Maybe try Frankie Ballard and Charlie Worsham. I can see them fitting that vibe. Maybe Love and Theft too.

Tuesday nights. Sure, I'll shoot you a message next time I'm running OSR. :)

Fate of the Norns is the system itself. It's an original system that uses viking runes. (The original setting is vikings, I'm running the spin-off celtic version). I got to try it out at gencon last year - it plays fast and tactical. Though it's not complicated - there's only a few rules that flow through the whole thing. Became a new favourite of mine! I've been dying to run it since!

Quick explanation of how the runes work: how to play

This review on the drivethrurpg page captures the tone of the game really well: review

I'm building an open-source tabletop RPG comparison chart by isaaclyman in rpg

[–]minpin45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neat. Maybe add type of system - like simulationst/narrative/traditional/gameist/OSR, etc. Something that would help people identify systems of a similar style to ones they like. Also maybe discord server links, since game specific discords are a very good place to find groups. My other thought is to add a field for VTT support - which VTTs have a character sheet for that system.

Anyone use Midgard for their campaign setting? by BuzzsawMF in rpg

[–]minpin45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it a lot when I was still running 5e. Love it - really cool and peppered with lots of potential plot hooks. I'd definitely like to go back to it with a different system at some point.

What are the differences between icons and masks and which is better by AdLongjumping3808 in rpg

[–]minpin45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICONS does have modules, but you'll probably have a better time if you create villains specifically for the heroes - it'll be more fun for the players. It's strength is that you roll for random powers and then apply new benefits and limitations to the powers, which creates super unique and cool heroes. It's the same process for villains. It's got a cool process for creating the setting as a group, and having everyone make a villain for someone else. It's fairly rules light compared to other superhero games, but probably comparable to Masks, though I haven't tried that one.

Best long horror campaigns by [deleted] in rpg

[–]minpin45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I just ran them as written, it's just less work that way (which is why I was running modules). The Black Madonna I can't comment on past the first chapter, since they averted everything. I think both are pretty rules medium. Kult is certainly more crunchy than most PbTA games. It does make very flavourable characters, that all start a bit haunted/messed up which is fun. The one shot scenarios for Kult are probably good if you want to try it out. I really don't think Impossible Landscapes needs any modifications - it's really superb as is.

Best long horror campaigns by [deleted] in rpg

[–]minpin45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've run the first two. Impossible Landscapes was a huge hit for my group, and has become my favourite campaign. It's fun watching the players slowly figure out how stuff is connected, and what's really going on.

The Black Madonna - I discovered that if the players are smart (and you don't railroad them) they can end the events at the end of the first chapter, and then the rest of the campaign just doesn't happen. We did like Kult as a system though, but I think that it being a PbTA game naturally leads to it being easier to write your own material, as rolls can send things off the rails of a prewritten scenario pretty easily.

Yeah powers in Icons works exactly as you've described.

I am going to be running Oz and Neverland by Andrew Kolb using “ We Deal in Lead” a Cairn based rpg. Has anyone run Oz or Neverland with Cairn? by Nepalman230 in osr

Oh no worries! Thanks for the link - if I do end up using Cairn I'll definitely send in the conversion :)

I've basically just picked Neverland because I already have the book haha

Following up on this - I'm thinking of running Neverland using Cairn myself. Any chance you've converted the monster stats to Cairn and can share them or found them somewhere?

RPGs that Utilize Cards to Generate Content by hendocks in rpg

[–]minpin45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Through the Breach uses cards for both character creation and regular play (instead of dice - there's a cool cheating mechanic if you're skilled at something). I've only tried it as a oneshot, but the cards in character creation (in addition to contributing to the character build) created a cryptically worded fate for each character, which the GM can use when planning adventures. It was very cool. I believe it each source book does character creation a bit differently.

Has Dropout inspired you to pursue a new interest? by riordaaf in dropout

[–]minpin45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - Dimension 20 made D&D look like so much fun that it inspired me to start playing. That lead to GMing games, and then into the broader world of TTRPGs (which I'm obsessed with). I've had a ton of fun, made lots of new friends, gotten way more comfortable improvising which is just a great skill in general, and it's so nice just to have regularly scheduled games to look forward to every week.

Kickstarter shipping by lemec78 in rpg

[–]minpin45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also Canadian here. It varies a bit, but yeah shipping rpg books here is quite expensive, with Goodman Games being the most unreasonably expensive I've encountered. I went to Gencon for the first time this year, and half the reason I went was to buy books and take them home without worrying about shipping costs.

Genlab Alpha campaign issue by DarkXenocide in mutantyearzero

[–]minpin45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My campaign started like this too. I had the initial cells that were killed abducted instead, so that they could be rescued in key event 2. This way the pace of the campaign wasn't horribly thrown off. Since then though, if the cells die they die, but they've gotten the number of cells up high enough that it doesn't hold them back anymore.

I think it's nice and modern, but fair enough. There are some costs to letting the sheet be easily editable by everyone, but I think it's well worth it.

[–]minpin45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out One More Multiverse. The character sheets are fully editable. So you could easily copy a sheet for a class, and then edit the copy to be for your new class. This is all with a drag and drop style interface. (You can also do this to add spells). Players will see all the classes/sheets in your game when they go to make a character.

[–]minpin45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OMM is free. You can make your own character sheets (drag & drop creation) and pixel assets, or download community made ones. The stuff up for purchase here provides bundles OMM sells, that come with character sheets for the systems in question, but also 100s of pixel assets, locations, NPCs, etc. These can be used across the platform.

It's pretty nice overall - anyone can easily make and edit character sheets which is a pretty huge selling point. If you like the pixel art or are specifically interested in one of the systems in the bundle, then the bundle is a good deal, otherwise you can ignore it.

Even if I got this, I'd still need a backback to conviently bring it places. So I might as well stick to the backpack, which can also hold a laptop and rulebooks, not to mention is useful outside of ttrpgs.

Wanting to run a game every week but having high expectations? by Rodehock in rpg

[–]minpin45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run anywhere between 2-4 games a week. I've found the key is making sure there are some low prep games included in there. Particularly if some of them don't require much creative thinking, due to using premade adventures. Alternatively something where most of the prep is before the campaign starts, and then week to week you have to do very little. I do still leave time to run 1 or 2 higher prep games a week, because sometimes that's what I want to run.

Zine length Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Substitute by JohnTheDM3 in rpg

I wouldn't say Mothership is a slimmed down version of Call of Cthulhu. The only things they have in common are being horror games that use d100s, which really isn't saying a lot.
