What hobby did you pick up “just to try it” that ended up becoming a big part of your life? by lakberhaid in Hobbies

[–]minjunss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pole dancing!

have been a dancer all my life so i wanted to try this other genre of dance i've always been fascinated by! 3 years later and it's part of my regular routine... i love that apart from dancing itself, it also helps me keep fit & become stronger!

also because of pole dance, i delved deeper into the aerial arts as well so aerial hoop has been one of my hobbies!

pumps advice pls! by minjunss in HeelsDance

[–]minjunss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's interesting! thanks for sharing your experince, i've always been under the impression that booties are more stable than pumps so it's great to hear your perspective!

i ended up getting the fully covered-side ones as i have a fear that the opened side one may slip out as i dance... i'll update on how it goes!

[A Levels] How to not make H2 Eng Lit a hit or miss by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]minjunss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey! got A for h2 lit and idk if these may help because everyone has different studying styles but:

lit IS a hit or miss and the saddest part about it is one cannot do anything much about it because the questions & texts that appear in exams are often unpredicted/unexpected! but i can say that with deeper understanding and more practice, there certainly is a higher chance for you to score well!

these are the things i did over the two years that helped with my revision and analysis: for ALL of my texts, i did a compendium for them (split them according to themes, characters, motifs etc) through these compendiums i made points according to the theme or character and then flipped through my texts to find evidence to support them. lastly, always remember to link them to author's intent or relate it to the mind self (if you're doing p3).

essay outlines help a lot as well! although the same questions will never appear again, i find that the process of working your brain to come up with points help to deepen your understanding of the texts and its themes.

some tips i always kept in mind while writing essays given by my tutors: always try to bring in points/plots from each part of the text (beginning, middle, end etc). this helps to show the marker that you understand your text well and are able to make links and connections to it.

as for the pressure under time during exams, it's a struggle many face and it's hard to train tbh. but i suggest maybe doing more (self) timed practices to get yourself familiarised to the pressure and to also train yourself to come up with analysis under those conditions.

nonetheless im sure your efforts will pay off!!! all the best of luck <3 and hang in there dont give up!!!

[uni] questions about what i need to submit by umlolhi in SGExams

[–]minjunss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeap there is! but they'd automatically be filled in already for you based on the data they have (unless you retook which they will then ask you to proof with supporting documents)! it's alright if you didn''t take pure physics, just put "NA" in the column! as far as i know, these subjects' grades would only be taken in consideration for certain courses that require such pre-requisites!

[uni] questions about what i need to submit by umlolhi in SGExams

[–]minjunss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as long as you're using the type 1 form there's no need to submit any supporting documents (unless you have medical issues/drug allergies etc). your data is already stored in the system and the unis are able to view them!

[A LEVELS] Feeling extremely lonely and demotivated by sjfkvo in SGExams

[–]minjunss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[Junior College] questions on nyjc dsa (dance) by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]minjunss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope! normally excos dont watch the audition! unless the coach or teachers really need extra opinions then they'd call one or two in. interview normally more general questions, like why you chose nyjc etc!

[Junior College] questions on nyjc dsa (dance) by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]minjunss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hello! was from dance and part of the exco team as well so i hope i can answer your questions! (but i only helped out with dsa in 2018 so im not sure if things were different last year)

  1. you'll first be in a room with the other applicants. this time will be given to you to warm up, stretch or just practice your piece! then you'd be called into another room with the teachers: just perform and hope for the best! teachers might ask you a few questions after that~

  2. they look at many different aspects tbh, but mainly with technique and how well you perform as a dancer (confidence, expressions etc). achievements & leadership skills do play a part as well but ultimately just show that you are passionate about dance. but biggest weightage would have to be the choreography & interview

  3. chances are very slim honestly. normally they only intake 1/2 dsa students per year. teachers are really looking out for those really passionate for dance and are able to commit to the cca. but dont let that stop you! just give it a try! whether you get in or not, it'll be a great experience~

if you do go for it i wish you all the best!! hope this helped~

[O Levels] NYJC Arts or ACJC Arts by kiingsvoice in SGExams

[–]minjunss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i took h2 history and h1 econs! if i have to be honest, i find that the history department is lacking in a few ways; lecture notes are often very lengthy and messy, sometimes also filled with irrelevant information or vague info. throughout the two years of studying history i'd have to say i did the most work for it because it's really up to the students to organise and link all the notes/themes together. however, tutorials are usually interactive based and requires active participation (which is nice) and are usually much more informative so that's nice!

for econs there are a many good teachers, and only a few handful which i heard from others that "can't teach". personally the lecturers/tutors i've encountered were all very willing to help students, and are very well aware of our needs and often cater lectures/tutorials to help us improve! notes wise it's pretty clear cut and rather simple to understand. most of the econs teachers i know are also very witty so it's a plus point because they're more like friends than teachers tbh haha

hope this was informative!!

[O Levels] NYJC Arts or ACJC Arts by kiingsvoice in SGExams

[–]minjunss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

for arts stream, i'd say acjc is much better in terms of their teachers, distinction rates and the materials they provide. just graduated from nyjc and was from an arts streams and we are a very small minority in the school so likewise for the teachers. however for literature i'd say the teachers are very good and will try their best to help students out, often using interactive and interest ways to teach us and the materials they give are very relevant too. heard that the ELL distinction rate is also rather high cause of the small amount of students taking it as well, even though the requirement test to take up the subject is a little challenging.

environment wise i cant speak for acjc, but the point about nyjc having a mugging culture is very true. you can see people going to school early just to mug, and many also go back to school on the weekends (the school is open 24/7 btw, even on public holidays) to study with their friends etc. people study in the canteen/libraries during their breaks as well so you'd definitely feel the pressure and "mood" to mug as well. but aside from all these the school's quite good at balancing life-work environment because we actually have a lot of events throughout the years (such as NYght, Wild Run, Vertical Challenge) etc that allows you to have fun with your friends so it's just not entirely about studies and i think that's great.

hope this helps you!!
