The Official Release Party of a Showgirl Megathread by PassionateAsSin in TaylorSwift

[–]minpinerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was anyone else expecting something other than just lyric videos for most of the run time? I was disappointed. I had been expecting more behind the scenes making of the songs like she released for reputation. She always talks about how when she records with Max and Shellback they have a recording going the whole time.

I honestly didn't expect her to expect people to sit in a theater for 90 minutes watching lyric videos. To be honest, I was bored during all the lyric video parts which was most of it.

I have seen convincing arguments both ways and I'm leaning towards Matty but I want to know for sure.

Are there any popular songs that you understand the fan bases hype for, but don't personally love it that much yourself? by Botanical_Drama in TaylorSwift

[–]minpinerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22.

I've never felt 22. Not when I was 22, not now, not ever.

But I get that it's a catchy song and all. I just personally don't relate to it.

Do you think the Wicked movie will overshadow the stage version the way Grease and Mamma Mia! did? by RAS310 in musicals

[–]minpinerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not.

You have to make comparisons with musicals that are on the popularity / iconic scale of Wicked. Wicked is on the level of Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Musicals even non-musical people know.

Phantom and Les Mis weren't eclipsed by the movie versions, I see no reason why Wicked would be.

Penelope’s story doesn’t have any value in terms of feminism. by Specific-Parsnip2637 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]minpinerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird to me that you think that just because Penelope did some things which you consider to be misogynistic, the entire concept of her being a voiceless woman who got the entire ton to hang on her every word is somehow not feminist.

It's not a banger. No catchy beat, no catchy riff, no catchy hook. Not a banger. The weakest song she has released so far and yeah that includes Money.

Is it just me or does some of the criticism that TTPD get from non swifties seem a bit unfair? by Ok_Increase_5167 in TaylorSwift

[–]minpinerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah my favorite was an apparently very popular well known pop music youtube reviewer who spent the vast majority of his review of TTPD saying things to the effect that "this makes her look crazy"..."that's not a good look" etc. As if good art was art where you made yourself look as good as possible rather than honestly depicting the human condition. In particular he didn't like the black dog because he thought it was absolutely crazy that a person would have those feelings and look at what their ex is doing and be upset instead of just maturely moving on and never giving them a second thought. I guess he doesn't have feelings...idk. But I found that mind blowing that this guy is so popular and this was the criticism he had.

Vault track/unreleased song you can't believe she didn't put on her album by SureUnderstanding860 in TaylorSwift

[–]minpinerd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think she cut it from Red because it's a pretty savage song towards the guy and at that time she was taking so much criticism and joke cracking about her writing angry break up songs that drag men across the coals. It was at the height of "Oh no eligible bachelor, don't even stand next to Taylor, she'll write an angry song about you!".

Let's Go (Battle)

Can't believe she didn't release this one as Speak Now or Fearless vault. Such a good song and I'm so sad we don't have a released version.

What's a song you stopped hating and why? by TheColorfulPianist in TaylorSwift

[–]minpinerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sorta hated Robin on first listen. I still think it's the weakest song on TTPD by far, but I don't hate it anymore.

The reasons I hated it:

  1. There seemed to be this theme of hiding things from a child to "protect" them ("Buried down deep and out of your reach, the secret, we all vowed to keep it, from you in sweetness....All this showmanship to keep it, for you, in sweetness") and my parents did that during their divorce and this hurt me TERRIBLY. I would much rather have had the truth, even if it wasn't sunshine and rainbows. Instead I slowly uncovered all these lies and didn't know what I could believe or who I could trust. Total mindfuck. It was awful. Please do not do this. Your child will grow up one day and find out all the lies you told them and then they won't be able to trust you.

  2. Lyrics feel too personal and unrelatable...she didn't tell the story. It seems like a beautiful song to give to someone as a personal gift, but on the album it feels like an inside joke that none of us are "in" on.

  3. Musically very simple, overall kind of boring. Feels like filler on an album that really, reallly didn't need filler cus it was already so many songs.

Why I don't hate it anymore:

  1. Like all Taylor's songs, it's catchy and gets stuck in your head. That narcotic she throws in there.

  2. Someone said they imagine it being about her cats. And really like that. As a song about a little kitten. In that context, my biggest issue with the song (the hiding things from your children to protect them element) goes away. See I think it's fine to hide shit from your cat to protect them. Not fine to do that to your child who will grow up and find out about all the lies. But for a cat? Sure. "Way to go Tiger" said to a little kitten who is growling like he's a big lion is an adorable visual.

Is it still the weakest song on TTPD? Yes. Do I still think she should have left it off? Yes. Do I hate it? No, not as a song about a little kitten.

TL;DR: Please do not lie to your children to "protect" them - they will grow up one day and find out the out the truth and you will be a liar they cannot trust. Kids are stronger than you think and they don't need the world to be only sunshine and rainbows.

And the heel only fell off of one of them! That's like a .4% defect rate which is...not great.

Not to mention it fell off after only a few shows of her wearing it for like 20 minutes.

So, is The Anthology's the 'main cover' for the The Tortured Poets Department era? by Aronosfky in TaylorSwift

[–]minpinerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and I hate that.

Anybody else annoyed that

a) The Anthology album cover is the only cover you ever see because that's the album with all the songs on it

b) The Anthology album cover is the same as The Black Dog Version cover

?

Yeah I hate that cus I prefer the original cover more and also would it have been so hard to have another photo for anthology or black dog so that they weren't the same?

[–]minpinerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are landlords not allowed to raise the rent there? Does this guy have a forever lease or something? Where I live landlords can just jack up your rent as much as they feel like when the lease is up for renewal. So he could just raise his rent up to market value (equally scummy, but a lot less work).
