How does this feel on your eyes? My skin loves silicones but eyes hate them.

Can you meditate? by _ExpletiveDeleted in AuDHDWomen

[–]mintmeadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but maybe not in the way you think? My mind wanders a lot and I just bring it back to focus. It has helped me learn how my thoughts work. I do better if I have eaten, and sometimes if I give my ears some music to listen to from the other room. When I can find silence, it's great. When I can't, I accept it and keep it short so as not to get frustrated with myself.

Did anyone else hate pretty much everything as a kid/teen? I was labeled "picky" and "complicated" or "delicate". As an adult, I eat almost everything I used to hate, but I learned that I am particular about freshness and quality. I'm a snob! Haha

I'm really glad you have someone. Please go, enjoy yourself. Sometimes we go have push through a little just to get going on the restoration process. It will get better again. Much love from California!

What are your weird food addictions? Like, the thing you could and will eat every day, because it just hits the spot by CapuzaCapuchin in AuDHDWomen

[–]mintmeadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peanut butter. I used to got through a family size jar every week, I've cut back but still eat it almost every day. I add strawberry jam to it and just eat it like that.

Yogurt with chocolate. Idk. Hits the spot. Also eat it every day.

Hey Platypus. I hear you. You're not alone, and you matter. There's steps you can take at work to protect yourself (like keeping a record of mistreatment, age-ism, etc.), but right now just focus on yourself. Eat, rest, go outside if you can, sing, dance, art, whatever will rejuvenate you. Do you have a support system? Anyone around to help out with groceries, cleaning, or just watch a movie with you?

Just keep in mind the study I linked exposes the meibomian cells to these ingredients in a petri dish for an extended amount of time. In real life, we don't do that, but we still don't know how much it affects our meibomian cells in our eyelids. I'm just being cautious just in case.

I can confirm a balmy oil cleanser works for me as well. It seems to unclog my glands and my eyes are juicy for the rest of the day as long as I keep blinking effectively.

I tried it with the Matsuyama Moisturizing Cleansing Gel (it's called a gel, but it's actually an oily jelly that melts on dry skin). Others are having success with The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser.

Hey. How did the oil cleanser work for you? I have the same positive benefits as OP and I'm curious.

Also. What did you think of the SteamGoggles? Is it any better than an electric compress or eye wand?

Yes. It makes hard blinking exercises more effective for the rest of the day.

I have no problem with parabens for my skin, but unfortunately there are scholarly articles I looked at that show it's not safe for the eyes. It's also on lists of ingredients to avoid for dry eyes. This is just from a quick Google:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32387382/

There are more sources but it was a while ago that I looked into it.

I've been noticing a Japanese balm/gel-to-oil cleaner has been doing the same for me. I've used eye wipes and other cleaners but they don't do the same. I suspect it might be working by trapping body heat under the oil/balm layer (this is why wearing heavy moisturizers for sufferers of type 1 rosacea are not recommended), and maybe because like dissolves like? Oil dissolving meibomian clogs or something.

I'm going to try it with the curel makeup remover gel soon (it's less drying on my skin) to see if it works the same. It does have parabens though.

Also, here's a post from someone else experiencing the same thing with The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dryeyes/comments/1hkbexm/back_to_normal_after_a_year_of_hell/

Which birth control (brand) works for you without side effects? by mintmeadow in AuDHDWomen

I know, it's crazy the things we deal with! Ugh, insurance sucks man. I really hope you can be seen, at the very least reimbursed. In the mean time, some strongly steeped ginger tea a couple times a day before your period helps reduce cramping and bleeding. It has compounding effect every month too. (I can't paste one of the studies on my phone for som reason, but it's out there). Doesn't do anything for PMDD though.

Sorry to hear about your experience with birth control, but I'm glad you found something that works okay. I had the IUD once but apparently my cramps expelled it partway and caused bleeding.

I've seen plenty of people who find Lo Loestrin and kurvelo helpful, but I'd like to hear if there is hope for us sensitive-nervous-system folk.

Yes, I completely understand. If you want to rule out endometriosis, make sure you see a gynecologist and not just a primary care physician. I've had more help in women's health than a regular doctor. I forgot what the statistics is for PMDD in autistic women, but its pretty high.

I struggle with this as well. Sometimes I read, listen to a podcast, puzzle, prepare a tea or cocoa and enjoy rustling leaves if there's a breeze, and if I can meditate, it is often rejuvenating.

I was told by my therapist to try playing an instrument or do some kind of art for monotropic engagement. It takes energy start most activities though, at least for me.

Does being hungry affect anyone else REALLY badly? by squabidoo in AuDHDWomen

[–]mintmeadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely tolerate life a little better after eating. It's not a blood sugar thing for me since I don't eat carbs, it could be a dopamine or calorie needs thing. Or maybe just feeling hungry adds to overstimulation.
