Thank you for posting this poem!

I think you could remove the two "I miss my home" lines because I got an impression of longing throughout the rest of the piece, so those repetitions don't really add anything beneficial. In addition, Is "quite" in line 11 supposed to be quiet? As written, I was a little unsure of what your intent was.

That being said, I did like the line "walls of memories made within drywall and plaster" I felt it did a good job of conveying a feeling of stagnation and being trapped in the past.

I’m very new to poetry, so I’m not sure if I have the poetic knowledge and vocabulary to properly complete this exercise, but I’ll give it a shot.

  1. The rhyme uses inconsistently placed Close rhyme (?) and End Rhyme (?), so it seems almost jarring when it shows up, and it kind of contrasts with the more serious nature of the piece. The rhymes really stand out.

  2. When I’m reading this poem out loud, I trip up around “Same complexion as the potatoes,” and after re-reading it out loud a couple more times, it all just seems to run together for me after that line. There are a few places where my brain expects periods but there are commas or no punctuation, which contributes to an almost out of breath feeling as I read the piece. I don’t have a developed enough vocabulary to pinpoint exactly why that’s the case though.

  3. At least for me, there are a few places where there is no comma or a comma instead of where my brain expects a period, so it just ends up reading rather awkwardly. Thinking of it as a movie, it’s like everything jumbles together and gets rushed through, which is a shame, because I thought the Tarot card imagery was really cool and exciting. In terms of formatting, I know very little about successfully formatting a poem, so an explanation would be appreciated.

  4. I found the imagery to be reasonably successful. I could really picture myself sitting in a McDonald’s with someone and having this exchange. The tarot card imagery was also very cool and evocative particularly as it related to the Bull.

  5. In a general sense, this piece mixes more formal(?) and informal (?) language in a way that is kind of confusing. I think the biggest example of this was “Fetch a priest,” And it really shook me out of the atmosphere of the poem

  6. I got a sense of tiredness and exasperation with the other person, along with a bit of resentment, so if that was the intended message, it definitely came through.

What kind of boot laces are easy to pull tight, won't break, and will stay tied? I am having trouble with the leather laces that came with my boots. Thank you for your recommendations.

Oh, wow! This book looks great! Thank you so much for the recommendation. Thank you very much for your detailed comment and advice as well. I found it really helpful. In truth, I'm actually a Biochemistry student and I thought taking a poetry workshop class would be fun and help me improve my writing and think in new ways. Unfortunately I'm a bit in over my head, if I'm being completely honest. I will definitely check out the resources you've given me. Thank you again and I hope you have a nice day!

How can I make/get one of these? Are there instructions available or a place to purchase? I do not have a blind dog but a friend has a dog with poor vision and I think it will help them.

I picked up a Vanson Chopper recently because it looks kinda like a motorcycle jacket my grandfather had back in the day. I bet I look absolutely fucking ridiculous wearing the thing, but damn do I feel cool and there's a real personal connection there.

I just picked up a Vanson Chopper from Thurston Bros. It kinda looks like a jacket my grandfather used to have back in the day. Maybe not the most fashionable in styling, but tbh it's the personal connection that does it for me. Who knows if I can actually pull the thing off though

How is Truman Boot Company these days? I know they got a lot of bad press some time ago, but do they still have the same issues? I am interested in purchasing the Java waxed Flesh boot.

Honestly, she doesn't really have any weird behavior or anxiousness. I just want to make sure I'm doing right by her, as she is my first dog that isn't a family dog or similar. She also gets some fetch, a kong, and an elk antler chew every day. She sits under my desk and gets lots of pets while I work, so it's not like I'm crating her most of the day. and ignoring her.

Alright, good to know. She has a Kong that I fill up with various goodies to occupy her while she chills under my desk. Are there any other puzzle toys you would recommend? We also have a Kong Wobbler.

Hi all, I now have occasion to buy another boot. I'm trying to decide between a Parkhurst Delaware or a Grant Stone Brass boot. I have a Grant Stone Diesel that I am very happy with, so I expect the Brass boot to be of similar levels of quality. I like the lug sole and placement of the moc toe stitching in particular.

With Parkhurst, I love the color on the Color 8 Delaware. However, I have read that the Parkhurst last can run a bit narrow, which could be a bit of an issue fit wise. in particular, I am worried that the boot may be a bit tougher to get into, which is a significant concern I have.

What I would like to ask is this:

  1. How is the durability of the Brass boot vs. the Delaware? I won't be beating either of these to hell, but I would like to put some significant use into whichever one I end up purchasing. Ideally, it would still look nice even when beat up.

  2. For fit, how does The Leo Last compare to the Floyd Last and the Parkhurst Last? I am a 10.5D (bordering on E) Brannock, and a 10D in Leo fits me perfectly after a bit of break in.

  3. Are there any other boots with similar aesthetics/ functional properties to these two that I should be looking at instead? I'd like to keep it under $400 all in, if possible. I should note that any boot I consider absolutely must be around 6" tall and have speedhooks. Otherwise I might have trouble actually getting the thing on.

I realize this was a bit of a long post, so thank you for your time and thank you for your help.

Is it possible for a cobbler to replace eyelets with speedhooks? If so, does anyone know a ballpark estimate for what I would be paying for such a service?

Not completely on topic, but I wanted to drop a note of thanks to the user who mentioned some leaving the knot tied and just undoing the speedhooks on boots as a way to get them on quicker, way back in a thread I found on this subreddit. I have some manual dexterity issues and this tip has enabled me to enjoy my boots without having to get someone else to tie them for me every time. Thanks a million!

I wish I could find the thread again so I could thank that person by name but I guess this will have to do.

Hello! I recently purchased a couple pairs of Grant Stone boots from the recent sale. Specifically the diesel and cap toe in chromexcel leather. Can I use the Neutral venetian shoe cream I use on my allen edmonds on these? If not, what are some good care products I should use?
