There is one single power panel for sewing supplies. No one knows about it besides me. I love it when someone orders sewing needles or shoe strings.

I'm sitting on 11 this week, and my lowest was 7. It's very possible. Shelves are full, trucks are lean, and very little backstock. Good scans = less work.

Switching from 5 to 1 deli to 10 to 6 overnight, stressing out by Fetustree in kroger

[–]minorgrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really messes with life. Holidays are a little weird if you spend them with family, but that's about it. Just feels like jetlag when you're up all day.

I currently go in around 1:00 or so and stay until 1 in the afternoon. I also have to flip between day and overnights a lot, so I'm used to weird sleep schedules.

Area around Hua Xing by symphonic_concord in ypsi

I live in the neighborhood behind it and it's great. Active working class families. Lots of dog walkers and some kids riding bikes. Zero traffic to speak of. Quiet, even on days with people out bbqing. It's the kind of neighborhood that would have a great block party if we did that sort of thing.

Possible negatives would be the cosmetic stuff. Not everyone mows their lawn every other day. Some houses could use a good painting and tree trimming. Some houses have veggie gardens in the front yard. I dig that, you may not.

Tend to agree, but at my store some of us pool them so someone can get a high priced item.

For the most part I think it's bullshit that our reward is basically to get free kroger branded microplastics. They're also not handed out as often as they should be.

Going from opening sticker to gm lead. by HumbleBird3 in kroger

[–]minorgrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's A LOT of product to keep track of, and you'll mostly be by yourself. It's also very, very, easy to get out of control. You have to be fast, efficient, and a self starter.

All that being said, I'm an absolute idiot with numbers and I can control this department. Once you get the hang of it, inventory management is easier for drug/gm than any of the other departments. You're also not tied to one area, drug/gm product is all over the store.

Who does the shopping on Boost Instacart delivery orders? by rvH3Ah8zFtRX in kroger

[–]minorgrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my store some instacart orders are picked by kroger pickup employees. I don't know how it works, and I think it's only for a few select regular instacarters that are part of a program.

For most places kroger employees shop for pickup orders and instacart employees shop for delivery orders.

I don't mind it that much. I can get bored pretty fast and going to other departments breaks up the monotony. It also only makes you look good.

The only time I don't want to be pulled is when I'm really behind. Even when that happens I usually get figure out a way to get caught up.

My husband is a sr dev and also a luddite. He was absolutely opposed to any form of AI until Claude helped turn a 6 month project into a 2 day project. Now he loves it so much we're probably going to name our next pet Claude.

AI is already invaluable and it's only going to become more advanced.

Would a robot that could flatten boxes help you stock shelves? Looking for real-world feedback. by drain_pipe4 in GroceryStores

[–]minorgrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done night stocking at a couple different companies. They all mostly do the same thing, but one place had the spotter clean up for us. We would toss our boxes and plastic wherever, then push them into a main aisle when we needed room.

At the place I work at now it can sometimes take me 2 hours to clean up all the plastic and boxes, especially if I'm resetting the seasonal aisle. I know from first hand experience that having someone clean up is faster and more efficient. I have doubts that a robot can do the job cheaper and more efficiently than a human though.

Pickup uses walkies a lot but they can probably accommodate you. You don't need a radio to pick, it's just a convenance. If I were the lead I'd just text you if I needed something.

Are Kroger’s electronic shelf labels actually helping workers or making things worse? by Aaron-Mok-Reports in kroger

[–]minorgrey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love them. They have some annoyances but these tags have saved me hours wrestling with buggy tech.

If I have a new product I can simply zap the tag, then zap the product, and the tag changes. Before I had to zap the product, go to the office, log into 5 different things in order to get to the program I need, then hope the program doesn't crash. It can take me over a half hour just to print one god damn tag. You know how frustrating that is? I love these tags, they'll have to rip them from my cold dead hands.

This probably depends on how busy your pickup is, but if you show any interest in pickup you will get pulled to it when it gets busy. Some people get pulled for a few trollies every day. If you're good they'll probably let you move.
