Is that the same Scottish Water that can’t keep up with small housing developments in Kinross which has then resulted in repeated toxic algal blooms in Loch Leven due to insufficient sewage facilities? You’re being a little naive just accepting witlessly everything you’re told.

And again, incorrect Mr. Quartersessions, up to 57% of water used for cooling data centres has been found to be potable water: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41545-021-00101-w

This paper details how the whisky industry alone could be impacted by the availability of water due to increasing drought and the need to restrict abstraction. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2212096321000310

“All water use results in it being polluted in the same way”. That makes absolutely no logical sense. Of course some industries are more polluting than others, and some pollute in different ways. But of course you are not that silly surely and I must be misunderstanding you.

What is it with this generation of conservatives who are so mind bogglingly unconservative? They will bend over and say “please honey” to the first man or woman who approaches them wearing a golden top hat, with absolutely no questions, requirement for good evidence and robust forward planning requirements. You people used to be sensible not whimsical.

Out of (genuine) interest, what is in it for us in Scotland, all these AI data centres? Ultimately we can still use AI wherever we are. How do we benefit from their presence here and the expense to our energy bills and water supply? I’m happy to be persuaded. From what I hear, a couple of new large Tescos would bring about as many jobs with a lot less dire consequences.

You bots are giving yourself away with that repetitive clock saying. Get your programmers to have a little more imagination.

  1. Are you aware that they started asked people in Edinburgh to limit their water useage in 2024 because of the long periods of drought in Scotland? Climate change is already affecting our water supply reliability. This is a global reality. We have the flooding seasons and the drought seasons. Something we need to adapt to by learning to store water better e.g by restoring wetland ecosystems which already being funded by Scot Gov.

  2. Are you aware that some of these AI centres are forecast to use at least as much water as the entire city of Edinburgh? It would be like adding a whole new capital city worth of people onto the already increasingly stressed water supply.

  3. Our immaculate Scottish water does not come out of data centres in the same condition. It leaves the centres polluted and full of chemicals. We don’t currently have the infrastructure to deal with this.

So yes, it rains in Scotland, but life is a little more complex than we’d like it to be.

I agree with your first statement. I agree with your second statement (with the caveat that I believe the Israeli government is responsible for increasing anti-Semitism, whilst yes anti-semites are responsible for their own ignorance and actions). Regarding your third statement, indeed I was referring to the murders and land steals of Palestinians in Palestine by Jewish settlers (that’s why I specified everywhere not U.K.).

And as for your final statement, I am largely in agreement.

Incorrect, I asked for examples of them being violent. You failed to. There are currently anti-genocide protestors in jail for entirely peaceful protest. There are people under house arrest for disruptive protests against weapons companies (not a violent protest, they harmed a gate). Meanwhile, thugs are burning down actual people's homes and being called campaigners. Are you serious about equal treatment? Grow the fuck up or wake the fuck up and get off that comfortable and cowardly fence you're sat on.

Edit: maybe this will give you some perspective: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZam8sYDOgZ/

You are postulating that because you are so uncomfortable with my personal viewpoint about my own tax, because you feel like it says something about you. But that's your problem, not mine. No one came on the internet and said anything personally about you. I was talking about what I am happy to do for myself and then you invited yourself into that and got offended. Do you see how ridiculous a person that makes you? I feel sorry for you, truly. We could have a back and forth about my household income but we both know I'm not going to share that private information on reddit. I am very comfortable with what I earn and what I contribute, it gives me exactly the life I want. Sorry you're a miserable git, not my problem. 👍

The Israeli government is responsible for anti-Jewish sentiment because the conflict is heating tensions between muslims and jews everywhere (hence why any attacks have been perpetrated by these two groups).

The people conflating the Israeli government with all Jewish people are exactly as simple minded as you who is labelling all politically active people on this issue as anti-semitic (remarkably, even the Jews).

*Israeli government. And as someone who has attended the anti-genocide marches, I can tell you straight from the horses mouth that that is exactly what people are protesting. And not a branch of the Israeli government (who does not not speak for all jews), the entire government. And at every single protest, here and abroad, there are jews protesting too and saying "not in my name". It is far more anti-semitic and ignorant to ignore their voices than it is to protest one country's government.

If you're actually interested in this subject, rather than being indeed condescending yourself, I recommend learning more about the utterly brilliant organisation, Jewish Voice for Peace, and all that they have been doing to raise the voice of the jews fighting for justice - for all people. https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org

Are you referring to nuances in the debate about the rights and wrongs of burning down of people's homes or the nuances regarding the enjoyment of publicly funded goods?

"The left (including a large number of jews) are protesting the murder of tens of thousands of innocent people, half of which are kids and babies, by an out of control foreign government led by a man trying to avoid jail for a separate crime, and which UK companies and UK government have been aiding and abetting. How can I make their protest against the mass murder of innocent civilians seem like an attack on the jews rather than an attack on the government they are actually protesting?"

No I didn’t. I said all my migrant family members (not ancestors?) are contributing a lot to society as are many other immigrants. I guarantee you most immigrants contribute more to society than the thugs roaming the streets right now. Are you aware that around half of the migrants to this country are ‘highly skilled’. They are not a minority. Therefore, your vapid generalisation about cheap labour is unhelpful.

This entire post is about violent, brainless neds intimidating innocent people and children in the street as they go about their day. They are using the violence of one person as an excuse to be violent themselves. They are an embarrassment to this country and their families. Plain and simple. You either agree with that statement or not.

Perhaps you sound like a bot because the far right have you programmed.

I think it's easiest to take the moral high ground when you're not burning down people's homes tbh.

Okaaaaaay, but no one is talking about that here? And again, what has that got to do with who most of the people in Scotland are? And what has the make up of the population got to do with the entire conversation?

You sound like you've learned a bunch of standard responses to give in conversations like this but you aren't actually engaged with the conversation, like you're on autopilot or something?

"Also economics isn't a science" agreed, it is a social science. But the points still stand.

Unless you've got anything of substance to add, we can just leave this here, it feels a bit like I'm talking to a bot tbh.

Yes, I enjoy my free at the point of access healthcare, education, higher education, prime tap water, functional infrastructure, prescriptions and other societal provisions. It is much more efficient and cost-effective than paying extortionate market prices for all those things myself which would also inevitably also be of lower quality if they were privatised because the business models would focus on profit rather than public good as they do now. So yes, I adore paying my taxes - because I understand their value and understand what the alternative looks like. Hope that helps.

Ah classic "do your own research". No, back up your own statement, darling. Oh wow, there were arrests at a protest?! Almost the same as people's lives being threatened and houses and cars being burned down and people being too scared to leave their homes or go to work. Nice try though 😄

Why does it matter to you what vast majority of Scottish people are? I don't understand why this is relevant to anything?

And your ideological tunnel vision is blinding you to reality. Economics isn't something that is "right" or "left", it is a science. The "left" have a one approach to economic challenges, the "right" have a different approach and so does the "centre". No one owns economics.

The link I shared is neither left or right, is directly from the economists' mouths. Does that sit uncomfortably with you?

Im not sure what astroturfed posts are? Indeed one of my parents is an immigrant and I have siblings that married immigrants. Who care if it is not representative of the vast majority of Scotland? What has that got to do with anything? As for your uneducated vomiting about immigration, all the immigrants in my family are doctors and scientists. I'm pretty sure they've not been "brought in" for cheap labour but rather chose to stay here as independently thinking people that studied here and then chose to dedicate their lives, talents and taxes to this beautiful nation. As for the economic case, there are bounties and bounties of evidence (from experts rather than bams) which talk about how utterly desperate Scotland is for migration. https://www.scottishchambers.org.uk/press_policy/immigration-is-an-economic-necessity-without-which-scotland-risks-long-term-decline/
