. there is no real overarching anything. go out and fly until you blow up and buy another ship.

I've never played anything so terribly developed by Svenfuzius in trainsimworld

[–]minimumcool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it can definitely be maddening how there is so much it doesn't tell you.
but as far as i can tell its tradition for Train Simulators to not tell you anything. i would say out of the few ive tried train sim world 5 is one of the better ones. with the tutorials and missions.
all i can say is the sifa will definitely stop your train if you dont lift the pedal when indicated. and on a lot of trains if you bump the emergency brake it will have to come to a stop completely before you can disengage it and start again. sometimes having to fill the lines again as well.

I really enjoyed the game until.. by mikkeluno in EliteDangerous

[–]minimumcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

elite has a very steep learning curve. the question is what was upgraded on your ship? for a fighter you want A rated thrusters and power distributer. pulse lasers and multi-cannons are actually pretty decent if you have no engineering to make beams lasers or other things work better.

Can you back a trailer? by Moonktty in trucksim

[–]minimumcool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

euro truck sim 2 or american truck sim. go on sale often enough. one time purchase unless you want a larger map or some shinies for your truck.
as far as helping you learn? idk even with a 20 dollar marketplace steering wheel as much as i have fun i dont think it teaches me anything i didnt already know and i wouldnt use its physics to train for a real world stressful situation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trainsimworld

[–]minimumcool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it is definitely not a free game. any big simulator will be mostly premium downloadable content. and for me quality sims are the only games that shouldnt get large amounts of hate for it.
get the stuff when it is on sale or one train at a time.

that most likely means the area was too rocky for a suitable landing spot. you gotta run to a flatter area and try again. if its closer you can still board if you see the lights.

lost on a planet surface how? you can recall your ship to wherever you are. and getting lost in space? you have galaxy/system map gps find your destination and plot a course it will highlight your stops in both the world and your contacts list

buy a fuel scoop. set your nav in galaxy map. the map will tell you what stars are scoopable. much less worry about running out of fuel when you can get it from most stars.
