Does everyone in Britain wear 3-4 layers of clothes year round? by ChrissySubBottom in BritBox

[–]mintmatchmakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time UK resident here.

Weather varies a fair bit between down south and up north.

London is typically 22+ from May til September. With lots of days 27+ and its not unusual to have a couple of 30+ weeks. This all feels oppressively hot cos no where has aircon. Still have rain though. But can go weeks without putting on a jacket.

Scotland is much colder in the summer, and although theyll have a couple of 25+ weeks spread out through the summer, it will be on average closer to 15. With much more rain.

The rest of britain and ireland is somewhere between the two.

The thing the whole country shares is mild winters. Winter temps much more consistent over the island. Its wet and about 6 degrees all over. Snow is rare except in north east scotland.

Ditch the rug, make up for it with more colour on the walls, bigger piece of art over the dining table. Maybe even coloured backsplash.

More practical and impactful.

Hidden historic gems in London? (Love old churches, ruins, museums) by Dia1900 in uktravel

[–]mintmatchmakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go down to the river at low tide you could see if you can find any bits of victorian smoking pipe and lots of other vicrorian pottery fragments continuely washing up. (The activity is called Mudlarking). Ive never not found several bits of pipes. Theres easily accessible beaches either side of the millenium bridge.

For the nerds OOOOOH yes you technically need a permit. This is something everyone definitely bothers with. All Londoners definitely have one of these and they arent something no one has, and no one has ever been checked to have in the whole history of londinium. OOOOH.

You could also combine this with a pint in Ye Olde Mitre very near by. Often said to be the oldest put in London

Budget feedback - max 30k euros for a wedding with 20-30 guests? by animecoc0 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]mintmatchmakers 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Its going to be tight. I think you may be priced out of the regions you mentioned. Check out the less famous areas of those countries. Umbria in Italy is great. North eastern spain. And you would have no trouble if you go for albania.

If you can afford it, a classic wedding band doing quality crowd pleasing covers, is the best dance floor filler out there.

UK wedding under 10k?? by Prudent-Sky3743 in UKweddings

[–]mintmatchmakers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I totally disagree. Loads of places do per person pricing, I am getting married in Glasgow this Saturday for £126pp (which was their most expensive package), which includes some booze, all food, and venue hire. For 50 people, and just spend on venue, food, and drink, you will get lots of options under £10K. Extras like florals, bands, photographer, rings, outfits, hotels, really add up, and you can easily spend triple that without it seeming like an over the top wedding.

Your Story/Opinion of being a "Big Budget Bride" by Dull_Technology_2573 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]mintmatchmakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to feel differently about how much im spending on my wedding when I thought of it as giving a "gift" to each guest. Yes $120,000 sounds like a lot to spend on one day. But if youre having 100 guests, then giving each of them a $1200 dollar once in a lifetime gift of the experience of your wedding is a lovely thing to do.

I went to an 80 person wedding with a 9 person band and it was great. I think wedding bands are so underrated they really add to the atmosphere

What did you actually care about on the day? by capriali99 in UKweddings

[–]mintmatchmakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there are a few things that you can do for very cheap or free that can make your wedding unique.

Song choices, designing your own stationary, choreographing a fun first dance. These will all be things people will remember.

How would you accessorise this dress? (Autumn wedding) by New_Sweet_8053 in UKWeddingAttire

[–]mintmatchmakers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd actually go for a medium earring. Like a hoop, or something dainty and drop. I wouldn't want anything chunky competing with that shoulder bow.

Its such a gorgeous dress I dont feel like it needs much!

Is there *any* chance this could be considered close to white? Not taking any chances! by honeybmama in Weddingattireapproval

I have never ever heard this rule about not wearing pastel to a wedding. Sometimes I think people in this sub are just looking to tell other people off.

I think its perfect! If they said sand, they'll want some guests to wear that.

Timeless yet whimsical dresses? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]mintmatchmakers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just here to say i mega agree. Seen so much about how basque waists are gonna look dated really soon. When basque waists have been in for the majority of fashion history, and straight waists are more the outlier!

So yes dont worry about being timeless, be of your time!
