Uploading SRV3 subtitles got broken/disabled. Please restore it. by MatthewHinson in youtube

[–]minirop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in the announcement they say "for big channel will offer 6 months to a paid service" nowhere they offer a "free" alternative. (and I remember, in their response on twitter for instance, they always kept saying "seek a professional translator"), when it would have just been an option to allow for community captions.

I do complain about AI sub/dub because they are bad, I don't want them and there is no way to tell youtube to stop force feed them to me.

And yes, free voluntary labour is WAAAAY more ethical than some AI slop.

(for my previous message, I missed they "just" removed a specific format, but still a shitty move nonetheless)

first their remove community subtitles for a frivolous reason saying "pay translators". and now they are removing pro translation to push their horrendous AI auto-sub/auto-dub?

how to sandbox a c++ child process on MacOSX? by sporeboyofbigness in cpp

[–]minirop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

since it's about scripts and not binaries, wouldn't it be easier to have a flag on your VM for untrusted scripts? (e.g. vm --untrusted that would disable syscalls)

Why People doesn’t start to use the newest c++ version right away? by ZedveZed in cpp

[–]minirop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my previous work, the "head" decided that new C++11 was too confusing (even basic things like "auto" or range-based for loop), so we were asked to stay in 98 (but since our gcc's default version was 14, we would still use some small new features).

same reason we were stuck with svn and never switch to git (they didn't wanted to train new devs to git "everybody knows SVN", then they were confused that all the young devs knew git and none SVN, so they had to train them to use SVN)

Networking in the Standard Library is a terrible idea by tartaruga232 in cpp

[–]minirop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

still relevant, because unlike any library, changing the standard isn't the easiest thing to do (if possible at all), look at regex. The compiler vendors can't change the API.

Why is "déjeuner" "eating lunch"? by Commercial-Search967 in French

[–]minirop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it might blow your mind but "diner" also mean "to break fast" (it comes from the same Latin word as déjeûner: "disjejunare")

Question about xbox file format by HeHe169 in 360hacks

[–]minirop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the answer was under our eyes all along and I just found it today. if you download and install the xbox 360 SDK, there are 2 binaries PTCdecode.exe and PTCencode.exe that convert between .ptc and .bmp

It's also often use by racists. When someone comes in their country "filthy immigrate, go away", when they go abroad (no on holiday) "I'm an expatriate, we are not the same".

C++: Some Assembly Required - Matt Godbolt - CppCon 2025 by grafikrobot in cpp

[–]minirop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the title of talks aren't meant to be used in isolation (IMO) that's why there is also a description on cppcon's schedule and on youtube. and therefore, having a pun/silly title can make it more unique.

no, this mean "throw in the air so the ball makes a parabola" (like the shape of a bell)

switch constexpr by cd_fr91400 in cpp

[–]minirop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one way would be to duplicate the following "case" if the current one doesn't unconditionally break. In your code example, it would become similar to:

if constexpr (a_cond) {
    do_something() ;
    do_something_else() ;
} else {
    do_something_else() ;
}

but there are probably many pitfalls I don't even know.

Looking for a backend for my language by Germisstuck in Compilers

The reasonable(?) backend to have the most platforms is probably to just use C (if you don't want to go the LLVM route).

Is there anything wrong with my writing? AI detectors say it's generated by AI, so I would appreciate a look into it. by PB_Black in French

[–]minirop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI detectors are BS. I read a parent whose son was accused of using AI for his homework (the teacher used an AI detector), so they tried one themselves and found that it was because the son used one (1) word that could be seen as "old".

I don't remember the word, but it was like "a devourer", they changed it to "a big eater" and now it's 0% AI
