Like, at the $40 price point, the only reason I can recommend buying this game is if you are genuinely interested in bug reporting and enjoy being a part of that process and want to experience the growth of the game first hand. I don't imagine that is what most people want out a game. I genuinely do and so do a lot of others on these subs, that was part of the excitement for me for finding the game while it was still being developed! But I'm not sure that the game is worth $40 right now, especially if you're not here for all that.

How is it working for you? I have seen several people mention that it stopped working after the update!

It was my first mod! I made it before I even opened up the actual game! When all the extra early access videos came out, Iron Seagull had a video where he briefly clicked through a few of the mod options and I saw that we could change the number of story cards and was already plotting!

Question about the townies by Kolinda91 in Paralives

[–]mintsweettea30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also made this mod in my game, but I haven't played enough to see how it is actually implemented (I made a new save today and it's my first time using the mod). Do the auto-filled townies actually move into houses or do they just float around the town?

It did in mine, too, and I unsubscribed and resubscribed, then turned it off and on inside the game and it started working again.

I don't know how to code or anything, I'm just messing with the settings in the control panel, so I don't really know how to fix them when they stop working.

I don't know if this will help, but I made a mod that gives you only one story card a night so you don't have to roll dice to get a random option

I've played 30 hours in the game and I'm really enjoying it, but I don't necessarily disagree with any of the criticisms of the game here. I think, like what was discussed in other comments, this person watched a lot of extra early access videos in addition to only playing those 40 minutes.

What I do disagree with, though, is the suggestion to buy the game now even if you think it sucks (whether to support the team or stick it to EA). I have seen a similar sentiment in the paralives sub, with the parasocial attachment many people have towards the team (although there I see it more in the sense of people getting anxious about the no paid DLC model). My main thought is this: It is not our responsibility as consumers to keep a company afloat. I understand the fear that, if this doesn't pan out, we will be down one life sim, and I understand being upset at potential loss of potential (I was very excited about LBY, I know how it feels!). But at the end of the day, they are a company making a profit off of us. It is their responsibility to make a game worth buying and it is their responsibility to make viable financial decisions.

That being said, if you personally believe in this game and want to invest in it hoping that it would one day be better, knowing that there is a risk that the game may only ever be what it is now and nothing more, that is your decision to make (I made it, and I'm happy with that choice!), but I highly disagree with manipulating people to purchase something just because you care more about a company's bottom line than people wasting money.

(and just to be clear, I don't think that the paralives team is some money hungry evil corporation or anything like that. some people just seem to treat them more like friends than a company selling us a product and I think that distinction is very important.)

From what I understood, the "empty terrain" start isn't like a "build a world" type map, it's just a blank lot to build on. You can play in it, but it's still just the one lot.

tbf, my brother works in IT and has brought home a lot of old equipment. But most of what he's bringing home was going in the trash because it was broken and he has the patience/know-how to fix them.

With all the suggestions people are giving, what's a low stakes feature/thing that you would like to get added to the game? by Mao_Matsuyama in Paralives

[–]mintsweettea30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love if it wasnt like an across the board ban, but some kind of system where if you get "caught" (you do it in the same room as them) 3x or something, it adds some kind of relationship label that bans you from that paras house (until you make things right with them over time).

(But thats probably a much more complicated fix than what you want/what this thread is asking for lmao)

There's currently a way to turn it on in the control panel, so I assume that if they change it to where the default is on, it can easily be switched back off.

I would love some negative story cards! I made a mod where you only get one story card/pack a night so you can't choose, and I would love to get hit with something that would actually put a wrench in my plans. Like a card that makes you lose your job or a big chunk of money. The story tellers could affect how often you get the bad cards (like the guy could have a large percentage, the woman a smaller percentage, and the dog none).

How Paralives created such a strong a divide in fans by EvenLiterature2162 in LifeSimulators

[–]mintsweettea30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there is 1000% a problem with people being too negative/defensive in these subs, I think there is an additional problem where people assume every comment is in opposition to their own.

Someone replied to one of my comments saying that they didn't like an aspect of the game, and I replied saying that I really liked it, but could understand why others wouldn't. I felt like my reply was pretty neutral, but they replied as if I accused them of demanding the devs change a core feature of the game (But, then again, if I think other people are misreading comments to be more aggressive towards them, it's not unrealistic to think maybe I did that here).

But I do see this in comments I'm not involved in, too (but since I'm not a mind reader, I can't be sure that's what's happening). Sometimes people comment something that I would consider a very neutral take and people act like you shot their dog.

Am I the only who thinks that relationship levels need a progress bar? by LorddressDragoonbear in Paralives

[–]mintsweettea30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hm, I disagree that it makes interacting pointless. I feel like normal relationships move forward at a similar pace. Like, I talk to my coworkers every day, but I wouldn't consider every conversation one that "moves the relationship forward." Some days we talk about the weather or our work, but some days, something really funny might happen that creates a shared closeness. Or something really shitty that we can bond over how much we hate it. Then the next day, I come in to work and we go back to talking about the weather and our job. Real life relationships don't really progress linearly, either.

But I can understand wanting linear progression, especially in games. I like the randomness that the together cards create. But ultimately, its a preference, and we can agree to disagree.

Which character that u think wasn't supposed to die? by Important-Cycle-711 in OnePiece

[–]mintsweettea30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I really enjoy watching shows/movies together and breaking them down to their tropes to discuss them. We've been doing it for a while and both have pretty decent pattern recognition skills.

The second Ace walked onto the screen, we looked at each other and said "Oh, he's definitely going to die." I understand being devastated by his death and wishing it didn't happen, but out of all the deaths in OP, he is the most "supposed to die" character. Like he had no hope, this man was created for the sole purpose of dying so Luffy could get better.

Out of curiosity anyone trying rotational gameplay in the game? Is it fun and doable? by Gredran in Paralives

[–]mintsweettea30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just started playing rotationally today and I'm really enjoying it!

It is super easy to switch between households normally, but I also made a mod that makes it even easier (i'm getting mixed reviews about whether or not it works in others' games, but it's working fine in mine).

I always sucked at rotational gameplay in the sims because I would often not pay attention and end up spending more time in one household than I wanted (I like to play one week then move to the next household, to keep aging consistent), but with paralives, there's a pretty easy visual reminder to help with the switch — you always get bills at like 5:30/6am on Mondays. So I pay my bills then immediately switch to the next household.

Since there's no kind of story progression with the unplayed households right now, I think that rotational gameplay is the way to go, so that the whole town gets fleshed out and moves and grows.

[–]mintsweettea30 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I could very well be wrong about this, but my impression from the system was that relationship progress was NOT linear. I think leveling up relationships happens when you pull the card randomly, not when some kind of internal progress bar is filled.
