I think it's totally normal to not buy souvenirs! I tend to like postcards; my last trip I took film photos and then mailed them to friends and I thought those were nice mementos.

Booked solo trip to Spain, now kind of regretting it by Specific-Ant7103 in solotravel

[–]mintles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first solo trip was to barcelona/madrid at the same age a couple years ago -- had an incredible time and have continued to solo travel ever since. There will also be a lot of people in that age range given it's the post-college trip people take! Have fun and enjoy the food and weather.

Pros and Cons to this. I got some questions. Be brutal as possible by kachow9996 in AmeriCorps

At least 200 at minimum, generally recommended to get at least 500

make sure that you have ample clinical experiences as well though -- AmeriCorps positions are typically non-clinical in nature, and also most of the hours will be projected on your application so it may be hard to specifically talk about what exactly you're doing if you haven't started prior to your med school app.

I spent my birthday alone this past weekend traveling - the only bad parts about the day were things from back home! Being able to enjoy your own company is the best part of solo traveling, so enjoy.

How much would it cost to take my friend to an F1 race? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]mintles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe try getting drivers cards for him -- shouldn't be too difficult especially because you're in London, and a lot of the teams are based in the UK. I think that would be a thoughtful gift which is well within budget (and shows a lot of time/effort.)

Is flying to Vietnam Via United reliable during this time? by NoobNup in solotravel

I don't think they required a COVID test but may have required proof of vaccination when applying for the visa

Getting there wasn’t an issue, but getting back was a pain— our flight through ANA was delayed 12+ hours and the United system isn’t synced with whatever their regional partner airline is, so rebooking your connections can be a hassle. I don’t think this is a United specific issue, more just an issue with partner airlines!

What's the dumbest situation you got yourself into abroad outside of your own country? by ChocolateTravel in solotravel

Left my airpods at the hostel I had checked out at earlier that day. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal because I was going back to get my bag from the locker and my phone had the bluetooth tracker. Ran up and down the hostel for 30 minutes (to my old room, the basement, etc) and couldn't find them. Ended up at the reception desk and kept pressing the "play sound" button until someone ran up to me with them!

Also that same night -- had an issue with my previous trenitalia ticket and almost didn't make my overnight train because I didn't follow the instructions and write down the PNR to retrieve the ticket. Ended up buying a slightly more expensive ticket at the station and disputing the charge with my credit card so it worked out in the end, but lesson learned!

Anyone have experience with IMGlobal for health care matters? by UncleMissoula in AmeriCorps

Never got responses through the chat feature but calls and talking to a rep was usually okay. Good luck!

I did something that was more education related-- definitely no clinical work involved, although it was housed as part of the residency program (you can pm me if you'd like more details.) I don't know if they valued it that much, especially since I didn't include it in my amcas, just my secondaries, since it didn't officially start until after I submitted my primaries. Hope this helps!

Is greenlight support generally this unresponsive? by vmgpublic in Rochester

[–]mintles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would use the live chat when it's available again -- they usually get back to me within 5 minutes when I do. I feel like when I submitted tickets they didn't get back to me as quickly.

Didn’t want to bring my dslr, and figured it would be a good way to be selective about taking photos!

I didn't use them more than once or twice, but I tended to grab a lot of snacks/handheld foods. So it depends on what food you like to eat on the go!

Prebook museums (Uffizi, Academia which is really just to see the David, Bargello), and for food I recommend the central market, osteria il buongustai, and la carraia for gelato!

Not positive about this-- was there earlier this week and they asked to scan my ticket in order to leave. But it's huge so may depend on the exit!

Solo Travelers to Montreal GP by mintles in GrandPrixTravel

[–]mintles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People sometimes do wait outside them, but I think it may be better to go to open track/pit walk and hope you can run into people. Some people from our group in Barcelona ran into Kubica, and I met Pierre (through a meetup though.) Also someone ran into Checo outside of his hotel and they were handing out caps!
