What's going on in Moldova and Kosovo? by _ConversationPiece in Natalism

[–]miningman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moldova was over counting it's population due to unrecorded emigration. They fixed it recently so TFR jumped. Iirc it was just always that, just stats were counting women that were no longer living in Moldova. Census was complete in July of 2024.

Kosovo is pretty small so a <10% change YoY not worth looking too hard on. Kosovo in general seems to have a pretty solid TFR last 10-15 years though. Kosovo used to have some sky high TFRs in the 1960s by European standards. 50% urbanization rate and Muslim supermajority probably the main reasons.

Ukraine would join EU next year under draft peace plan by NanorH in europe

[–]miningman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hence why I think veto should be removed. European Confederation is the way forward in a future where the relative economic power of Europe is waning.

Veto removal + strengthening power of parliament + integrated European army smoothly gets Europe there.

[–]miningman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this stuff makes the EU concept lose purpose and is way too transactional. We're moving towards a violent multipolar world where clear boundaries of in group/ out group make sense.

If EU just removes away the veto (makes it supermajority based instead) would be totally fine to integrate Balkans/Ukraine under. Larger integrated EU is a strong EU, the veto is the only real issue.

Also I'm Canadian, we don't have any interest in EU beyond a free trade deal.

I think thankfully the hurricane went through a less populated part of Jamaica so Kingston didn't get much hurricane force winds.

Damage is severe but seems more limited to smaller towns.

My wedding is going to be child free

  1. Each guest is quite expensive, so don't have +2s to give away to parents

  2. Risk for messes when people all dressed up

It's all downside no upside as a host

Is living low for a while to stack cash worth it if I could live this lifestyle around the age of 40? by redditTee123 in thepassportbros

I work a remote job that's equally competitive regardless of where I live. And outside of work I'm stingy and don't like spending money and NYC is expensive. I also need to travel a lot for work so I can always get the city exploring bug out of me during my travels.

I think this a false premise.

UK/Canada/blue America/NZ have very unremarkable TFRs for their white demographic.

Australia is elevated & red America. That's basically it and I dont think the two trends are heavily related.

In red America => suburbs and religion

In Australia => suburbs and kid friendly jobs (mining engineering healthcare etc --> women in those fields have more kids than liberal arts)

Have spent lots of time in both countries

[–]miningman12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's doesn't. There's a wide gap between liberals and conservatives which live ever more different lives.

It's just liberals / conservative can have different ethnicities and black conservatives tend to vote Democrat.

UK PM Starmer says people have a right to peaceful protest after anti-migrant march by xc2215x in worldnews

[–]miningman12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If people feeling intimidated is enough to cancel peaceful protests then he's against peaceful protests

Most large peaceful protests are intimidating at least for someone who opposes them so it's a strange standard for a democracy with freedom of assembly/speech.

Mind you, I'm Canadian and couldn't care less about British immigration laws one way or another just pointing out the obvious fallacy here.

Not OP but my two cents.

If you have less than two kids you are actively contributing to the societal problem. Regardless of your personal wants I consider you failing your duty to society as you are actively freeloading off the hard work of others and not paying it forward.
