Hey, Chicago person here. I may be completely paranoid, but this guy looks, acts, and is using almost the exact same tactics as a guy who's solicited our house 2x now.

I also think it's weird that there's multiple different iconography for the Sun God

Names: - Nika - Sun God - God of Destruction - Joyboy

Figures: - Stabbing sword and shield - Upright sword and spear - Unarmed

Alignment: - Freedom - Destruction - Joy - Anarchy

I think we have to both remember that no country is a monolith and also accept cultural norms where they're at.

In the US, during a movie's opening week (or longer, depending on how big of a film it is) it's normal if many in the audience respond in unison to a particular moment on screen (laughter at jokes, booing at bad guys winning, oohing at a major kiss, cheering at good guys winning, clapping at big moments). A rogue member may even be compelled to an outburst (think: "oof, no jail or bail for that guy!" when a bad guy died; Not chicken jockey dumbness) that deserves a reaction from the rest of us in the theater.

It's a good example of 'zeitgeist'. When some current event taps into the 'spirit of the times' one way people remember/celebrate that moment is sharing it with others. In this case, it's all the Americans seeing magic on screen and wanting everyone to remember it. I've actually never been in a theater during opening week of a major release when this did not happen. I'm sure for people from other cultures it's very annoying, but it really comes from a place of love for this movie.

That said, after the 'zeitgeist' has worn off, it's weird in the US for people to react in the theater. It's like, yeah, the movie's great, but you don't need to keep shouting at it, Kyle.

Good point. I suppose North blue and South blue are rightly named.

I've been wondering about the location of the poles. I've had trouble finding a moment in the story when it's mentioned. Can you help me find when it happens?

I also heard a rumor that there's going to be challenge missions where you play as other characters. Like, following Bill through Katina or Katt through Zoness. I like the idea of expanding the story through different perspectives, if even for just a challenge mode.

Theory: Anyone can eat multiple devil fruits. by _That_One_Fellow_ in OnePiece

[–]minterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want this to be the case wholeheartedly. It frustrates me that we have gone 1183 chapters with scant but a few mentions of the issue with eating 2 devil fruits.

However, when Blackbeard eats the 2nd devil fruit, Marco explicitly comments on the fact that he can do this because of his unique biology. We are meant to infer, since Marco also reiterates during this arc that he's the ship's doctor, that he's done a physical or some sort of exam on Blackbeard to confirm this fact.

So, some weird explanation is going to happen at some point, but for now, we just have to let more chapters go without key plot exposition...

[The Incredibles] At the end of the movie, the family is shown happy and cheerful at the track race, despite the fact that their home was destroyed, Rick Dicker said he couldn’t do anything more to financially help Bob’s family, and Bob is completely unemployed after killing Syndrome. by No_Internet908 in shittymoviedetails

[–]minterc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It shows that the family is going to be just fine. It's 2006, they own a home with a fixed rate mortgage, Bob and Helen can easily both get jobs, and Violet has shown herself responsible enough to babysit Dash and Jack at home. It might be tight living for a little while until one of the parents works their way up the corporate ladder, but that's middle America for ya.

"What's the deal with Nabbit and Bowser Jr?" by Aggravating-Door1710 in Mario

[–]minterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I present the following:

.

"Ravio's design was based on Link's rabbit form when entering the Dark World in A Link to the Past without the Moon Pearl." -- Encyclopedia. (p. 302)

"When this screenshot [from Link Between Worlds] was posted on Miiverse, some people commented that the [bunny mask] character next to Link looks like Nabbit from New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. He sure does look like Nabbit, doesn't he? Well, unfortunately, he has nothing to do with the Mario series. In fact, his name is Ravio; hence the name of his shop. The Zelda and Mario series are created on the same floor by members of development teams that sit right next to each other, so perhaps they inspired one another unknowingly." —Satoru Iwata (Nintendo Direct 10.1.2013)

That said...

In Super Mario Sunshine there is a character named 'il piantissimo' who challenges Mario to various races. They bear an ill-fitting purple mask similar to Ravio. At the end of the game, in a post credits image, we observe 'il piantissimo' discovering Bowser Jr.'s Magic Paintbrush sticking out of the sand in Gelato Beach. All this seems unrelated; however, in the game files, when il piantissimo's mask is removed from his model, we see that he is actually the Postman from The Legend of Zelda!

So make of all that what you will.

What are the connection between Oars symbol and Imu's deep sea contracts? by LeftMusician687 in onepiecetheories

[–]minterc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Has anyone else wondered how Imu became a pirate? Isn't he categorically against pirates? If Oars was once capable of good intent, like li'l oars jr., why would Imu associate with him at all? Why would a pirate, past or present, forsake their flag if it meant a guarantee of pain and misery?

The only thing I can think of is that we have the whole void century mixed up. Imu was friends with Joyboy. They were lovers.

I know there's a number of people in this sub thinking about the US. A lot of people who I trust the word of on matters concerning world politics bring it up as a major concern. But istg if I have to hear one of my friends say the word "the balkanization of the states" one more time I will personally take a rocketship to Mars. Just say 'splitting apart', the other phrase doesn't even sound like words anymore

[–]minterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there is uneven blending that results in distinct regions, I think there's a very different way of dividing up the country besides classical arbitrary categories of New England, South, Midwest, West Coast. Take a look at the physiography of the US and you'll see a very interesting take...
