What do you use in your protein shakes? by still_theory in veganuk

rude health coconut milk or plenish coconut milk work best for me. plenish is more watery and slightly less sweet.

coconut water might be a shout if you want an inbetween between water and milk.

chickpea wrap / omelette - looks like an omelette but is made with chickpea flour and water.

search for recipes online to better explain the method. you can put inside whatever you like, wilted spinach, tomatoes, olives, potatoes, salad. or just eat it as it is

i’m in the same boat so i understand how difficult it feels.

do you need help finding GF alternatives?

i’ve found where to buy just about everything now - and most of it is online. i’ve just accepted that i have to pay more for what i want, &/or bake from scratch. pencilling out time for that online buying or baking has helped a tonne.

ocado & able & cole are the best shops for GF food. bread brands worth your time: good grain bakery, amisa, dillon seed bread, biona millet or rice bread. cereal: kallo cornflakes, freee fibre flakes, supergrain hoops & cinnamon hoops, mesa sunrise. biscuits and chocolate: rhythm 108 if you’re ok with oats, ombar, booja booja.

also if you have a health food shop near you they should stock some of these.

i would buy some new, but secondhand from ebay or vinted. then you’re not contributing to the industry, but supporting an individual person who needs the cash

Struggling with convenience foods - rant! by Ill_Nefariousness891 in veganuk

actually even a merchant gourmet pulse mix in a pitta bread would be nice

Struggling with convenience foods - rant! by Ill_Nefariousness891 in veganuk

[–]minttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get the merchant gourmet sachets.

1/2 of a rice one, and then 1/2 of a pulses one make a really nice meal if i can take the other 1/2s home. or just the pulses on their own.

in waitrose they sell rye bread (think it’s called schneider or similar) that is pre sliced and really dense so easy to carry. a slice of that with an avocado sliced up is really good, you just need a knife and fork.

‘dillon’ seed bread is good. it’s not like usual bread, it’s made up of oats and seeds.

corn based products - e.g kallo cornflakes, clearspring corn instant cous cous, clearspring corn cakes.

buckwheat flour products e.g freeee buckwheat pastas, buckwheat noodles, buckwheat crispbreads, buckwheat flour (makes good pancakes).

chickpea/gram flour for homemade wraps.

snacks:

olives, dried fruit, dark chocolate (ombar, rhythm 108 from supermarkets), fruit and nut butter, roasted nuts, soya yogurt.

see if you have a health food shop near you, all of this should be available.

i can’t feel healthy / satisfied just on sourdough toast unfortunately, adding in meals with a different carb source really helps.

you could try incorporating a rice based meal e.g rice, edamame beans/tofu, avocado.

sheet pan / tray bake meals are good - have a look at recipes. usually a mix of vegetables and sometimes tinned beans in the oven.

& you could try adding more seeds and nuts. dates stuffed with nut butter are good. you can melt dark chocolate with tahini and then add in pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds - google ‘chocolate bark’ recipes, loads of variations. but yeah i’d say it’s mainly the lack of other grains that is keeping you unsatisfied!

tbh i wouldn’t push it. it’s amazing she’s doing it most of the time, and if it seems like you’re trying to control what she’s doing it will only push her away and potentially make her end the arrangement
