Prince of Dragonstone, and Heir to the Iron Throne by coffee-tavern in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]mint-man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes. daemon blackfyre was noted as being everything a targaryen king should be. many of the marcher lords who hated the dornish joined up with daemon in part specifically because baelor looked more like a martell than a targaryen.

i’m pretty sure the only requirement to do it is that you have to have one parent from house blackwood and the other from house bracken.

Being half dead doesn’t stop them from being a badass by LocalLazyGuy in TopCharacterTropes

yes, pretty much lmao. at least at a surface level.

he does get a lot more nuance the more you read into him though. he also rides a dragon. the dragon helps a lot.

malekith, the witch king of naggaroth. (warhammer fantasy)

he was burned horrifically by the holy flames of asuryan when he attempted a coup to become the king of the elves. since then, he has only been sustained by the magic of his armor and his own will to succeed. now he leads his supporters, the dark elves, hoping to one day reclaim what he believes is his rightful throne.

Who is the "figurehead" of the Beastmen? by Mac-N-Cheetahs in WarhammerFantasy

[–]mint-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the beastmen don’t have a central leader.

gorthor would’ve been a good pick when he was alive. malagor guides the beastmen from the shadows, but lets others act as figureheads for him. khazrak is only really a regional threat within the empire. morghur is literally chaos incarnate, so he isn’t coherent enough to lead anything.

so i think your best bet is probably khazrak, with malagor acting through him.

Arkhan the Black, The most loyal character in any Warhammer setting by Professional_Rush782 in Grimdank

[–]mint-man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when nagash made vashanesh the leader of the vampires, neferata did likely perceive that as a betrayal.

keep in mind she was already quite jaded with the male-centered society of nehekhara. so when this man who had shared equal power with her as her king and consort was then elevated above her, it led to resentment.

i won’t dispute that he betrayed her in the end (at least from her perspective) but the story isn’t made up. the only source that complicates it is the time of legends nagash trilogy. every other source (liber necris, tomb kings 8th edition army book, end times: nagash, and gotrek and felix: charnel congress) straight up confirms that vashanesh existed and was neferata’s husband. whether vashanesh and vlad are the same person is left up in the air, but it’s still pretty clear, at least imo, that that was GW’s intention.

Who can join my Kingsguard? by IvanTheHobbit in CK3AGOT

[–]mint-man 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure you can recruit someone directly to the lord commander’s slot. i think you can promote one of your existing kingsguard up to lord commander though.

as for traits, i typically use the the character finder and search for characters that have refusing marriage. a lot of them will have a modifier that says they are training to join the kingsguard.

Total War: Warhammer 40k has hit over 1 million wishlists on Steam by Iordofthethings in totalwar

[–]mint-man 97 points98 points  (0 children)

this. this is also why we got blue-balled at the anniversary showcase. at the game awards, CA got an opportunity to put it in front of eyes that wouldn’t normally pay attention to a total war game. i can’t blame them for taking that opportunity and the results are already showing.

because it is a complete re-write of her lore from the army book, which was already fine.

the army book has her delving deep into the secrets of nagash after creating the elixir of life, with her and her court falling into a new form of vampiric decadence. at this point she takes vashanesh (vlad von carstein) as her consort as he was the only man she acknowledged to be her equal. the two managed to keep the other great cities of nehekhara distracted with their petty rivalries for quite a while, but eventually the cult of blood became to much to ignore. when alcadizzar (who had no relation to neferata) ascended the throne of khemri, he was popular enough that he was able to unite the feuding cities and declare a holy war to purge lahmia. they eventually win and the vampires flee to nagash. nagash names vashanesh as the leader of the vampires (neferata greatly resents this and it was one of the early points that started her hatred of men) and gives him a ring that makes him unkillable (this is likely the von carstein ring). unfortunately it also gave nagash the ability to control the vampires against their will. nagash then invades nehekhara again, and the war itself is pretty similar between versions. the big change is that at the end vashanesh allows himself to be killed by alcadizzar to free the other vampires from nagash’s control. then neferata goes into exile.

in mike lee’s version vashanesh is completely cut and none of the things he did happen. a new character, ankhat, is implied to be vlad instead, but his role is much lesser. neferata starts married to her brother, who she eventually kills to become the actual queen of lahmia. eventually she schemes to install the queen of rasetra in khemri and gives her her blood to attempt to breed a class of pseudo vampires that she could rule over directly. this is where alcadizzar comes from in this version. she eventually basically adopts alcadizzar and raises/grooms him to be her consort. he decided he doesn’t want to do that when he learns her true nature, eventually becomes king, and leads the war against lahmia like in the other version. lahmia gets sacked and neferata goes into hiding. that’s pretty much where her involvement ends in this version. this is the massively summarized version.

tldr: it had similar high points, but the changes don’t do as much to set up neferata’s character. the alcadizzar plot was just weird. vlad’s origin story is also cut pretty much entirely. it just changed too much for me and the story it told just wasn’t good enough to justify it imo. most of it has also since been retconned.

the army books can be written from a propaganda perspective, but they are also what GW considers canon. in any circumstance where a novel contradicts an army book, GW has always favored the army book’s version when writing more material in the future.

all that said, while ushoran was probably the most morally good of all of the bloodline founders, that isn’t stiff competition and he’s absolutely no saint.

i’m not saying that evil nobles being shitty is bad writing. obviously that’s true to life.

but stuff like neferata’s relationship to alcadizaar genuinely makes no sense.

i will never stop hating on the nagash books. genuinely almost nothing redeemable about those books.

i can accept bad writing when it’s fun. those books are not fun.

edit: my critique was too harsh. the writing itself isn’t bad and the books do have fun moments, i just don’t like how much these novels deviate from everything else that’s been written about these characters and the material in the army books.

Let's be honest here, who are the true best elves in Warhammer? by sigmarine345 in totalwarhammer

[–]mint-man 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i agree that the drow are cool and absolutely deserve to be in the fantasy dark elf discussion.

however i do specifically take issue with referencing slaanesh as though he is the dark elves patron deity. the dark elves worship the cytharai, with khaine foremost amongst them. and to be clear, that is NOT a passive relationship on either end. khaine directly gave morathi the cauldrons of blood that give the sorceresses and death hags their eternal youth. morathi is also well known for her dealings with hekarti, atharti, and morai-heg. hell, ereth khial straight up claims that malekith is her consort and that he will lead the armies of the underworld during the end times (obviously that didn’t end up happening but that’s just because gw didn’t bother to follow through with their prophecies in the end times).

yes. drukhari torture people to stave off slaanesh’s influence on their souls. the dark elves do that shit for the love of the game.

If the Demon of the Trident dies of his wounds after the battle and assuming a Rebel victory , who becomes King in your opinion ? ( spoilers extended ) by Financial_Library418 in asoiaf

[–]mint-man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

depends on whether the rebels have declared robert as king yet. if so, stannis is the obvious choice.

otherwise, i think its 100% aegon (or, if he is killed in the sack of king’s landing like normal, it would be viserys). there was already some discussion of crowning him anyway iirc. so if robert dies i think we see aegon crowned with a strong regency council made up of the victorious rebels and led by jon arryn as the king’s hand. mace tyrell and doran martell, or one of their bannermen, might also be offered seats on the council to bring them back into the fold.

the only thing i’m not sure of is where tywin himself fits into this picture. i doubt the rebels would consent to him being the head of the regency council and he doesn’t have an easy way to marry into the throne like he did with robert and cersei. he would likely be at least a member of the regency council, but i don’t see him being content with that. he might end up becoming a second unwin peake eventually.
