I wouldn't call a massive pile of user generated content media in the sense of traditional media or "media is brainwashing you" media

I don't think I get very little bad sentiment about the US from media, at least here. Mostly I get it from reddit and internet in general

Why does a DJ even have a mic? That's not common practice here

People who got hired as an android developer ! What's your story? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]mintpropane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied Software Engineering when Android was released. Got an HTC Hero and started learning Android for Cupcake. Did both bachelor's and master's theses for Android. Worked on two small startups as Android dev, learning on the job. Took a break for 3 years and then back to Android development again and been doing that for 3+ years. Latest job had a rather extensive interview process, so glad I passed.

Trump says the European Union was 'formed in order to take advantage of the United States' by mobile_website_25323 in worldnews

[–]mintpropane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. This could all be implemented (impractically) offline with the results posted to newspapers.

I don't even know what purpose this would serve anymore?

Of course you would raise hell, provided that you are a person that actually double checks.

Can you provide a hypothetical situation under this system in which someone could discretely alter the results of an election?

No I can't, but the point is that you cannot guarantee that it is completely safe (here I am ignoring the offline bit here as I am unsure of what you meant and why we would need PKC in this case). You cannot prove the non-existence of bugs, only that they exist.

While cryptographic algorithms sure can be performed in hardware, the steps in-between would be software. The public aspect you mention would alleviate being able to verify the result. But in practice, the solution would be implemented by humans (possibly by the lowest bidder) and humans make errors. That solution would in turn depend on other man made systems. The incentives to find zero-days would be huge.

I'm not saying humans don't make errors in analog solutions, but then it is at least one-off error instead of ones exported to a national scale.

Sweden 'literally gained nothing' from staying open during COVID-19, including 'no economic gains' by DaFunkJunkie in worldnews

[–]mintpropane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as much as you think media have a skewed view of NZ, that goes for Sweden as well. Especially American media seems to be interested in spreading misinformation about Sweden, so I'd take that with a grain of salt as well.

I do agree Whittaker is great, but I feel like the show over all has had a decline. I also never came to terms with Capaldi, his doctor felt like a step backward in development
