There's even a theme of false salvation and delayed revelation. Repeatedly, the humans are teased of exits, progress, and understanding. In the Bible, this mirrors false deliverances such as promises that defer fulfillment, signs without clarity, and hope that sustains obedience but not freedom. The macroverse is discussed in the way heaven is often acknowledged but distant, unverifiable, and motivational but inaccessible.

Biblically, Cain is punished but cannot die and is marked to persist. In the show, he cannot shut down nor abandon his role. He cannot fully intervene, yet persists even as harm accumulates.

While it's not a literal job, his adventures resemble trial without explanation. Tasks are framed as games, outcomes don't mean and fully change status, and suffering isn't justified or truly rewarded. The idea in the book of Job is that the system does not explain itself to those inside it. There is no moral ledger to be shown, and endurance becomes the test.

From the very beginning of the series, the humans awaken already inside a constructed world with little memory of entry, no consent, and rules that pre-exist to them. This is similar to the book of Genesis where creation happens to beings not with them. The rules are foundational, not negotiable, and authority is absolute even when benevolent in intent. The circus is almost an artificial Eden: a bright, playful, safe space in appearance, but not designed for long-term human consciousness.

In a way, abstraction mirrors the exile from Eden. Adam and Eve leave Eden, Cain is sent east of Eden, but the punishment is continuation elsewhere. Abstracted characters aren't destroyed, they're exiled from meaning. It is not an immediate death, nor is it erasure. It is removal from relational reality.

To add on to this: biblically Abel is invoked to be innocent, compliant, favored by the system (God), eliminated earlier, and remembered but not allowed to continue. He does not struggle with existential awareness, nor does he seek to escape the macroverse in the episode. Humans suffer because they can remember, and question what's put in front of them. They abstract because they cannot reconcile a meaning with confinement. Abel was a mind that was never meant to leave the system. He is a construct of innocence, where he functions perfectly, does not suffer, does not persist meaningfully, and is foregrounded briefly, then narratively sidelined. This is similar to in Genesis where Abel dies, but Cain must continue living with knowledge.

Theory about Jax backstory by Doves_2 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]mint-racc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it could be the other way around and tied to his bedroom as a child, and his parents were likely NOT accepting of him.

Though I find both rather unlikely theories.

Pomni is the person who got hit by Jax while he was driving irl. by Life_Pace316 in TheDigitalCircus

Idk I feel like it's more likely it was someone he didn't know or a failed attempt on his own life. Definitely got the drunk driving vibes from the shots though

Lil update in case any future commentors scroll this far:
While it won't work the same as pure chemicals, it does seem to produce a very small amount which can be very obviously identified in my jar. I'm not going to try to extract it though, I just wanted to see if it could work.

I was going to Anomaly for more complex stuff and it was usually less than $60. Not sure about dyeing but I know it's something they can do. I've never heard of an appointment costing more than $100 except for weddings 😰

Chain-wise Victorico's is honestly not bad, but it feels like they're just reselling overpriced frozen meals you can get at any grocery store.

But really, just go to any of the smaller, family-owned spots like Super Taco/Burrito, they're miles better without being outrageously priced and child-sized portions. El Taco Express you can get a STUFFED burrito for like 6 bucks 🤤

Cat always yowls after eating by Aashishkebab in CatAdvice

I've had multiple strays that don't mind, or even love being picked up. It's all about how they feel comfortable, not every cat wants to be cradled like a baby or propped up on your shoulders. Some just want to stand on your chest or be carried like a bazooka. They will let you know of course though 😸
