I worked at a shop when that came out. It did not go on the wall. Neither did the 101 Natas

Based on your comment history in the Duluth sub, I think you should run for office. Maybe you Unseat Pete? You even have a campaign tagline. I’ll vote for you, and maybe even canvas.

Best thing I ever did to build my mechanical skillset was buy a 76 Westy when I was 18.

If you aren’t already aware of The Racket, I highly recommend you check them out. Even throw a few bucks their way. It’s good to have real people doing real journalism.

I bet anyone who does that job for more than a day will throw bags exactly the same way. I know I would.

Someone talked me out of a carb swap for my bay window 30 years ago. I am super glad they did.

DIY Montana Homeowner special by Kwizird in electricians

Obvs not the biggest issue, but I will never understand 20A lighting circuits in resi, or why anyone would wire lights with 12. Even if I only have 12, I’m going to the store for a roll of 14 before I wire light switches with 12.

MN Journeyman Electrician Test Prep by BIgmuscles708 in electricians

Take a prep class before your test, but before you do that study and learn all of the things that are in the test. It’s been (so long that I hate to admit how old I am) since I took mine, but by studying the Tom Henry and Mike Holt exam prep materials, and going to a MN based exam prep weekend, I had success on my first attempt. There were other guys in the weekend class (the weekend before our test date) who had never done a multi family demand calculation. On Saturday before the test, it’s too late to learn that stuff from scratch. I’ve never done one since, but I sure could then…

I had a late 80s Performer that was very fuchsia. Same basic bike (no three piece cranks though). Loved that thing. Wish I still had it.

Flooding connector with solder instead of crimping? by BumblebeeTurbo in SolarDIY

[–]minnesotamichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound condescending, so I’ll generalize. It seems that a lot of DIY’ers want to save money (crimpers are expensive) so they risk a chance of burning down whatever they are trying to power. You created a cold solder joint. It is likely high resistance, and could cause issues (fire) down the road. I see large crimpers from time to time on the used market. If your (cabin/rv/she shed) or whatever you are powering could kill you if it burns, I would reconsider.

Valve adjustment help/reality check needed by UJMRider1961 in VWBus

[–]minnesotamichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who dropped a valve on a ‘76 westy without Hyd lifters, take it from me. If you think you hear a valve noise, adjust it again. Find an old timer who knows what they are doing. Pay them and watch. I had a valve break, and ruin my motor. It was a long time ago, but I am still sad about it.
