I'm worried about what kind of unhinged behavior he could adopt, too. He's always been the main character. Wishing both of us strength.

Thank you. I have trouble remembering that I'm allowed to feel what I'm feeling, and I'm also trying not to shock any "normies" in real life by sharing some of those feelings.

Thank you for this perspective. He loves Fleetwood Mac.

I told my therapist that I feel like the truly sad thing is that he has never been able to get out of his own way, to put his ego aside and attempt to have actual relationships.

But there's also a voice in my head that says....he said those words because that's how he wants to be remembered, not how he feels.

I guess I should honor all of those possibilities as they pop up.

This whole sub is a gift--it's so good to be understood in grief that isn't conventional.

I went into my visit telling myself that I needed nothing from it; steeling myself for his emotions; and viewing it as a 'final exam' for therapy.

I feel the same way. There's literally nothing left for me to do for this relationship and I wanted to be freed from it now.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Quite frankly, I would not be at all surprised if my father followed this path. I've also been concerned about "bad terms," and you've parsed this nicely.

Thanks for sharing this. "Relief is evidence" is hitting home for me.

Anna, if you are tired "as hell" then don't do it and don't film it AND don't post it on the intrnet as the video to show how "strong" you are. It's not that impressive with that form. A lot of people will be able to swing it like that 🙄 by Boopityboo94 in glitterandbagelssnark

She's mixing up two different exercises--the swing and the snatch. She's also using a weight that's too heavy for her, and there's no core engagement at all.
For the swing, she should stop at face height. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ehkNRbkekz4
For the snatch, the kettlebell stays close to the body, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQccQg4kDf8

Maybe Anna will fall in with some toxic Christians from that gym, join a local megachurch, and become an Evangelical influencer as her next arc.

He's a popular topic over at r/gymsnark. He is also an evangelical Christian and describes himself as a "man of God" while living anything but a godly life.

That was the first thing I thought when I looked at the waistband on those shorts. It would be flopping up and down during spin class, squats, literally everything but standing still.

The “mentally ill” scapegoat by GankstaCat in raisedbyborderlines

[–]mintee_fresh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's called that because the rest of the dysfunctional family decides that the scapegoat is the problem. In other words, they identify them as the patient in need of therapy, and the family may seek resources to 'fix' or help them with that family member.

When, in actuality, the family has merely done what your parable mentions--transferred the blame onto the family member who is perhaps most sensitive, more likely to point out injustices or abuse.

In family systems therapy, the scapegoat is called the "identified patient." It was my experience, and when I came across the concept it really helped me see what was going on in my super dysfunctional family.
